The first surprise packages were offered on the 2011 BGG Supporter Badge Drive / Rummage Sale:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/74857/item/1958356#ite...

I gave two of them away. The generous winners started to post little photo essays which have become (the best, IMHO) part of these packages.

I had more extra gaming goodness so I decided to start handing out surprise packages in the G4GG lotteries. I enjoy doing this and the recipients have been kind enough to continue the photo essays about what they got. Here are the packages that I sent out so far.

I will continue to update this geeklist to keep a record of all the packages. I confess that I have started to pick up little items here and there to have enough surprise supplies to keep this tradition going.

Thank you to everyone who joined in (with thumbs and ). Also, a special thank you for all the photo essays. They are the posts that make me happiest on BGG. I am like a little girl on Christmas to see what clever description BGGers come up with.

I custom assembled it after reading almost everything about him on BGG:

This is what it looked like - a large and very heavy envelope. My excitement was rising. And so was my daughter (2.5), who couldn't be occupied otherwise while I tried to take the photos... I can understand, as Cate packed lots of stuff for my daughters.

The first thing I pulled out was a game, Bananagrams. I haven't tried it, but being a teacher for German as a second language, I am always interested in word games.

Could I have that camera back, please? Please?

As a regular in these lotteries, I think I remember that these bags are originally from some whiskey or something like that. Well, I don't drink whiskey. But I play and design games. So dice (and another spin4it) are always welcome.

A little puzzle. My (older) daughter hasn't tried yet.

Yes, of course you can help me take a photo of those cute rubber bands. But could you take your finger off the lens?

Thanks, that's much better. I had seen these before, but always animal-shaped. These are musical instruments. Cool!

Here's a book for you. Why don't you look at that while I take the photos?

Stickers! If you don't have kids, you have no idea how many stickers they can use in five minutes... can't have enough of them!

Another thing you can't have enough of: Cameras.

Two cute little handmade animals.

A deck of cards. However, while I ride my bicycle a lot, I am not sure how to play cards while I do...

(Note From Cate: These are supercool designer playing cards:

More stuff for the designer in me. I am particularly happy about the printable playing card sheets - never knew these existed. My current design is using many, many cards, but that is done - I am sure I will be able to put these to good use. Chips and blank dice are also useful tools, and the chips have a nice medium size that I didn't have yet.

And, at last, a postcard from Cate.

What can I say? This was a huge bunch of cool things for the whole family. Well done, Cate, I am really grateful for this!

I'm the slacker that was late in posting pictures from Cate's September Surprise Package. I have a lame excuse about a high priority project at work - I wish I would have done this sooner because I could have used the "pick-me-up" of going through the package.

Well, better late than never, here's my package from Cate:

It all starts with what looks like an envelope but is actually a postal approved bag of holding.

Next there are these minifigs, dice and a dicebag. RPG'ers can never have too many of these. Also in the dice bag is this really cool "first player" spinner. This awesome thing spins forever.

Next is a book from someone we're all familiar with and a copy of Spielbox which is great. I love the magazine but never want to pay for a copy

Then we have an assortment of items. I believe that's a evil puzzle of time wasting, a package of "Super Awesome" trading cards (I'm afraid to open these), a Munchkin bookmark and a neat dice game called Weilong. This will make a great filler game for my group - they love rolling dice.

These are some nifty toys for my granddaughter.

And finally 2 items from my wishlist. Verräter looks like a fun card game. Then there is 6 nimmt!. I don't know how many times I said "holy crap" when that came out of the bag. I searched for over a year for a copy of this and I can't believe Cate put a copy in the surprise package.

Thank you very much Cate. I feel really privileged to get a surprise package from you. You really put a lot of thought into these packages which makes them extra special to receive.

My package arrived a few days ago (sorry about the delay getting this up btw whistle ) so I raced up to my room and placed it on the bed, giggling like a schoolgirl.

Checking over my shoulder to make sure nobody was around (it's mine! all mine!) I ripped it open.

Unfortunately, whilst I was trying to be quiet, I aroused the interest of one of the darker denizens of my abode.

Knowing that time was now short (and fearing for my life) I quickly pulled item after item out of the package and took a few photos.

A groovy little ball and cup game.

A sci-fi movie I actually haven't seen! (gasp! horror!)

A pack of heart stickers my daughter will love and a number puzzle (N.B. - this will be the last time it shall be seen in its pristine state. I am notoriously bad at getting these things back to the start.

3 packs of 'Army men'. These will be great to put into a steampunk adventure. Plus some wheat tokens.

A new game!
"Oh, something new for the kids to beat you at."
My (much) better half had snuck up behind me. I was hoping to hide my spoils from her, as she has a nasty habit of stealing my dice for her collection. shake Which leads me to...

A really nice dice bag (pirates!) filled with -

A spinner. Poker dice. A love heart stamp. Player pawns. 3 Cancer Sucks bracelets. A clicker and a full set of polyhedral dice.

After Puss had tested them for accuracy, they were scooped up (bag and all!) and whisked away. This is the last time I would see them

All in all, a great haul! Thanks for sending this Cate!

Even the Ginger Ninja approves.

Wow!

I just got the Cate's surprise package from last month:
A tiny surprise box of awesome

My sons and I excitedly unpacked the small but heavy package, watching treasure after treasure appear like clowns from a tiny car.

Here is a shot of everything included:

If you would like to see and hear more about each item, read on:

The first thing we pulled out was this very cool (homemade?) dice bag with dogs playing poker and dice beads on the drawstring. It's awesome.

The dice bag was full of goodies as well:

Some groovy space men figures that my son and I will enjoy painting,

Poker dice,

Cool wooden trains, my youngest was all over these,

First player spinner, we will really put this to good use,

Some of those shapey rubber bands,

And what would a dice bag be without dice? My favorite is the watermelon 12 sider.

There was still more in the package though!

Next we found some card sleeves, good idea.

Some stickers, my youngest loves these:

Gumby and Pokey, awesome!

A groovy dice cup:

Something was in the dice cup, and after unwrapping it we found a cute little bumper car guy:

Also there was a kerchief from Privateer Press (makers of the wonderful Monsterpocalypse)

and a funny postcard

And there was still more in there. Not one, but two games from my wish list!

