2012 Print 'n Play Secret Santa Wishlists
This is my third year doing the Print 'n Play Secret Santa gift exchange and I feel it has been a wonderful and rewarding project each year. The purpose of the GeekList is twofold:
1. It allows all those signed up in the Secret Santa can show their requests for their perspective Santas who can browse anonymously.
2. It gives everybody else ideas on what they should request themselves.
Here is the link to the official forum thread:
Also a reminder to the actual Santas: This isn't an all-inclusive set in stone list. You don't have to make exactly what is on them. If you can only make one, great! If they give you ideas for something else, also great! The point is to be creative and have fun!
I encourage anybody who is interested to join regardless of skill! There is no award for "best crafter" or anything. Whether you are a first timer eyeing that copy of ZiMP or a verteran who wants to tackle an 18XX game, the goal is to give freely and have fun!
I finally have some time to mess with this list. I've made a lot of PnP games and have a lot more printed and ready to construct. This list is a good one for games I don't have in either state. I'm certainly not opposed to getting any game, really, as any duplicates I receive will be donated to our local game group library and should see plenty of playing time.
Gotham: Building the American City
City of Guilds
Dune (Ilya version)
Kingdom of Heroes
Melee (Kwanchai redesign)
Wheels of Steel
Armed Legion Portable
Spy Against Spy
Silk Road Maker
Board Game: Hoyuk

I will join in the reposting of last year's list, though I will probably edit or add more stuff. This, at least, gives a starting point.
Höyük is one of those games I downloaded ages ago, intending to build, but have not got around to it yet. I am currently going through a '3D' phase with games, and that fits quite nicely.
I have lots of other things in the downloaded, but not done yet, list. I promise not to start on any of them before Christmas, so they are safe on here. They include big projects (in case I get lucky and get drawn by Andrew ), and much smaller ones, too, that are easy to make even for noobs. I hope that you may find something interesting here that you can add to your lists. So, here we go:
City of Guilds
Clovis: The Dice Game
Detective Graves Against The Mastermind
Doctor Who: Solitaire Story Game
Mail Order Mutants
Marooned Part I: Open Sea
Open Rails Origins
Silk Road Maker
The Big Time!
The Legend of Robin Hood
Tour: Cycle Free
Wheels of Time
But there are plenty of other things I would be very happy with. Games that can be played solo are more than welcome.
Edit 12 Nov: I have removed Baseball Heroes because Luke (the designer) has kindly sent me a copy.
I figured I should give this a go this year - I'm champing at the bit already, though, I wanna build some stuff!
Anyway - wishlist:
Dune Express looks interesting - and I'm particularly partial to the Ilya 77 redesign. (EDIT: And I notice that BMAJTZ has recently re-compiled Ilya's work such that it works with the Alliances expansion!)
(Is Wiz-War off the books now FFG have done a re-release? 'Cause Ilya's done a nice-looking redesign of that, too... ;-)
I'm kind of interested in Aether Captains: Pirates and Traders, or any of Todd's Lassadar games that I don't already have; I've enjoyed a few of his games, and his graphic design is always top-notch.
I'm curious about Open Rails Origins or 18AL - I've never played a proper 'train game', but everything I've read makes me suspect I'd enjoy them if I could find the right people to play with. Open Rails has a nice reskin by Sampo Sikiö (kilgore) in the web links, and 18AL has Koryo's graphics package.
I'd really like to think that I could get to play some of Cameron Browne's abstracts - Celtic! and Octex look particularly interesting - but while I like the look of them, they're the kind of game I'd likely have trouble finding an opponent for.
Of course, I'd be really happy with something that isn't on the list if my Santa can think of anything I might like.
- My girlfriend tends to prefer big-theme games, so I like this kind of thing 'cause I can play them with her. Examples from my collection include Arkham Horror and Talisman.
- The game group I sometimes go to seems to have a fondness for euros, and I really enjoy the ones I can get to grips with. Examples include Tikal or Hamburgum; I'd say I probably like the latter (and broadly-economic games in general) a bit more than the former.
- I have an incredible fondness for GW's old magazine-pull-out game Warmaster, a lightweight half-hour wargame. I'm not usually a wargame player, but I really enjoyed that one and I'd be up for trying something similar.
- I enjoy a lot of lightweight filler games or dice games, so long as they don't take themselves too seriously. And so long as they're not too much like Munchkin, which to me is a filler game in every respect but for the five hours it always seems to take to play...
