The BGG wiki tells us that "'weight' is an ambiguous overloaded term that is never actually defined." It is assigned on a 5-point scale, with 1 being Light, 2 being Medium Light, 3 being Medium, 4 being Medium Heavy, and 5 being Heavy.
Nonetheless, meaningful information can still be gained by comparing games with similar weights.
However, though opinions vary as to how to calculate a game's weight, opinions on this subject tend to vary greatly between those who primarily play wargames and those who don't. In essence, what a non-wargamer might consider to be heavier, a wargamer will often consider to be lighter. With this in mind, wargames are differentiated on this list in the following way: Within the text of an item, each game has a hyperlink named "Link to weight graph." If this particular item is a wargame, the text of the link will be red rather than blue.