Monopoly Deal

Fairy Tale

Last but not least, Terry Pratchett Graphic Novel! I love all things Pratchett, but this is one that was missing from my collection. Well done Cate!

We had a fantastic time unpacking this package and will have hours of fun with it's contents. Thanks so much Cate for putting together an interesting and personalized prize.

If you are thinking about bidding on her next package, do it now. If you already bid, bid more!

Thank you Cate ~ I love it!!! meeple

I won Cate's surprise package from February's G4GG. It was my first time winning any G4GG, and since I have no idea what was in the package, I was "extra" excited about it!

The package was bigger than I anticipated. It made some noise when I shook it, which was exciting. It's like Christmas morning...in March! There were a lot of stuff in this package...

Take 1. Some sparkle heart stickers, Tichu, and a deck of poker cards! I love stickers, and Tichu was actually on my wishlist. Tichu was the German tin box edition. All the rules were in German...good thing the cards weren't shake (That's me laughing and shaking my head @ my own jokes...). I'm also a big fan of playing with just regular cards. My favorites are Chinese Poker (a.k.a. Big Two) and Egyptian Rat Screw (a.k.a. Earth).

Take 2. A dice/game bag, a game-in-a-box game, two sets of wooden tokens, and a bag of airplanes!

Here's a closer look at the game that came in the box. It's titled "Dschunke: Das Legespiel" (or Junks - The Tile Placement Game). It appeared to be a homemade game. The tiles you see here are actually Jenga pieces ~ it's like a two-in-one game! How awesome is that!? It did come with a small rulebook. I was actually intrigued by how it was folded/constructed. There were two links printed on the rulebook, I'm posting it here for those of you who are interested.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/16497/rat-hot
http://spiele-aus-timbuktu.de/

I have to say this is my favorite thing in the package. I really love it. I admire the craftsmanship and love the colors. And so, I was really, really sad when I realized...

The poor thing was broken. cry It was suppose to be a wood carving + pen. The pen writes pretty well actually. I'm really sad...but I'm also glad that the pen broke above the ink reservoir so it didn't spill. In honor of this beloved pen, I made the following image.

We may never find out what really happened...

And there were some chocolate to help ease the pain

I almost forgot that there were stuff in the bag! A sand timer (a little short of 2 minutes, but shhhhhh, don't tell the other gamers), two rubber stamps, some dice, a crazy monkey finger puppet (I think), a bag of crystals (reminded me of Mage Knight), and some more cool dice (I really want to find a game that uses these dice, they look awesome), and a spin-4-it (I really wanted one, too. This was one of the reasons I bid for the package).

Here is a closer look at the rubber stamps. TTR anyone?

Remember I told you about the crazy monkey?

Thanks again Cate. I really enjoyed going through the package and I loved the surprises! meeple

Please look very closely at those "Regular Playing Cards." I bought them off of Kickstarter and they are amazing works of art.

The package arrived yesterday! I saw it as we were heading out to dinner so I put it in the car and looked forward to getting back home.

Apologies for the pictures; they were taken with an iPhone against an extremely reflective table.

It's pretty big! I couldn't wait to tear it open. And oh, the things that awaited me inside.

Yeah. Yeah. To run down the list:

A set of poker dice.

Three "Cancer sucks!" bracelets.

Four bags of gold plastic army men (and women, I believe).

A bag of wooden lightening tokens.

Chronicle. I looked over the rules and this seems like a perfect fit for my gaming group (which unfortunately isn't meeting tonight like usual).

An issue of Spielbox. I've never read it before but I flipped through last night and it looks like there's a lot of interesting stuff inside (including a small game about the fall of Rome).

This is the coolest thing in my opinion. A dice bag made out of a rabbit pelt. I didn't have a dice bag, but I do now! Cate says she got it from an Ojibwa hunter at a Native American festival. It was wrapped in a plastic bag that looked like it had some red liquid inside it at one point, so my first thought was "...did she send me a dead animal?" I don't know where the liquid came from as it wasn't anywhere on the bag itself: it's in great shape! Now I need to find an excuse to roll some dice.

At first I thought this was a neat little toy gun. Then I saw the picture of a fly on the side and realized it was the greatest fly swatter of all time.

I'm speechless at how awesome this stuff is. Cate's generosity is overwhelming, and I pretty much have to offer something up in next year's Supporter Drive, right? Now I need to think up a game involving lightning and army men.

My two year old was already really late for bed, but he likes dice so I put the poker dice into the dice bag and let him take a few out and roll them.

Thank you, Cate! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Here, at long last, are the promised photos. I have been working 15-18 hour days for the last couple of weeks (for a demo on Friday). I spent most of yesterday asleep, and am still tired. But at least I can get around to this.

1: The panoramic view:

One of my (er, several) busts of Schubert is modeling an 'Ichiro' hat. I've spent lots of time in the States (one year I bought so many tickets during the regular season to watch the Braves (my club) at the Phillies (the club nearest to where I was living) that I was offered post season tickets. I snapped them up - they were playing the Braves, after all. Going to a post season match in the regalia of the opposition is a slightly surreal experience. Fortunately, I went with a good friend who was in his Phillies stuff, which helped mute some of the nastiness at the end of the match (the Braves had just hammered them)). I love baseball almost as much as cricket. So I appreciate class when I see it (well, as long as it is not playing for the Yankees anyway). The hat came with a bonus bountiful supply of cat hairs .

The scarf is to make me feel hugged, which it does. Now is a good time to be a Schubert nut (well, frankly, every day is a good day to be a Schubert nut), as the good old Beeb are running a Schubert marathon: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-16990281. Another completion by my friend Brain Newbould is an event to relish (Brian and I have been on the committee of The Schubert Institute UK for many years). This is a radio event, so if the BBC's lighting is as good as the stress ball thoughtfully provided by Cate, we will not be left in the dark.

Cate supplied an on-topic dice bag, made from material inscribed with the names of famous composers. Unfortunately, she must have been Brahms and Liszt when she wrote her Chopin Liszt, as there is one famous name conspicuous by his absence. He is still in my judgement (not that I have any bias whatsoever, here) under appreciated. Still the greatest song writer who ever lived, he died at just 31 (at the age when he finished his last symphony, Beethoven had written, er, zero). The burst of creativity in his final year is just incredible - if you have never listened to his string quintet (perhaps the greatest chamber work ever written by anybody), do so, and die happy.