- A lot of the time I have trouble finding other players, so I've been trying several solo games out recently.
I've updated my collection list pretty recently, so it should be fairly accurate!
Print and Play Gamer
The Rooftops of Ludovia looks interesting. And I haven't heard anyone talk about this game. So, if you have it or have played it let me know how good it is.
Other games on my wish-list:
1. Lord of the Rings: The Adventure Deck Game
2. Inspector Moss: House Arrest
3. The Big Time (big game)
4. Dungeon in a Tin
5. Aether Captains: Clockwork Cabal
6. Shadows Upon Lassador
7. Conquest of the Skies (big game)
8. Detective Graves Against the Mastermind
9. Hoyuk (big game)
10. Livestock Market: The Card Game
11. The Rooftops of Ludovia (big game)
12. Pirates and Plunder
13. Pocket Civ
14. The Thing
15. True Soccer Hero
16. Space Station Zemo (big game)
18. Sword and Sail
19. Arival: The Path of the Past
21. Paper Route
22. Good Cat Bad Cat
23. Squirrel Squabble
24. Reindeer Races
25. Snake Pit
The games above are a combination of big and small. Some of the smaller games I could play with my wife and with my 3-year-old daughter. I prefer Solo-type games, but any kind will do. I am also not resistant to games off of my list if you think I might like it.
Hobby game designer, please print and play my games!
I started a Geeklist of PnP games partially for me and partially for my Santa...
I prefer games that are:
Heavily thematic (sci-fi/fantasy)
Can be played solo but also by up to 5 or 6, but especially good with only 2.
Last between 30-90 minutes.
Strategy, Ameritrash, or (very thematic) Euros (Not big on abstracts or wargames)
I favor Worker Placement, Co-ops, and deck-builders
Nothing too serious!
1- 2- 3- 4!- A- A- 5!
Once again I will be listing a variety of items in my BGG Wishlist as well as posting a subset here of what my preferences are (and versions).
2.Zaibatsu (color version)
3.RoboDerby: Express (Malechi version)
4.Dune Express (Ilya 77 version)
There are a lot of "Large Workload" games on my wishlist for those who really like me and would like to go for that extra effort!
2.Smash Monster Rampage!
To name only two . . .
There are also some simple ones . . .
3.Armed Legion Portable
Hopefully this will make my Santa's life a little easier.
Oh . . . and I should mention, that if you find everything on my PNP wishlist to be difficult for some reason, I will be happy with other stuff. (Just check my owned and previously owned lists first!)
I've looked at Oh No, There Goes Tokyo! for a couple of years now but never took the plunge to make it. It looks like one my students would love.
As I use these games in my classroom, we will gladly take any and all games that we don't have. Here is a short list of games I think my students will enjoy but you're welcome to make anything your Santa-y heart desires!
Victor & Valor
I've updated my wishlist so it's nearly all PnP games. I don't make time for solitaire games, so please don't send those to me, nor anything with a zombie theme. Most other themes will get play time in my groups.
Interior de São Paulo
My First PnP SS and I am not (feeling) in the right to ask anything, so, just surprise me!
(I have some PnP games that I did for myself, not ultra bobobo high quality, but I like them - just check my collection!)
I prefer non-solo games and non religious games, but really, ANNNNYYYTHING GGGOOOESSSS!
PS: I am into everything ! I am serious!
Board Game: Go Anna!
[Average Rating:5.00 Unranked]
Wow, there's actually a board game with my name in it!
So, here's a few games I like the look of - I'll add more as and when I find them, to give my lovely Santa more options.
The Amityville Project: Phobos
Dominant Species Express
Smash Monster Rampage!
Crush Monster Rampage! (an expansion to the above)
Wiz-War (Ilya 77's redesign looks fantastic)
Evolution Earth: Cataclysm
Jasper and Zot
But feel free to make something different you think I'll like! Hopefully this'll help.
Things I like:
* Evolution/ecology/genetics/other geeky biology stuff
* Animals/nature/wildlife (especially hedgehogs and birds)
* Creative thinking
* Interesting dice
* Good old-fashioned beat-em-up violence
* Funny/silly games
* Pretty colours
* Games that play in less than 2.5 hours
* Singing/music - that's probably not relevant, right?
Things I'm not so keen on:
* Wargames - willing to be persuaded though!
