Our household is (happily) a game-playing one. (The good kinds of games, not all that drama-inducing stuff.) Most of the games we play are board games (including board games played online at yucata.de and various other sites), although video games and role playing games have their fans. Included in our extened family gaming group are my wife, Deb and me, my three kids, Philip, Joe, and Ritchie, Phil's and Joe's girl friends, Emily and Sam, respectively, my sister Robin and her husband Frank, daughter Maggie and son William. Ok, Ritchie only plays occasionally and Maggie rarely, and Frank hasn't yet attended WBC, although we are hoping. We alo have our second OxfordRdCon coming up this Sunday, when we expect 15-20 gamers for a day of gaming at our house.

As you may guess from this prefatory paragraph, many games get exchanged at our house at gift-giving occasions. I am going to use this GeekList to track games that are given/received and when they get played. Among other things, this will help me determine whether to give more or fewer (unthinkable!) games in the future.

The list begins with the 12 games that were exchanged Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. There will be at least one item added shortly, because my sister and her family will be joining us in a few days and there is another game sitting under our tree.

Emily gave this to Phil. She had to contact a European publisher/distributor. I am glad the end of the calendar was not the end of the world - we would have missed out playing this game.

This was a stocking stuffer to Emily. In addition to playing with us, Emily also plays with her own family, especially two player games with her step-mother, Amy. I enjoy playing this game on yucata.de, and thought Emily and Amy might enjoy it too.

Another game for Emily. Deb called me while out shopping and asked if this was a good one. I checked the Geek: it had a high rating and appeared well-suited for two, so Deb picked it up. I hope Emily brings it around so we can try it out as well.

A rule in our family is the kids cannot touch gifts under the tree until we gather Christmas morning to open the gifts, but they can open their stockings when they get up Christmas morning. Usually each stocking has a gift that they can play with while waiting for Deb and me (or now that they are in college, their siblings) to wake up.

Ritchie is not a big game player, but enjoys group games, especially if they result in laughter. Also, Ritchie is headed to London on January 1 for a semester abroad, so I thought a card game might make a good stocking gift. We did not have any of the Fluxx games, and since Ritchie likes pirate stuff, I gave this a try.

Sam's stocking stuffer. Both Sam and Joe are into The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. Joe received several Hobbit and LotR Lego sets.

We did not play this on Christmas, but Deb took Phil, Joe, Ritchie and me to see The Hobbit Christmas night. We all enjoyed it!

Deb's stocking stuffer. Several of us enjoy Settlers, including my sister and her family. Unfortunately, it does not get as much play as we would like when we get together, because typically we have 5 or 6 people playing. Problem solved!

The last stocking stuffer. Phil is our best wargamer and we are descended from Assyrians who lived in Persia, so an easy to transport wargame with Persians looks like a winner. I hope to get a chance to play it before Phil returns to U of Chicago on January 5th.

This was on Phil's 2011 Christmas wish list. Deb picked it up in September and managed to keep it a secret.

Joe's stocking stuffer was a Bilbo and Gollum Lego set, but he did receive a card game as well. In addition to this zombie game, he also received a couple of zombie-themed t-shirts.

In addition to Deb's Settlers expansion, she and I received two games. Sam gave us this one - I look forward to rolling dice for mayhem and destruction.

The last Christmas Day gift game: Deb and I gave this to Phil. He has played this before, and despite coming in 4th in a 2-player game he enjoyed it. He and I both like Labyrinth: The War on Terror by the same designer (Volko Ruhnke), so this is another game I look forward to.