The second picture shows a closeup of the contents of the bag. A collection of dice (as ever) a Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra badge, and a spin 4 it, pointing at lucky me. She also included a couple of Cancer Sucks bracelets. Which indeed it does. She did not know this, but watching my father waste away from pancreatic cancer, knowing that there was nothing that anybody could do, was the worst period of my life. He died on a Christmas eve, still in his 60s, and I have not been able to really enjoy a Christmas since.

And then there was games stuff. This was a 'gaming surprise package' after all. Firstly, a big box of trains! I am a train gamer (once upon a time I was very good indeed at Railway Rivals, which was a staple of the postal games hobby on this side of the pond). And finally Friday. Now that the kids have all flown the nest, I do end up playing solo games quite a lot (my wife was never really a gamer, though she has played a lot to humour me). Friday was top of my wants list for that reason. For reasons that should be obvious, I have not had time to play this. I promise that I will make every effort to get this to the table next ... Thursday.

Thank you for the photo essay!

I watched my father waste away from cancer as well.

Enjoy Friday! It is my favorite solo games.

Sorry about the cat hair. My two cats sit on everything! I am too much of a crazy cat lady to deny them anything.

Also, the scarf was hand knit by my mother. She is a knitting genius. When she wanted to learn something new about knitting (about 10 years ago), she had to visit Scotland and other parts of Europe.

I have a package!

I hadn't expected it so soon, so along with another package I got today (from my sweetie, a 360 controller I can use with my laptop to play games on Steam), I was really confused! I couldn't figure out where either of these boxes came from. When I finally found Cate's name on one box, I nearly flipped out!

Right away I searched for Firefly stuff! The trading cards she included are awesome! I have flipped through them twice already. And the little Jayne hat key chain? Perfect! Especially as my best friend is knitting me a Jayne hat so I can walk down the street and let everybody know I ain't afraid o' nothin'! And the poker dice? Too cute! I love dice, I love poker, what a great combination. I can fit them easily into my purse or laptop bag, too, and have something non-electronic to do during long waits at our many doctor and orthodontist appointments.

I think Cate has figured something out about me - I hate cancer. It has hurt too many people, and the kids and I will proudly wear these "Cancer Sucks" bracelets. I have one I purchased from a fundraiser that is a mix of all the cancer ribbon colors and one solely for breast cancer and they will all go nicely together.

An extra timer! Awesome! I use these for homeschooling, games, and to make sure the kids brush their teeth long enough. Useful and fun! Thank you!

Soap leaves - how cute! Is this a hint? I can't wait to try them out! I wish I hadn't already showered today or else I would now.

I love the postcard and the stress ball, too. It's even my favorite color. And the card...well...yeah! Mother Teresa is already one of my idols, I wish I could be as selfless and giving as she, and she had a great sense of humor, something else I admire. This quote is one of my favorites, and now I can hang it up and laugh at myself and my problems more often! But the stress ball, is that another hint?

Dong Ma! You're part of my crew... *sighs happily* I love me some Firefly, and I've already gone through the card game and answered every single card! I love it! I took a picture of it next to the trading cards because, well, I love those cards!

This is incredible... First, how did you know I love ladybugs, Cate? Normally I eschew things that are too feminine (I'm a baseball loving, firework exploding, fishing and camping and action/adventure movie and video game tomboy and proud of it!), but bugs are a weakness. I blame it on the whole preschool and early elementary school teaching thing. That's it exactly, no too-disgusting femininity here except when I have to. *giggles*

But wait...more soap. A cute little lamb! Lambs are another weakness! I still blame it on the teacher thing, plus my kids used to love me to sing Mary Had a Little Lamb to them, but again I have to wonder... More soap? And that's (along with lots of lotions) what my best friend got me for my birthday, too? Hmmmmm...do I really stink from Missouri all the way to Wisconsin? I'm going to hope you're just with my friend who claimed it wasn't the stench, it was just that she knows how stressed I am and how much I need some good, long relaxing baths and massages with yummy-smelling lotions. *giggles*

But the kicker... Ticket to Ride USA 1910 expansion?!?!?! I've been teetering on getting this for myself for months now, and every single time I almost do, I decide to buy something for somebody else instead! I've wanted it so bad, but spending that much money on myself? I just couldn't do it! I am so excited, and I'm so tempted to cancel school for the rest of the day and play TtR with the kids all afternoon!

Cate, when I said you were awesome, I wasn't lying. You have made my day big time! Thank you soooooooooo much! *big hugs*

Hi Cate!

Received the thick and heavy package on Saturday and opened it tonight:

First I carefully removed the card from the packaging:

Then I ripped open the top of the package and peered inside:
surprise wow

First thing out: Being Erica, third season dvd set. Yeah! Given the heads up that this was coming, I started watching season one last night and am currently on episode 6. Awesome show! Thank you so much for the recommendation and the dvds.

Next out, two card games:

Famiglia: a 2 player game that will be great for my husband and I. I mostly play games with just my husband, so this is perfect!
Fzzzt!: "A futuristic robot auction game with some dodgy mechanics". Cool theme and it scales from 2 to 4. Looks like it will do well with the group we play Munchkin and Fluxx with. Thanks!

Some cool looking miniatures:

Had to take another picture of the inside of the package as there was still tons of stuff:

Next item up, a heart shaped box that rattled:

With a Cancer Sucks (yes, yes it does) band around it:

Inside, lots of very cool looking dice. Shiny!

Also, a bug clicker (to annoy the cats), a purple pawn and a harley-davidson museum poker chip (cool, been playing poker recently).

Oooo, a tiger! Nice!

Wow, an audio book: Ready Player One. I haven't read it, but sounds right up my alley. Plus Wil Wheaton reads it!

Cool! Firefly trading cards. One of my favorite shows (why did they have to cancel it...). Thanks!

More trading cards, a wooden toy and a cute bookmark

Last item out is my favorite! Now I get the card! The cat, gloves and socks are very awesome and perfect! Thank you so much!! I had to run down and show my husband right away

Everything is so perfect for me. Very generous! Thank you again!

This is the long-lost mystery entry! I created this package for:

http://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/8595/another-contest-cat-b...

The winner was:

N/A

He won it on Apr 2, 2012. I don't think he knew about the photo essay tradition so here I go with the pictures I took before sending it off.

