Here are my current favorites (in "full length games" vs. fillers) for December 2012. Some of these of perennial favorites. Some are fairly new on the radar. So far, all are games I am fortunate enough to own myself.

A game I still suck at, but have enjoyed losing every time. I don't see getting sick of this one any time soon. The fact that there are plenty of members of our game group willing to play any time doesn't hurt.
I am excited there is an LCG I finally like. Game of Thrones was a massive disappointment and the others so far have had little appeal. (Star Wars will be acquired for my daughter's collection.)

Surprising myself this would make this list. I was very tentative about purchasing a deck builder as I am 110% burnt out on Dominion and getting there on most of the others. We bought this game based on reviews on theme, also figuring the kids would like it if we did not.

So far, it has hit the table more than anything else in December and I am drawn back to it as a game I want to play, teach, suggest on game night, etc. My husband, who has pickier tastes, even loves this game. The intangible "fun" factor is there. The coop/competitive combo is great.

Not a new release but a new game to me. Maria has been on my radar for a long time and I finally played it for the first time in November. I would play this game at every game night if I could. There are few games I actually find I want to "figure out" but this is one. The mechanics are simple but the play and strategies will depend on the players. I am determined to not only play this more, but to make Austria win.

Every Top Ten should include a "go-to" game, I think. This is mine. I will play Small World any time. I will offer it up to new gamers. It's a good game for the Last Call on game night because most everyone knows it. It's a good game for the opener on game night for the same reason. And... As a bonus, it's fun, re-playable, scales well, has player interaction on the board (very important in games I like) and is well produced.

We own the base game and every expansion. Have played this one probably 100+ times.

Laundry for Takeout? Love, love, love this game. So much player interaction. This name is not for those who are going to get bent out of shape or AP though. Don't sit down to play this with me if you can't make a quick deal and have a thick skin. It's not for everyone but I love it.

I bought a Nixon campaign coffee mug to drink coffee with during this game. I LOVE this damn game. CDGs = awesome. Messing with history = awesome. Tug of war type player interaction is something I just figured out I love...like just now when writing this list. You do this? Then, I'll have to do this in reaction to take power back from you. Doesn't necessarily have to be two player, but this one happens to be.

Another game Scot will play just about any time.

One of the first games we ever bought and purchased on theme alone. This was a wise choice for us. I am a Dracula fan, old school Bela Lugosi, back to childhood when I would stay up to watch old black and whites with my Dad. I had a Bela Lugosi action figure!

Anyway... Deduction games are a blast. Multiplayer coop vs one bad guy concept = brilliant when done right. And, I think, the theme is done justice here. You feel like think hunters and you feel like a creeping, sneaky Dracula trying to race around undetected.

With the right group familiar with the game, we've had this down to 2 hour plays on a regular basis. And, Either side can win.

An all-time favorite "gamer's game" that we have been playing now for the last 5 years, including at our semi-annual Power Grid marathons. This was also one of the first games we bought, based on theme. Why building a network of power plants was intriguing, I do not know but there you have it. The U.S. map has grown admittedly tired but the expansion maps are still challenging with their multiple variants.

I will never tire of the groan of another player when someone builds the city they were waiting on or watching an auction battle or the fun of bidding just to drive the price up on someone else...if you can get away with it.

This game is 100% underrated. The ultimate (in my plays so far) in player interaction. So many strategies. NOT a game for everyone by far, but an amazing game. Namely, if you are prone to AP or you are a cry baby, this is not the game for you.

Personally, I still think it's best with a full table, a full table of good sports without AP.

No one ever blows up a factory? Wrong. Moving on...

Alliances. Tug of war. Things blowing up. Player interaction. Rondel. I cannot get enough of this game. The mechanics are fantastic. The player interaction is brilliant. Again, not for the faint of heart. Those who like multi-player solitaire should run, not walk, to the nearest exit. There's no mistaking this for a game of aggression but it's a game in which flexibility and a thick gamer skin will get you the win... Probably.
