Sime, Murray, David, Doug, with Jamie sitting in for a learner hand. This was the first game for all of us. Totally crazy, about 50% bluff, 40% luck and 10% tactics. There are about 3 clever things you can do, and once you learn these you quickly learn to fake, pretend to think, and maintain a poker face.

For no apparent reason, Sime and I totally lost it at some point. The play was ... Doug plays the King, gives Princess to Sime. Sime hands Guard to Doug. "Got you", thinks Doug. "Got me", thinks Sime. We crack up simultaneously. David, looking bewildered, filches my Guard and Sime lives on, keeps the Princess for several more plays, and takes the hand.

David was our Romeo - getting four letters through to the princess. Inspired lunacy, and a hit.

Love Letter was requested again after its debut yesterday. This game is just crazy-good fun. We played two games with Murray, Doug, David and Sime at the table. Game one, David jumped out to an early lead, before Doug came back for a 4-3-2-1 victory.

Game two was much closer, ending up on a three way tie of three tokens between Murray, David and Doug. Doug took the game, but was caught not playing the Prince when he had the Duchess (honest mistake, really!). The hand was replayed, and Murray took the game.

Just a fun hour of gaming - totally addictive. This could go down as one of the all time great fillers.

Played a few rounds of a game concept that Chris is tinkering with. We may have broken it after a few rounds, as it was quickly yanked by Chris. Moved onto Love Letter. Jamie, David, Doug and Chris played. Victory to Jamie. Superb little filler.

Played stage 1 of the November Rally Down Under. Doug and Murray drove cleanly. Sime suffered an early puncture and crash, and Dave seemingly crashed 3 or 4 times on the course. Amazing how a crash sends you on "tilt" in this game.

Finished with a quick Love Letter, sublime again. Dave won.

Two games, five player. Sime, Doug, Jamie, David, and new player Lincoln.

Sheriff Sime took the first game by pegging the Outlaws early and not needing the Renegade. Game two was abandoned due to time, but Sheriff Dave was still standing strong against Outlaw Sime and Renegade Doug. Good to get this on the table again.

Ran the second leg of the November Rally Down Under, sans Sime who wasn't in. Murray, Doug, Jamie and David. Doug took the red "leader" gas dice, and ran a cautious stage, posting the slowest time. David crashed early, which actually helped him by allowing him to roll seven dice - he ended up posting the fastest time by some margin.

Rallyman was a new game to Jamie, who drove well, under Murray's instruction.

Murray now rally leader, heading into stage 3.

Played stages 3 and 4 of the November Rally Down Under.

Murray, Doug and Sime were out on course, and the racing was hard (see the image to the left, Murrayand Doug fighting for the lead on Mountain Circuit, Sime lurking not far away - and he would pass Doug).

Murray and Doug keep swapping the lead of this rally, and Sime is still a real chance. Two stages to go.

First game for all of us. Chris, Sime, Murray, Dave and Doug playing.

This is a very fun little game, similar in feel to Love Letter - minimalistic components, but brisk, fun gameplay. We ran through five games and thoroughly enjoyed it. Like Love Letter, there appears to be some mileage in this one.

Dave: 3
Sime: 1
Murray: 1
Doug: 0
Chris: 0

Finished up the November Rally Down Under. Murray went into the last two stages leading Doug by 2 seconds, and extended that lead by driving more aggressively - out to 11 seconds.

The final stage saw Doug take an early risk, not protecteding a double downshift heading into rocks, and he got away with it. Murray then proceeded to roll the following on successive turns:

The first crash was a spin, but the second damaged his car. Doug eased off, and only risked on the last couple of turns, and took the rally by a minute.

Sime ran a solid stage 5, despite a crash, but dinged it several times on stage 6. Dave was on leave and couldn't complete stages 4, 5 and 6.

Played a 3 player game on the USA map (Essen 2012 promo). Players were Sime, Lincoln and Doug. First game for Lincoln, so I chose a friendly mix of eight cards, including lots of deck cycling and waste management. Sime did his now usual strategy of early gold, waste avoidance and deck cycling, and sort of advised Lincoln (a quick study) to do same. Late game buildings saw Sime take the game, from Lincoln. Doug, still determined to make a station rush strategy work, ended up about half their score.

Four players, Dave, Sime, Chris and Doug sat down to learn this simple game. Cooperative deduction game, where you give clues to players (who cannot see their hand), and work together to build five stacks of five cards, in ascending order on the table. Sceptical looks, but a surprisingly engaging, thoughtful little game. We scored in the 20's in our two games. I liked it.

Five player first game for all, saw Cylons Jamie and Sime defeat Doug, Murray and Dave. Weird vibe to this one as we groped our way through the slightly procedural mechanics.

Murray, David, Sime and Doug sat down for a quick game of Coup, that turned into a 90 minute session of around 15 hands. We've played both this and Love Letter about a dozen times, and think we like this a little better. More scope for strategy and dirty tricks. Both great though.

Ripped the shrink off this new arrival, rammed the text through Google, and basically taught ourselves how to play this. Very pleasant, low key, Knizia tile layer. We ended up playing three games (Dave, Sime, Murray, Doug), with Doug taking 1.5 wins. Nothing startling here, but a very solid Knizia, with lovely pieces.

Finished with a quick(ish) Love Letter - first to three tokens. Dave was a Princess magnet - seemed to end up with her in all bar one hand.

Played five games of Love Letter, but this time with the Japanese edition. I think this edition is more interesting than the AEG English edition. The Minister (aka Countess) changes make that card a hot potato, and more interesting to manage. You are much more inclined to play it now, rather than sit on it, and this opens up the other cards making the showdowns more interesting. The altered Priestess/Handmaiden rule, allowing you to target players protected by these cards make the Knight/Baron more interesting too.

Also had a game of Rondo - solid Knizia, it works well. Nice tactile pieces too.

This has been languishing in my cupboard at work for two years, sitting on my for sale page. Decided to break it out and guess what, it was a blast. Played four races with Sime, Lincoln and Dave. First race was dull, but it was on the 5/6 player board. Races 2, 3 and 4 were much better, tons of screwage and laughs, in what essentially is a gigantic filler race game. Good stuff.