Since this package has a glass item, I put it in a box.

Here is the group shot. Believe it or not, it took a little fiddling to get everything in that small box. The yellow 3 minute egg timer and the army men did not (for some reason) get their own photos.

Since this was a kitty-themed prize package (from my Cat In A Box Blog), I had to include the greatest kitty toy of all time - the laser pointer! This one only looks like a mouse: Unfortunately, the dot is not moused shaped.

A copy of Martian Dice was included.

See there are many great dice in this game for the kitties to play with.

A small bottle from the Crazy Cat Lady Dairy. Is cat milk for or from cats?

All of my packages must have dice. No exceptions!

One package of the supercool playing cards.

This is what the face cards look like.

Last but not least, the rabbit fur balls. My cat Zoey LOVES these. She bring a different one to be every night. When I was away for a week, I cam home to over two dozen on the floor. I buy them in bulk from eBay.

Sam came wandering in while I was opening it and he said, "Ooh, Douglas Adams." We love to listen to audiobooks together in the car. This will be great!

The miniature barrels will be fun to paint. I have been painting gaming minis on commission lately. I will do these for Sam. I'm sure he'll find a way to incorporate them into his Castles & Crusades game.

The blue embroidered pouch is nicely shaped so that it's easy to get at what's inside. Lots of fun dice and things tucked inside the bags. The metallic petri-style dishes are great. I have binder clips that are the same metallic colors that I love. The red d10 will be my lucky Magnate die.

That in itself would have been plenty, indeed. But Cate outdid herself with games off of my wishlist, Zooloretto and History's Mysteries. I am super excited about both of those.

There was also a delicate vase that would be perfect for bamboo, and a very sturdy dice cup with cheerful red felt inside. Last but not least, there was a game called Weilong that looks very interesting. I will read through the included rules and give it a try.

Thank you so much Cate for your continuous generosity and warmness of spirit. You make BGG a great place to be.

I received this wonderful Nov 2012 G4GG surprise package from Cate. Yah!! Sorry it's taken some time to post this up. I took the video as soon as the package arrived, but due to the wedding I've been so run off my feet I'm slowly catching up on video posts and other posts

Thank you Cate!!

Look at all the amazing eye candy!

Cate customizes the packages for each winner and since I have a cat Yah!! This is hilarious. Love it!

Oooh this is something I really want The spinner. Thank you Cate!

Cate really put a lot of thought into this package. She sent me an expansion for one of my favourite games!

This package was a lot bigger than I expected! After I would take out one item, another appeared in it's place. It's like a magical gift bag

Another game on my wishlist!

and more goodies! These must be for Nemo

How did she fit everything into one postal pack?

I made a little unboxing/unpacking video Nemo makes many appearances during the video. Please excuse the blurry-ness, I was so focused on the package that I wasn't looking through the view finder of my really old digital camera Hopefully next year I'll buy a proper camera for filming these videos. Please enjoy!

Thank you Cate for all your generosity, and for sharing your love of this hobby to other gamers around the world. It always brings a huge smile to my face to see people winning your packages, and the photos they post up

Mewwy Christmas Cate! and everyone else!

So I was the lucky recipient of the surprise package from the G4GG December 2012. I'm still in awe that I won, let alone the fact I was going to be receiving one of Cate's famous surprise gaming package!

Cate informed me this wonderful parcel was left in the possession of the United States Postal Service on January 5th, 2013. After six nail-biting days, a lovely package was waiting for me at home on January 11th.

The box!

Oh man, a BOX! All the others I've seen here were envelopes. Either I'm special, or there are springing snakes inside ready to burst out and scare the crap out of me.

My fear of practical joke snakes wasn't enough to keep me from opening this thing. Time to get my keys and cut through the tape to open her up.

Bubble wrap!

So I have bubble wrap to start! Love that stuff. Ok seriously though, let us start to dive in.

Crown royal bag

Excellent! A full size Crown Royal bag! I did not have any of these. IT will definitely come in handy with some of the tile drawing games I Have.

Up next...

Small with gaming stuff

A smaller, black Crown Royal bag. It was filled with all those dice AND the first-player spinner! I have been searching for one of those for a long, long time. So glad Cate sent one!

A bag filled with what looks like an Egyptian army. Small plastic figures, perfect for a little kid, of which one is on its way for my wife and I! Yes, we will wait till they are older than 3 to play with these

The next thing I find...

Red light stick

A Glow RED flashlight, flasher, whistle combo. A good thing to have while out walking or hiking, even biking. This is going to go in my car's emergency kit pronto.

Backflip penguin

There was a wind-up back flipping penguin next. This thing scares the cat and will be a great deterrent for him to howl at us when hungry. Also it will (hopefully) provide a wonderful distraction and laughter for the upcoming baby.

Related to this item was

Little frog monster?

This stress ball looking item. Let's see what happens when squeezed.

POP!

Its eyes pop out! To my cubicle, on the double with this one. I will need it.

Something super awesome was up next, though.

Super awesome!

Some Super Awesome! trading cards. I had never heard of these before. But they are indeed Super Awesome.

Here are two I received. I figured they apply to most people here as indeed being Super Awesome!

Examples

There was also this wonderful bracelet

Cancer does indeed suck. My grandmother died in 1992 from lung cancer after YEARS of smoking. Thus why I never touched the stuff. For the record, I was 5 at that time.

OK so I bet you are saying "OK Steve, you showed us all this, but this package is from THE Cate. There HAS to be something in there that is a game or more game related."

Well, you would be right. I was intentionally saving all that for last!

First up are these two

Cards!

Two little card games that my gaming group should enjoy indeed. We have people coming tonight, so maybe?

Next up

Scotland!

Ah Lords of Scotland! I have played this before, but didn't own a copy. Now I do! Time to play it again.

FFG Tokens

Time to put these to some PnP goodness! Now I just need to decide what game to make with them. Or maybe I can find a game with cheap cardboard tokens and replace them. Either way, these are gold.

Now the BIG item. I was super surprised here.

OMG

HOLY CARP! OMG OMG OMG. I have been wanting this one for a long time! Wow! Punched and bagged with plenty of score sheets left. Now to see if my wife would enjoy farming

Thanks Cate! You as well. This is AWESOME stuff.