* Too much luck
* Space-y stuff
* Trains (I like TTR, but don't feel any need for more train-related games unless they're amazing)
* 2 player only - I'd prefer something to play with a group, or maybe solo. If I can find one player, I can find 4. Or 10.
* Star Wars
I'm really excited to be making stuff for someone else - this whole Secret Santa thing is fun!
EDIT: Fixed bracket idiocy.
I have been a very naughty pnper this year. Work has been so hectic, I have not really made much besides BSG express and a few mechs from the game Armor Grid. I haven't even been keeping up with all of the new stuff that has been coming out in the last year, so I don't really know what to add on to last year's list. The only think I can think to add is anything from the large solitaire competition that recently took place: 2012 Solitaire Print and Play Contest. There is probably something on that list that I would like. Otherwise, here is my wishlist from last year. I'll poke around other people's wishlists and see if other things catch my eye.
I have pretty diverse interests, so there are probably a number of avenues you can go down. I’ll break this wishlist down into categories and you hopefully there is something there that matches with what you feel like crafting. (These are in no particular order)
Solitaire Games: I don’t currently have an active game group, so most games I buy anymore are either solitaire, co-op, or suited for a family. Any of the games from the recent solitaire competition would be gratefully received.
Dice Games: I like dice and there have been some interesting dice "express" games that have come out. RoboDerby: Express (Malechi’s redesign) looks really cool.
"Thematic" games: I enjoy games like Last Night on Earth, Space Hulk, Car Wars... games with miniatures dice and all that. So pnp games in this category I would like would be Dungeon Plungin', Zombie Plague, Smash Monster Rampage!, Skirmish Wars: Advance Tactics. Of course these are quite an undertaking to build so don’t feel like you need to do so.
Or anything really. There are undoubtedly a number of really cool games floating out there that I haven’t mentioned so if you know of something that you really like and want to make, give it a go!
I've put a list of some of the pnp games that I have already made/received in my profile
A little on the tough side for me to make a list this year. I've built a lot of what is out there and Chris Hansen filled in a lot of gaps last year. My matched giftgiver has already emailed that they are looking at my owned games list - which is a great place to check because i do record everything i own/make over there.
possibilities this year include
Lord of the Rings: The Adventure Deck Game (probably this as a first choice)
the leftmentioned Chunky Fighters
Island Of D
Island Of D 2: The Shadow of Dawn
Sword and Sail
any postcard wargames i may not yet have
the tokens for Decktet
no zombies, no train games, no 3-4 player games (just don't have that many people to play with anymore)
yes to solo games, yes to 2 player games
adventure/fantasy/science fiction all are ok by me
a last minute addition is the LOTR express now that it has the new colored game boards
Let's start by a non-wishlist:
Nothing by Todd Sanders. Don't get me wrong, I love everything he does, but I have almost everything and the rest is in various states of assembly.
Nothing by Kwanchai Moriya, same as above.
No tile laying game. That means no Micropul or Carcassonne: Winter Edition.
No hex and counter wargame.
Now to the positive:
I love solo games, but my girlfriend is getting into gaming so anything that can be played with only 2 is great as well. I do have a large gaming group so games that need more players are good too.
Anything with a good theme. I'm more Ameritrash than Euro.
Anything that looks good, I'm a sucker for good artwork. I already have Scott's Dune and Ilya 77's Wiz-War.
I'm always looking for something new, so anything that you enjoy and you think I might enjoy is fine.
Here's what made the short list, in no particular order:
The Amityville Project: Phobos,
Kill Doctor Lucky and Save Doctor Lucky,
TGoV's Free Trader. Scott Everts uploaded Hi Quality cards,
Anything by Experimental Playground (Oh My Lair!, The Mini Quest, Escape of the Dead Minigame and Horde of the Dead Minigame),
Karim Chakroun's King of the Tabletop,
Zaibatsu (preferably in black and white on transparency),
This is my first time participating and I am very excited to both create and receive someone else's creation!
Please see my profile for a list of games I have already created and to get an idea of what I like. I like solo games, card games, express games, etc. But would be happy with anything you give! Here are just a few of the games I would like to get from Santa:
Island of D trilogy: Island of D, Island of D 2, Dungeon of DDungeon of D
Anything by Todd Sanders
Dune Express (Ilya's redesign)
Notre Dame Express
(Any "Express" Game for that matter)
Island Trader (Malechi's redesign)
I may update this over the next week, but overall I will be happy to get whatever is sent to me!
