iOS Games Sales - Most Unscientific Estimates Ever
- Michael JUnited States
As a software developer, I often times ponder whether creating digital versions of my favorite board games for the iOS is worth it. After all, how can I compete with Angry Birds, Draw Something, and Extreme Blowing Up Stuff 3D with digital versions of games my game group might play? Well, I can't. Board games aren't quite that popular. But a few games have definitely proven that board games can provide at least a modicum of reward for the few developers who venture forth into the unproven waters.Recommend
Therefore, without further ado, here are my completely unscientific estimates of what some of our beloved apps are making at the iOS App Store. I have created JPGs of my spreadsheets to preserve the formatting as best as possible.
To calculate these numbers, I used the well-established, undisputed practice of estimating app sales based on the number of ratings a game has received. Based on my unscientific research, most apps are downloaded somewhere between 30 and 300 times per one rating on the app store. For this study, I chose the in-between values of 30, 50 and 100 sales per rating. In addition to revenue estimates based on 30, 50 and 100 sales per rating, I added IAP estimates for a few of the games. IAP sales were calculated based on 25% and 50% compliance; in other words, 25% compliance means that 25% of the users who purchased the app also purchased ALL the in-app content available.
THIS SURVEY IS UNSCIENTIFIC. NOT EVEN THE GRAMMAR IS SUBJECT TO CRITIQUE.
SOME GAMES ARE NEW TO THE APP STORE, AND THEREFORE HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO GARNER MUCH REVENUE. DOMINANT SPECIES FITS IN THIS CATEGORY.
MANY OF THESE GAMES WOULD LIKELY HAVE BEEN PURCHASED WHEN AN APP HAD A SALE IN THE APP STORE, THEREFORE REVENUE ESTIMATES ARE MOST LIKELY OVERESTIMATED.
