I have quite a few games in my collection that I have not yet played. My resolution for 2013 is to get as many of them played as possible. I have crafted this geeklist in order to provide my geek buddies some info on the games so they can tell me which ones they might be interested in. Please comment or at least thumbs the ones that you would like to try and I will endeavor to make it happen. I also welcome comments from people I don't game with.

Sadly, I have not managed to put in descriptions of all the games yet, but wanted to get this list published as early in the year as possible. I plan to add more descriptions as time allows.

There are also a few games left unplayed in my gf's collection, but I have not provided entries in the list for them:

Cass' unplayed games:

Nuklear Winter '68
Origins - How We Became Human
Tactic Blue
Washington's War
Snowdonia - played
Felinia - played
All Creatures Big and Small - played
Samarkand: Routes to Riches

And I have several unplayed expansions that I have not added entries for:

Unplayed expansions:

Age of Empires - The Plague
Alhambra - The Magical Buildings
Carcassonne - The Cult
Catan Card Game Expansion set
Hamburgum - Antverpia
Keythedral - expansion
MIL - Land Pack
Railways of the World - The Event Deck
Small World- Necromancer's Island
Vanished Planet - Racial Advantage

Player count statistics: Bold is best, Italics is not recommended, number in brackets is how many votes were cast

One of the oldest (like 4000 years old), most played games ever. I really should try it sometime. I thrifted a cheap-o set. I would like to learn from an experienced player to get at least a small head start on the strategy.

Beautiful wood board that appears hand-etched and -burnt, divided into 3 terrain types. Each player has a general card with a variety of powers. Wooden pieces - flattened dots for civilians, stackable flower pot shapes for military and spools for generals. Fairly simple rules and just a smidge of luck (each battle there is a die roll to see if one extra troop dies at the start [3/6 chance]).

I've played it a few times on yucata and found it to be less enjoyable than Antike. I'm curious enough to want to try it face-to-face and see if it is more engaging that way. Seems to me, from what I read in the rules, that yucata didn't fully implement the game's rules (general and admiral token??)

---------------------------

Cass asked to be taught this so we played a game. She enjoyed it - especially since she kicked my butt. I much prefered this as a face-to-face game. Your turns can be so quick that it gets a bit frustrating on a turn based online forum. Glad to have it in my collection as it gives Cass and me another good war-ish game to play.

Thrifted an unpunched copy (though it has a hole punched in the box top) of this grail game. Not sure it is something I would enjoy playing, so might end up trading or selling it instead.

Rather massive game of evolution and conflict in the ancient Americas. I've read the rules a couple times and it made my head spin. Would love to play with an experienced teacher, but if the opportunity arises I would be willing to read the rules again and try to teach it.

Have played it a couple times now and it seems decent enough if not great. The odd resource track and they way you spend resources by moving your markers in particular directions is kind of annoying. Not sure how much replay value it will have for us.

Grail-level game. Simulates the difficulty of the first assent of Mt Everest. Seems to me, from reading the rules some time ago, it is all about gradually building bases higher and higher up the mountain and stocking them with supplies and then waiting for good weather to make the attempt. Can be played with 2 players as competitive solitaire.

Very fun game. Played it with Paul and Rob one night and we enjoyed it enough to play it twice. The next weekend I brought it to Nate's and played it with Matthew, Eric and Scott (who also owns it and had never played it). All have enjoyed the intermingled aspect of the game, especially the tension as to what numbers to play to your opponent's turn and how that affects your end round scoring. A definite keeper that I hope to play many times.

Worthy of a high geek rating despite what appears to be multiple shill ratings.

Taking place in the 7th Century AD, this wargame has an interesting twist. Instead of playing one of the sides, you are playing both against each other, gaining victory points for both sides. In the end, you add both of your veep levels together for your score. Unless one of your levels is more than twice that of the other, in which case you only score the higher of the two.

There are many different actions to chose from, similar to a worker placement game. Appears to have quite a range of strategic options available.

From what I have read, it seems to take more from the set collection play of Ticket to Ride than the route building of Railways of the World. The very short play time leads me to believe it is lacking in depth and reviewers seem to indicate it is a good game for casual gamers. But still, should make for a decent filler.

---------------------------

Played on 1/12/13

Played with Dan (who won with a 1 point lead), Tom and Paul. I really liked it. It has just enough similarity to the board game to not be annoying (like so many people feel about Dominant Species The Card Game), and enough differences to make it worthy on its on right. Quick to play, with some good decisions to contemplate. Definitely a keeper and I'll be glad to play it again.

I was thrilled to pick this up at a thrift store. Might be too ameritrashy for some but I would love to give it a play. This is the version that comes with an extra set of rules to play it like Wallace's Struggle of Empires which I have played once and thought was a wonderful game.

Can be loosely considered a chess-related game. Originally designed in the late 1800s, it's been in print for a long time and I think I could get some enjoyment out of it with the right opponent

Played on 2/10/13. Solo game without expansions. I had a little trouble telling apart the colors on the red and brown doors at first so had to restart. Managed to win, but just barely. An interesting solitaire game. I imagine I may get several plays of it in. Might even bring it to work for when I have some free time (love the metal tin it comes in). I'll add the expansions after I get used to the base game. I hope to try it out 2 player soon.

An interesting twist on the area control game. On your turn, you draw 3 cards. One you get to use, one is discarded, and one is put up for auction. The auction is done Dutch-style, starting at a price you set, then decreasing until someone decides to pay it. This is done using a hand-wound timer which is said to be prone to breaking. My copy seems to work, at least for now. The cards allow players to place tokens in various places to vie for control and scoring of the various areas on the map. Looks to be very interesting.

Set in the same milieu as the great Time Agent, this is an epic 4X style game. Each player is a different race, each with unique advantages. You explore the quadrants, build up your forces, improve your tech, and try to conquer the galaxy.

Sadly neglected on BGG, the only in-play image was of this 2-player game. It came out at the same time as Twilight Imperium and while well-regarded by some, the added chrome of TI made it eclipse TW.

---------------------------

Started at two player game with Blake on 1/31. We played for about 3 hours and I made an attempt at the Throneworld for the win, but lost all but one of my Drop Troops in the first combat round. Painful! We both are having a good time with the game and hope to finish it soon.

Played a 2nd session a couple weeks later. Blake took advantage of my premature attempt at the Throneworld and has taken a significant lead. It seems like it's inevitable that he will take the win in a couple turns, so I might just concede defeat.

Good game. Now I really want to try it with more players.
