Current Preorders: 13

First announced: September 2012

Current Status: Quite a way to go

Preorder Price (List Price): $40 ($50)

Number of Players: 3-6

Designer: Tom Russell

Game Information: In Prepotent, players breed, bet on, and race horses. Prepotent blends the short term tactical thinking found in its streamlined racing mechanisms with the long term strategy of horse breeding. Additional intrigue is found in the betting mechanisms.

Each player has two horses: one stallion and one mare. Players must decide if they want to breed a new stallion or new mare; with a new mare, desirable traits will last longer, but with a superior stallion, races are more likely to be won in the immediate future.
Each horse has a set of traits, and when a new horse is bred, the most desirable traits are what players strive for. Parent horses that are genetically compatible can offer gene traits superior to unmatched mates. Each of these traits represents an action the horse is required to take during the course of the race.
Players acquire money by setting stud fees that other players must pay to breed with their stallions, winning bets on races, and having their own horse place well in races. The player with the most money at the end of the game wins.

First announced: September 2012

Current Status: Not even close

Preorder Price (List Price): $60 ($70)

Number of Players: 2

Designer: Patrick Stevens

Game Information: Frozen Death is our representation of the Winter War which depicts the Finnish struggle against Soviet expansionism in 1939. A block styled war game that adds fog-of-war elements to the already brutal climatic elements of the hell on earth that was the Winter War. Finnish resolve was exemplified by the term "sisu" roughly translated as "guts" and the "motti" (chopping wood to kindling) tactics of their elite ski battalions "sissi". Altogether this was a very embarrassing episode for the Soviets from which they only were able to negotiate a victory of sorts because of their over overwhelming preponderance in men and especially equipment.