If you haven't bid on one of Cate's surprise packages, go do it now! You will definitely not be disappointed.

What I got from Cate

Well, my goodness! Cate did geekmail me a few questions, after which I was sure she would simply decide that I was too difficult to buy for. But she did marvelously!

She wrote:

Quote:
... a tiny little teenie-weenie gaming surprise package...

So I was expecting something in a USPS small flat-rate priority box (22cm x 14cm x 4cm for those of you outside the USA). Instead, I got what I consider a hefty package (yes, that's a one-foot/30 cm ruler):

So, I carefully open it up and pull out things as I see them.

First we have two Carcassonne, items, one of which is on my wantlist!

Cool, thanks! And I can also use the Phantom - one of the few Carc expansions I approve of.

Next out of the bag, another game from my wantlist, with some game tokens (always useful):

Excellent!

The next draw brings out something I didn't know existed: a mini Crown Royal Bag! Too cute! Loaded with dice, as you can see, and a Spin-4-It, along with a full size Crown Royal bag, all useful stuff:

It's a purple and green kind of package, I'm thinking. But then out comes yet another game from my wantlist! That red and yellow look predominant, but sure enough, there are purple and green, also. I had played a prototype of this game and enjoyed it very much - this is the first time I've seen it since it's been published. Thanks! (Using the BGG stock photo since mine came out poorly.)

There's still more in this tiny little teenie-weenie gaming surprise package. Next out is a novel I know nothing about, but I'll take that as a recommendation, thanks!

Next is an issue of Spielbox, which seems to contain a Martin Wallace game, cool. You may notice I have placed a pack of Super Awesome Trading Cards on the cover. This, which also came in the package, is something I've never heard of but will open in the presence of a friend who seeks out and thoroughly enjoys such things.

Still not done! A print-n-play copy of String Railway! I didn't even know this game came in print-n-play. Many thanks, this is very enjoyable filler game I'd played and will happily play again:

And finally a postcard and the main ingredients for yet another game, Weilong. It's not a game I've heard of, but I see that the rules can be found here on BGG and the only other components needed are dice, which I have, so thanks yet again!

So, wow, thanks, Cate! Teenie-weenie isn't how I'd describe it, but color me very happy with this package!

This package was sent by Cate in February 2013. This was sent in-lieu of a Surprise Package listing in Feb '13 - Cate was extremely generous enough to reward me for my persistance and support of G4GG/Rummage-o-rama!

A direct link to the comment won't work, but you can read the comments on this Geeklist item to see the conversation

Great Old Ones! The package arrived today! I was so shocked to come home from work and see a wonderfully thick yellow postal pack waiting from me... I was sure this wasn't going to arrive for a few more weeks at least! Thank you USPS!!! I chose the "What's In The Bag" game for the geeklist item as I've decided to make this post as I discover the contents, figured it'd be more fun that way and capture a little more of my excitement

I couldn't believe not only how big the package was, but also how thick it was! This is the large yellow postage bag in comparison to the 2011 FFG Small Box version of Hey, That's My Fish!.

Ooohhh and now to open up the well-travelled yellow envelope of game geekery excitement! *hears slight rattling turning over the package*

Hmmm, so Cate seems to be a master tape user, so I'll go retrieve some scissors to get into this...

Ooohhhh, I love the sight of ziplock bags! Hard to decipher anything else at the moment, the suspense is killing me so lets see what's in here!

Wow! Some really cute mini miniatures of knights, dwarves, soldiers and other fantasy-esque figures. They're about half size of your average Games Workshop miniture and have 28 in total. I've been meaning to get to writing a new game involving miniatures - in the meantime I think I'll use these to play a scaled down version of Song of Blades and Heroes. Awesome!

Removing the ziplock bag I saw a very familiar logo from one of my favourite (curse me if you will) game companies...

OH MY! I LOVE GREEN! LIKE, LOVE GREEN! If the option is there, this is the colour I always prefer playing. These will probably get used with everything I play. Even if tokens aren't necessary. Such a beautiful pattern through the tokens. THANK YOU CATE!

I would be happy enough to receive these two items alone, but the package is still very much bulging and I've barely touched the surface... Onward we go...

Aww cute! A mini Crown Royal bag! I've actually never really seen Crown Royal here in Australia (I'm sure it does exist here) but it's certainly infamous here on BGG for offering great dice bags. This will probably give a new home to my two copies of Cthulhu Dice so the Zombie Dice tube can stop feeling suffocated.

Inside the bag were some really cute erasers (the biggest one is GREEN!) and a great Spin 4 It to help choose who goes first. Both will get plenty of use, I'll have to keep the erasers away from the students at the school I teach at...

I reached in for what felt like another ziplock bag to find that it dragged a little friend along with it A very fancy blue glowstick/flashlight/whistle/flasher (very handy with all the times I am heading out to the shed at night) and what looks to be a complete collection of Firefly trading cards! I love Firefly! I have several brothers and friends who will be eager to have a look through these too!

Still going through the bag and still feels like lots of room. I see tentacles!!! goo

WOW! TENTACLES! I've been wanting one of these bags for a long time! I had no idea they were this large either! Every Australian supplier has always been out of them as well. And a wonderful array of dice as well - which are a much needed addition to my gaming cupboard - they'll all find great homes amongst games missing dice and also for some future game design projects! Thanks so much again Cate! I still can't believe there's even MORE in this bag!

OH MY! MORE TENTACLY GOO-DNESS! Seriously outdone yourself Cate! Cthulhu Gloom is a game I've always wanted, but couldn't justify owning the original version. The great thing is that I can now put the games together and play up to 8 players. Oh that will be dastardly! And fittingly a pack of Super Awesome trading cards fell out of the pack as I grabbed this box out. I'm over the moon! THANK YOU CATE! Yet the surprises continue...

Hahaha, oh my! These are hilarious! These are all going to find great homes on my TCG coffin boxes, perhaps one of my guitars or the back window of the car. I'd certainly prefer to be going to Miskatonic University as opposed to the one I'm currently studying at! These are so great, Cate!

