I've seen quite a few games that were created by either using parts of other games, or just board game accessories in general. As someone who likes to consider alternative storage solutions, this has caught my attention in terms of how some of these are done and just how well they work out.

And I'm sure those who really do want to create their own copies of these games would've done so long ago.

Rummikub for the tiles numbered 1 - 15, and another color for -1 to -5.

IIRC, Royal Hearts cards were used, and you basically go from face card, 6, 7, 8, and then 9 in each of 5 different suits. Deck was adjusted so that there were three face cards, one 9, and two of all the other cards. Buy your own chips for the clues and fails.

Blank poker chips, Sharpie in the number of fish on each tile, and arrange them in a hex grid. The buy colored pawns for each player. Heck, get +1 pawn so that it could be left in front of the player to identify what color penguin he is.

The score/play sheets are readily available online to print. I've seen one game where the resource board was printed out and tracked with glass beads/stones.

Last but not least, 7 d6's can be translated into the appropriate values...
1 = 1 good
2 = 2 goods + skull & crossbones
3 = 3 food
4 = 2 food / 2 workers
5 = 3 workers
6 = 6 coins
