We've just started shipping the updated rulebook and have been getting some great feedback:

Okay, I do believe I have this version of the rules book, and from what I can tell it is soooooo much better than the first one. I figured out the game with ease. It was shorter than I expected but clear as well. The other "half" of the book is an example of play for each part that is read above it. The other end half of the book is the buildings and what they do, and how to use them. Overall, I believe it is a very approachable game with the rulebook I received. Easily taught to me from the rules, and easy taught to others with just a few minutes (and no meeples to make towers out of when reciting rules). The only part that will take time is everyone understanding the buildings. But as for the mechanics of the base game - very easily grasped with the new book as written.
Last note: Get it, it is not only intriguing but tremendously fun!

Mostly just a reflow, and removing all the ugly [Exception : Telescope] stuff from the core rules.

We built the game so that you didn't really need to know how the special function cards work for the first few moves, and then wrote the rules to make you look them up anyway... go figure.

Errr... start with a quick, silly foodfight game, add two lame excuses, and then throw in a rules update:

www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/97269

Unfortunately, what you get is a game which can be taught fine face to face by the designer but still collapses under blind testing.

It's now in its second post-publication rewrite and while still a little complex it's finally passing blind tests--but it's going to be a year or two before I blurr the lines again by publishing one of my own game designs.

Reflowed and smoothed out a few glitches with the ending.

The real issue with Sneeze was not having people learn it from the rules, but the sudden realization that introducing seven different event cards (with reading on them) actually might not have been the smartest way to sneak strategy into a game we were targeting at 6 year olds.

We fixed it by creating a 'training game' where the cards are effectively tokens instead.

Play Testers Wanted!

Another thing we're going to be doing at Major Game Day on Saturday is trying out a few of the games we're looking at for our next print run.

It's now almost two years since Carl and I started working on Cambridge Games Factory, and nine months since we actually launched at the Unity Games Convention that didn't happen back last year.

One thing we discovered in that time is that planning to 'fine tune' the rulebooks of four different games in the four weeks between submitting final artwork and getting back 330,000 playing cards and 25,000 poker chips is not necessarily a winning strategy, especially if one of your games is so complex that you're not entirely convinced that it's even possible to learn it from the rules...

This time around we're hoping to work with external playtesters from much earlier in the process.

Our plan is to print the games on card stock--we'd be looking for you to do the cutting out--and we'll also provide clear card sleeves to help keep them shuffleable, etc. We'd ask you to try out the game and give us your honest feedback. No experience necessary--we'd just like to be able to get input from people who enjoy playing games and haven't been deeply involved in the game design & development process.

If you're interested please join our playtest group--it's going to be a month or so before we're ready to start sending stuff out but we'd love to start getting some sign ups in the interim.