Gobsmacked as I may already be, I pulled out this pleasant little box next! One thing I love almost as much as Cthulhu and the colour green is - expansions! So a very generous inclusion of the only expansion to Cthulhu Gloom (which I'd only just received) that is also very green makes me extremely excited! This is crazy, Cate! Believe it or not, there's yet more goodies to discover

Ooooohhhh! I'm huge on horror and I'm almost ashamed to say I haven't seen this yet either! I'm always on the hunt for worthwhile horror, and with Joss Whedon at the helm I can't see there being a problem with this at all

The cover is very cool, as seen above when tilted the right direction all sorts of denizens show up behind the cabin walls! Almost at the end of the package now

A Print n Play version of String Railway! I've always been intrigued by this game and look forward to assembling it! I'm not sure if this is a random occurence or not, but it smells amazing!? I'm unashamed to say that mb, and this is certainly one that is hard to resist!

It wouldn't be a surprise package from Cate without it including a lovely postcard And to be educated as an educator is always a nice feeling - this card teaching me that Duke Kahanamoku, the father of modern surfing, popularized the sport in not only the United States but also Australia! Thanks Cate (can't stop thanking you!)

Thank you so very much Cate; I really, really, really do appreciate being selected to receive one of your amazing (and it certainly was amazing!) surprise packages! You've made such a phenomenal selection of games and items - I'm seriously overwhelmed by the fact that half my dining room table (the gaming table, as I prefer to call it) is covered in new found trinkets and games all the way from the other side of the world thanks to your generosity!

I hope to pay this forward in the near future! Thanks so much again!

Last month, my mb seemed to be forsaking me, as auction after auction ended in bitter disappointment and howls of anguish. And then, late in the evening following a bittersweet sunset (OK, I'm making up things, I have no idea when it happened), I receive an email from Cate saying I was the lucky winner of her May 2013 care package! Thank the mb! He has not abandoned me!

Well, if you read Cate's entry, she promises a tiny itsy bitsy package brimming with goodies. When the not so tiny and heavy package arrived on my doorstop late last week I thought my wife must have ordered another crate of makeup or some shoes. But no - it was the package from Cate!

I immediately dropped the package on top of Tzolk'in - a game which I lost yet again at the hands of my wife,my gaming nemesis. See how big this "Tiny" package from Cate is??

I immediately tear into the box sweeping aside crystal skulls and no doubt angering the gods even more than I did in the game.

First out of the box:
1) Awesome indented dice - perfect for some print and play fun!
2) Various pawns, chips, and dice along with a large crown royal bag. My crown royal bag holding all my carcassonne tiles is a little overly full at the moment, this will help share the duties, no doubt. The dice and pawns were immediately seized by my 4 year old and put into her pirate treasure chest and buried somewhere in the back yard...I'll need to go dig that up soon. They made her day though
3) A huge stack of Firefly trading cards - one of my favorite TV shows, it'll be fun to look through these and read all the tidbits! Although mostly that will probably make me very sad there won't be any more adventures with the crew any more...man, I still get upset by that after all these years...
4) Another tiny crown royal bag (so cute!), a little Japanese-style wind up car (super cute!), and a nice leather-wrapped dice cup. I like the rounded bottom on this one!

But there was even more!
1) Gaming tokens, fuzzy balls, and Famous Flagships: The World's Smallest Yacht Racing Game! I'm a big fan of tiny games that can go anywhere, looking forward to trying this one out this weekend at my Grandma's birthday party! The tokens are pretty sweet - what to upgrade??? And the fuzzy balls have been added to the kid's craft box. I foresee Rudolph's being made around Christmas with reckless abandon!
2) A cute little notepad, Apple stickers, a fly swatter gun, and a cool hawaii postcard from Cate. The fly swatter gun is a hit - my wife hates flies in the house (well, is anyone really a fan?) and has already had fun trying to shoot them with this sucker. The notepad was once again comandeered by my daughter, and now it's filled with numerous squiggles and lines - a map to her hidden treasure, no doubt. Cate asked if I was a PC guy in her info collecting email, so I'm guessing the apple stickers are a subtle dig at my preferred computing platform. Well played, Cate. Well played.
3) Gaming bags, cancer sucks wristband, book light. I was literally on my way to the run errands, one of which was to Joann Fabrics to buy some more plastic bags when this box came. Thanks for saving me some gas, Cate.
4) Cate promised a small game in my package, and she didn't dissappoint! Weilong looks pretty cool - did I already mention I love small games?? that along with the Famous Flagships game would have been awesome enough - more than I expected already in this package from Cate's assertation that this would be a small package. But no! Look at that Mr. Jack Pocket ! Another wonderful small game that will be perfect for me and my wife! Thanks so much for everything, Cate!!!

But wait, what the heck. Glory to Rome ?! Black box edition?? With kickstarter promos?! what the heck. What happened to a humble package, Cate?? I mean, this thing is gorgeous! I know not everyone is, but I'm a huge fan of the redesign of this game. I love the art design. I was lukewarm on the original but also very put off by the garish 1980s gradients and cartoony drawings in such a meaty game. Looking forward to giving this one another go - I'm excited to see what my gaming nemesis thinks about it!

So that's my package!

I know Cate probably did more i nthis package than she should have and I couldn't be more grateful. If the box had half of the things that it did it would have easily been worth twice the 100 I dropped in her auction. But for what I recieved - the care and though that went into the package alone...I'm not exaggerating when I say that this has been my favorite G4GG win. And I won a $100 gift cert to CSI before, so that's no small statement.

A message to everyone: you NEED to put into Cate's drawings. As much as you can. You might not get this much, but looking at all the previous packages, you'll still get an amazing experience.

Thanks again, Cate! You're a good chap!

As originally posted on this month's G4GG listing:

I'm opening this off with an apology to Cate108 and all of you. I won last month's "tiny little teenie-weenie gaming surprise package" giveaway here, and while Cate promptly sent me a wonderful surprise, I dropped the ball on preparing this writeup. I received my package nearly two weeks ago and quite forgot to write this post. As you'll see, that's an injustice because Ms. Wisconsin deserves those two weeks' worth of lauding.

We're probably all familiar by now with Cate108's tendency to be a little more generous than her posts suggest. Her only guarantee was dice in an itsy bitsy package but I couldn't help but dream bigger. That's the dangerous thrill of the unknown, it's easy to be seduced by possibility. For days after hearing I'd won, I wondered what sort of a collection I'd soon find. Just like her other winners, I was totally stunned by what I was given.

