The BGG.con library is a bit short on 18xx titles. However, 18xx addicts tend to bring some of their own. :-)

Please post a game here if you plan to bring it to the convention, or if you want someone else to bring it; I'll seed the list with 18xx titles from the BGG Library.

Please thumb the list if you think you want to play at least one 18xx title during the convention.

Once enough people thumb this list I'll be asking the admins for an official home for the 18xx games at BGG.con; if that doesn't work we'll just hijack a side room like we have for the past few years.

We have a home! The Carter and Glasscock rooms are reserved for "quiet games" -- I've chosen the Glasscock room as the 18xx hub for this year. If you are looking for other 18xx players come to the Glasscock room, but if your game will be loud and talkative, you may want to take it somewhere else. (I don't know what the dividing line between "quiet" and "non-quiet" will be.)

(And yes, I know -- 18xx players, the traditional tasteless jokes about the size and shape of our privates, a room named "Glasscock"... I'll probably be lynched. It'll be worth it.)

Please thumb an entry if it is a game that you are interested in playing. (Do not comment just to say you want to play in general -- that will clutter up the list. However, do feel free to schedule specific games at specific times.)

Please add a "me too" comment if you plan to bring a second copy.

Feel free to say things like "I will bring whichever two of my entries get the most thumbs" or come up with other creative and constructive ways to sidetrack this Geeklist. :-)

Want some history?

18xx at BGG.con 2010
18xx at BGG CON 2010 (please post your experiences)

For those looking to play their first-ever 18xx game at BGG.con:

Welcome! We would love to teach you!

You might find that you get a bit more out of the experience if, ahead of time, you download a copy of Rails and play a game or two of 1889 or 1830 or 18AL against a few of your imaginary friends. (1889 with a total of three or four seats; 1830 with any number from 3 to 5.)

I'll bring this one. I don't know if I'll be able to bring poker chips - they're a major hassle to carry on board a plane.

Date and time: Saturday 9 AM
Duration: Approximately 5 hours
Location: Glasscock room
I will provide a copy of the game. I'll probably have my poker chips there as well. I am willing to teach the game as well; if there's interest in that, I can start setting up around 8:30.

Players:
1. Bill Gallagher (Yuglooc)
2. Matt Campbell (kirkusmaximus)
3. Christopher Rao (topherr)
4.
5.
6.

I'll have this set up Saturday morning regardless - and hope I get enough interest to make this a go.

This is a good game for teaching newcomers to 18xx; it is very similar to 1830 but has a lot of the sharp edges rounded off.

The BGG library does not have a copy; last year at least 2 people brought it.

I will bring this game and will teach/play it with up to 3 others. I will also bring a few other titles that others aren't bringing. I have about 40 to pick from. There is some small chance I will bring 18NAC if it is ready AND I can get 3+ commitments to it. It rivals 1817 in play time at 8-10 hours.

Poker Chips.

Who's bringing them?

Please note: many mid-price poker chips have metal slugs in the middle of each chip, which *will* get your carry-on luggage opened up by airport security (and probably your checked bags, too.)

Note:

The BGG library will have sets of poker chips available to be checked out, though I don't know if they will be sufficient for 18xx.
