Haiku Strategies - GG Contest (contest ended)
- Kentaro Sugiyama(hinotori)United States
Contest is now closed! Thanks to everyone who participated!
Inspired by the GL, 3-Word Strategies, as well other past haiku GLs (here, here, and here) here is a GG contest.
Can you craft the most profound haiku, containing useful gaming strategy and/or philosophy for the boardgame of your choice?
Those entries receiving the most thumbs by Friday, January 18th, 11:59 PM CST, will be awarded GG per the following schedule:
1st place: 20 GG
2nd place: 10 GG
3rd place: 5 GG
4th place: 2 GG
5th place: 1 GG
An additional 5 GG will be awarded, at my discretion, for creative incorporation of a seasonal aspect, 5 GG for my personal favorite, and any additional tips to this GL will be distributed to the winners. Multiple entries are allowed, but one prize per geek please.
May I suggest that you use this haiku checker and syllable counter to help check your work?
Game entries are sorted by Geekrank. Please post alternate haiku for the same game as a comment.
Thanks to Second chances only come once GL for inspiring me to put this GL out.
Here are the winners!
Based on the tips, everyone gets an additional 2.25 GG... Thanks to the tippers!
for Go haiku entry. 22.25 GG!
His haiku speaks volumes of the "minute to learn, lifetime to master" complexity of Go.
for Puerto Rico haiku entry. 12.25 GG!
It's a strategy... profoundly simple, and profoundly sad in how true it is.
3rd Place:Sean HaughUnited States
for Munchkin haiku entry. 7.25 GG!
Kudos for reference to the movie Wargames, and the ever present BGG meme of gamers having nothing but contempt for this game.
4th Place (Tie):Mal ContentUnited States
for Chess haiku entry. 4.25 GG!
Assuming both players are evenly matched, it boils down to the endgame. Deep, man.

Ross-on-WyeOi! Hands off...
for Space Hulk haiku entry. 4.25 GG!
Not a strategy haiku, but eloquently evokes the philosophical polarity caused by this entry.
5th Place (3-way Tie):United States
for Tzolk'in haiku entry. 3.25 GG!
Tried this in my very first game, did pretty well. Is this the key strategy? Only time will tell.

MD"Trying is the first step towards failure."

PennsylvaniaThis image is not mine – message me if you know who made it!
for Konig von Siam haiku entry. 5 GG!
The line: "Actions spent like fallen leaves, What is left but loss?" Oh, my heart aches. Well done.
Most profound haiku:
for Scrabble haiku entry. 5 GG!
Never thought of Scrabble in this manner! This game will never be the same in my eyes.
(last minute special bonus award)
Most prolific haiku writer:
for SIX out of seven haiku entries that garnered 6 to 9 thumbs! If it weren't for the "one [placement] prize per geek" rule, he would have tied for 3rd, 4th, and 5th places! An extra 5 GG for that!
Special Thanks:Jim Jackson(Kudzujim)United States
for being the first to try his hand at a strategy haiku in my FITS Haiku geeklist and being my primary inspiration!
Thanks again for participating! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
If you're interested in another haiku-type contest in the future, please let me know! Next time, I'll try to post during the middle of the week, and during the late morning, so that the geeklist doesn't get buried so quickly.
See you around the geek!