Look at the size of that thing! I'm pretty sure Cate's sense of scale is starting to fail, her itsy bitsy boxes just keep getting bigger. And heavier, oh my. I keep a collection of a dozen compact games packed in one large box, and the one on my doorstep was heavier. I sprinted upstairs to the gaming table with my lucky winnings.

I'll save you the effort of clicking on that picture to read the included postcard. It says "I sent you one big thing (+ totally pimped bits) rather than many small things. Hope you like it. Good Gaming, Cate"

And what pimped bits they are! Maybe it's a spoiler for what's under the packed Plano box, but just look at all this beautiful painted wood.

Awesomely sorted and ready to play. Most of this stuff looks vaguely familiar, I know I've seen it before...

Oh, right. Those must be animeeples, veggimeeples, resourceeples, and WAIT DID SHE SERIOUSLY SEND ME AGRICOLA?! The top game on my wishlist! Of course my excitement was at a peak and I immediately texted friends to arrange a game that very evening. Then I recalled a brief conversation with Cate. I had mentioned that I was kind of a completionist, and I suddenly realized I should open the game box.

It took me a few minutes to go through everything, but that's the base game plus the Pi deck, Gamer deck, theme boards, and promo cards! Cate masterfully combined my desire for lots the extras with my nerdier side. It will be a long time before I get to see all of these cards, and that replayability has me extremely excited.

I got to play this weekend but forgot to get an awesome whole-table shot of my friends and I enjoying the gift. I certainly have to include an established farm picture though, so imagine this times five

An incredibly generous prize as always from Cate108, to whom I offer the greatest of thanks. I promise you, it will be greatly enjoyed for years to come. Dear readers, I insist you donate so that she will keep doing this. You may not win, but you'll help make someone else very happy and that's reason enough, right?

Oh, and as a closer, a reminder that yes, the winner will get dice. This is the only matching set in my collection, so it's only fair that they get to live in my only dice bag. And how did she know I always play red? I tell you, Cate is way too good at this.

In no time at all, I received Cate’s surprise package. She termed it the ‘Family Man’ package. Like others, I was very surprised at the size of the box. Here is our before picture.

As I started tearing in, it looks like I opened the right end. First up is a quick postcard from Cate. I think this qualifies as an autograph!

Under the bubble wrap is our first item: a Crown Royal bag filled with goodies! A whistle with a built-in compass, ‘Cancer Sucks’ bracelets, Jewel Nuts of Paradise Island necklace, Harley Davidson Museum poker chip, Spin-4-It, and some gaming bits. It sounds like a lot, but we are just getting started.

A look at the rest of the box shows plenty more to come. I pulled out a few things and shot a picture. My dog could see I was excited and wanted in on the action. Le Boomb!, some sparkly assorted dice, 2 Giant Googly Eyes, some gaming tokens and player tokens, Super Awesome trading cards, dice erasers, and some blank dice. Is there really more!?

I finally worked myself down to the larger stuff in the box. Out comes Ghost Blitz, Dixit Jinx, and Defenders of the Realm: Battlefields. Are you kidding me? Three more games! I can’t wait for the chance to get them out with the kids!

I hit the bottom of the box and found a photo book, deck of cards, two issues of spielbox and Weilong. So here is the final spread. I am blown away! To start with, I can’t believe Cate got all of this in the box. I am so psyched! She really went overboard here. Five games and a ton of dice and gaming tokens with some other fun things for the family. Thanks so much Cate, you are awesome!

Sep 2013 G4GG Item

I received the final part of the tiny little teenie-weenie gaming surprise package today, so here is my photo journal of the contents.

"Final part?" I hear you say? Yes, this was a not-so-tiny little teenie-weenie package after all!

First, a little background. I only recently became interested in the Battlestar Galactica Play by Forum games (BSG_PBF), and as such, wanted to get one or two microbadges. "Hmm, I need ", I thought. "Ooh, Games 4 GG!" I exclaimed after a bit of research. So, I added my own G4GG item, a BSG Play Mat. This went well, earning just under 100 in the first few days. So I purchased a microbadge, and spent a few single on some G4GG items, including this one.

Cate's item finished early, and lo and behold, I won with a staggeringly small 0.1% chance!

Cate was fantastic with communication, asking for interests, wishlist details, gaming group info, etc. She also must have noticed that my Profile/Avatar was a bit bare, as I shortly received the first part of the package via GeekMail:

You've got GeekGold!
You've received GeekGold from Cate. Amount: 500

500 GeekGold to pimp out my avatar and spend on G4GG items!

Thanks to this, my Avatar went from:

I've also since spent around 100 on Sep/Oct G4GG items.

Cate advised that she had a game in mind to send, but with me being one of those International BGG users that the USPS love so much (and charge for postage accordingly), the cost of sending the game from US to Australia would have been more than the value of the game itself. So instead, I received the second part of the package via PayPal:

You've got money!
Cate sent you $30.00 USD

I wanted to maximise the spending power of this most generous part of the package. I knew there were some small items I wanted to buy from a local online gaming store, so I looked for some good deals - and found one!

Project Pandora: Grim Cargo

This is a miniatures combat game, setting Space Men against Space Rats! As you can see, I have quite a few miniatures to put together. I may even try using my mediocre painting skills on them.

This used up the money that Cate sent me, but I also used the opportunity to buy some mini's from the store:

These are 'Super Battle Droids' from the Star Wars Miniatures collection. I intend to use these in place of the Centurion tokens in Battlestar Galactica.

Today, I received the eagerly awaited third part of the package:

Again, a not-so-teenie-weenie package.

First out of the envelope was a pack of NBA playing cards (sorry about the image quality):

I take it Cate is a Milwaukee Bucks fan

Next is a set of dice games:

"15 great games of chance - includes Spot Dice, Poker Dice, a drawstring bag and full instructions." I haven't opened this as yet, but it will be a great addition to the Camper Trailer games box!

At first I thought this was a promo pack for a game, but no - they are the cards for the full game Weilong. All I need are dice. Speaking of which....

A Crown Royal pouch with some dice and a spinner. I love the pouch, and will definitely use it for my current dice collection! And who said you can't have too many dice? Hmm, dice, pouch, what else do I need for dice games....

A dice cup, some meeples/counters, and a Harley Davidson poker chip!

