I don't know if you are like me, but I like to examine every little detail of a new game when I unwrap one. Occasionally, I discover little bits of idiocy, incongruity, or both in the art design.

I start this eighteenth geeklist of mine with the hope that you will show your own little visual details that make you shake your head with the bafflement of finding that the game designers weren't paying attention to the things that avid gamers would notice.

In the Hasbrolon Hill edition, the teeth on the gears do not mesh. How can they turn?

And the wrench-hammer repair sites show a wrench and a *claw* hammer. WTF? Are these robots made out of wood and nails?

Several odd things in the art of this game:

The cover of the box takes its art from the Parasite power card. The Parasite is rendering its host mindless, which isn't what parasites do.

The Grudge's text refers to suction disks, but the artwork doesn't show any.

The Gambler (who is all about bluffing) is shown with a big toothy grin, rather than a poker face. The Mayfair edition Gambler also had the same problem.

The Mayfair edition Gorgon depicted a bull (or, one could argue, a minotaur), rather than a Gorgon.

The Mayfair edition Pirate's descriptive text refers to it whispering in the ear of it's minion, but there is nothing like that going on in the picture.

Not sure if this is the sort of thing you are looking for, but the first edition of Prêt-à-Porter erroneously had a red track where the blue cards should go and a blue track where the red cards should go... Luckily they fixed it in the second edition.

This one has a lot of issues. For one, it is called Serengeti, but takes place in Timbuktu - that's at least 3000 km from the Serengeti. And the African traders trade sculptures of South American animals there (no picture found on bgg). Weird.

Printing errors, that suggest a lack of quality control.

i) Missing names for Puerto Rico expansion buildings (bottom tiles)

ii) Mirror image error with "Building the Wall" action card (top left tile) for In the Year of the Dragon Great Wall of China expansion

And I have not tried the other expansions because I do not have the base games. Not sure if there are any more misprints/errors!

This has bothered me since the second time I played Alien Frontiers, but the board art and facilities were already set. The Terraforming Station consumes a ship to create a colony. I can think of two themeful ways to do this:

1) You land the ship on the planet and leave it there.
2) Smash a ship into the planet to lance a volcano or something.

Unfortunately the board art shows three lasers lancing a volcano. How do three lasers consume a ship? I would have commissioned the art showing a ship being bashed into the planet. With the board art that had been made, I would have left the names Terraforming Station and Colony Constructor, but swapped the powers. Terraforming station uses a lot of ore for particle beams, and Colony Constructor lands a ship and makes it a colony.

The game is set in the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) and the cover shows a guy with a hairstyle that resembles the piggy tail forcibly worn in the Qing-Dynasty (1644-1911)... Sigh! Who cares.

And how many people you see on front of this bustling city? Three. And there exactly 3 vegetables on the market stand, which the guy obviously pays a lot of money for. Maybe it is not the veggies he pays for...

In the original Japanese version of the game, the card depicted at left is the Prostitute card. Of course, in the U.S. version, this was changed to Mother. Of course. Because mom was a hooker. Or just dressed like one.

If it had to be renamed for "modesty's sake," why not just go with Courtesan? Given the other royalty and royal court hangers-on in the deck, it would have made sense.

But no, mom hangs out on street corners in an off-the-shoulder toga and with a bit too much eye shadow.

Okay—overall I thought the city names in Railways through Time were cute and clever, but a few of them rankled me.

I was delighted to see that Isaac Asimov got a city on the Future map, but good grief—at least someone could take a second and spell-check his name. And "McFly"? There are more than seven prominent SF authors out there; it wouldn't have been that difficult to find an eighth.

UGG is a brand of clothing. The proper spelling for an inarticulate grunt is UGH. I hope the publisher at least got a kickback for product placement.

Among the very nice bits included in this game is a listing of the Star Wars "alphabet". Of particular note in this alphabet is the letter "X" which basically looks like a triangle, or the greek letter delta "▲". If this is what an "X" looks like in the Star Wars universe, why did they name the "X-wing" like they did? If it was a triangular shaped ship, then I could see it, but it doesn't look anything like their version of "X"...

Similar arguments can be made for A-wings, B-wings, Y-wings...

In this game, the element of AIR is associated with the color RED. Not white, not grey, not yellow, but RED.

What's more, Fire which is traditionally associated with red in, well, just about every other game ever, is associated with the color YELLOW.

This is not just an ascethetic choice disagreement, this causes much confusion when playing the game because in my mind (and in many others) the color red is so closely associated with fire in so many other games.

Might not meet the geeklist specs, but makes about as much sense as fixing a robot with a claw hammer in my opinion.