Love the skull counters, and the camel and t-shirt meeples are different - I've been trying out some PnP games (like The Dungeon of D and Aether Captains), so I'm sure I'll find uses for them. Speaking of PnP games....

Perfect for sleeving some PnP cards.

But wait, there's more:

A nice, portable game of Sugar Gliders. A fun looking game, easy to set up and play - possibly another addition to the Camper Trailer games box.

And finally:

A postcard from Cate.

All in all, an EXCELLENT not-so-teenie gaming surprise package. I had a lot of fun pimping out my avatar, shopping for a game, and opening the package!

I urge everyone to tip entries into any package that Cate offers - you're bound to be pleased with your prize if you win!

Thanks,

We joined the Cate club!!

That's right, the mailman brought to us one of the 'world famous' Cate mystery boxes. Here is our un-boxing...

The Mystery Box ala Cate:

The box is open and we have a few peeks of the treasures within (could have used the keys to get in the box, Cate):

The girls are excited and dive in quickly (digital disguise kit was not included in box):

The full stash:

"Good Gaming!" from Cate, a couple of keys, and a bunch of "Cancer Sucks" bracelets:

Battle Line! This was on my wish list but I don't remember putting it there Obviously at some point I read about it or saw it somewhere and wanted it bad enough to add it. Should be fun to play.

No Thanks! was on my wish list too but I do remember putting it there. Can't wait to give it a shot! Braggart I've never heard of but its always fun to try new games.

Bag-o-random-dice:

Random doo-dads -- Meeple keychain, bag of foreign coins, empty purple bag, Harley pin, and stack of Vasel Fund ribbons:

Meeples! (stars, horses, arrow heads). Not sure what game these are for (or could be used for) but they are neat:

D20 popper and some Weilong cards. I am not familiar with this game. Is this the whole deck? A quick glance at the pictures makes me think so but I'll have to investigate further:

A bunch of blank cards (two have Egyption type backs). Are these from a game or just for prototyping/PnP?

Cate even included 2 notebooks just for the girls to use:

That's the whole thing. Lots of fun to be had!

Thanks much, Cate!!

I hope this was good enough

When my BGG Supporter Badge Drive win fell through, Cate stepped up straight away and offered to send me a package herself. That was the kindest thing ever!

My package has arrived and I am so excited to share it. I won't be able to do justice to how fantastic this all is. I tried to take lots of photos but I am so incredibly bad at photography so I have ended up with two usable ones!

Firstly, is the card game, Murder of Crows. It looks like one that my family will get right into and really enjoy, judging by the back cover.

I will definitely treasure the Crown Royal pouch forever. My family are obsessed with Carcassonne and this will come in so handy!

I love that you sent me items from your hometown and such an amazing array of magnets, and stickers, and all the other goodies in the photos. You know everyone is going to be envious of my Spin-4-it!!

I appreciate your kindness Cate, thank you very very much!!!

I had contacted Cate when something I had won during the BGG Supporter Drive never arrived. She contacted the giver and was told the item was lost in the mail. Cate went above and beyond and sent me a grab bag of goodies to make up for it. This wasn't necessary but was very appreciated. Here's what we found when it came:

The package contained several goodies for the children who quickly grabbed up their favorite items and ran off with them.
- A very nice postcard. I kept.
- Multiple stickers. These were quickly swiped by my two oldest children.
- A start player spinner which is very cool and needed. I managed to keep this one, though my middle boy loves using it.
- 2d20 dice. I kept, though I don't have any game to put them with yet.
- Cheese eraser. This got taken by my middle daughter.
- Nice Harley Davidson poker chip. I kept.
- Bracelets. My younger girls took these.
- And Tiny Epic Kingdoms w/ Deluxe Content. I kept this one, of course.

Thank you so much, Cate. And sorry for taking so long to get my entry into your list.

I recently won a Cate sponsored RPG surprise package from the 2015 BGG Supporter Badge Drive / Rummage-O-Rama Give-Away. I am not much of an RPG player but my daughter and I love dice! Cate was kind enough to alter my surprise package to fit our family's gaming habits. My family travels a bit, but had very few travel games to take with us until now...

After a few short get-to-know-you questions Cate quickly sent the surprise package(s). Yes, packages. One would have been plenty, but Cate sent two!

I started with the larger surprise package first. First out was Qwixx, followed by many many other things.

The smaller package contained the Pub game Pairs

The great thing was, this little package with tons of stuff had something for everyone.

Of course my daughter and I had fun with the dice and the hand made travel/portable dice tray.

The kaleidoscope went along nicely with the pirate pouch. arrrh

Here is a list of the loot that fit in this surprise package:
Qwixx
Monopoly Deal
Pairs
Rory's Story Cubes
Rory's Story Cubes Actions
A handful of dice
Googly eyes
First player spinner
Handmade travel dice tray with dice
Two dice bags
Pirate pouch
Kaleidoscope
Note pad
Three Cancer sucks (because it does) bracelets

Thanks Cate for your generosity!

*This is my second win from Cate. My last win was from the Games for Geekgold (G4GG) - February 2014 - How Time Flies, where I won Bang! The Dice Game.

I am privileged to join the ranks of illustrious people who have received surprise packages from Cate!

In my case, I am the winner of https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/233547/item/5803419#item5...

Cate asked me to post some photos when the package arrived, so when it showed up a couple weeks ago I pressed my wife and my creaky old smart phone into service. Apologies in advance for the mediocre images.

Here's the package when it first arrived:

The first few items out of the envelope included some card sleeves, a dice pouch, cube-o-d6s, keychain, and some other trinkets:

My wife had no clue what this was for, and obviously I enjoyed explaining it. I've got some boxes that desperately need bands to keep their lids on, so they were greatly appreciated (there were several, of different sizes).

Next out of the envelope was the item that inspired the choice of geeklist item: Googly eyes! EMERGENCY googly eyes, to be precise. My wife claimed them for herself immediately.

Then I found the meeples! These little guys were probably my favorite items. They may just travel with us later this year.

To wrap it up, here's the whole pile. Items of note include the deck of cards (always useful), the Spin-4-It (already used a lot), and the percentile dice pop-a-matic. Cool! Cut off at the bottom is a whistle with a built-in compass.

Thanks, Cate, for all the cool trinkets and stuff! It will all be used and enjoyed.
