A gaming buddy does this, and I liked following his after I learned about it last year, so I will do my own.

I will include expansions...

I will include variants to games I have already played if they are significant (my wife wants to try the 2-player Alhambra variant as I type this, so that will probably show up on the list.)

Here is my very rough rating system:

= LOVE IT!
= Really Like It
= Kinda Like It
= No, thanks.
= NO WAY!

Here goes!

My wife and I love Carcassonne... we mainly play it on the phone out of convenience, but occasionally we bust out the cardboard.

I bought her 2 Carc mini expansions (#3 The Ferries and #4 Goldmines).

The Ferries lets you move boats/ferries around to change the direction of a road.

The Goldmines allow gold to appear when gold tiles are placed, and the gold is collected when something is scored that has gold on it. The value of each gold piece increases as you get more gold.

I really liked these... they added a fun element to the game. With 2 players, you could usually set things up to make sure you get gold, but I was able to steal gold from my wife a few times, and she got gold from me for completing something I didn't realize would help her.

None of my friends have been able to get this as I write this. I saw some cool re-themes, and figured I would make my own (another Mario themed one), to see if I like it, and if I should buy it when I am able to.

2 Player:
January 11, 2013 - I tried it 2-player with my wife. Neither of us liked it much. We each could see promise in a 3 or 4-player game, but 2 player wasn't much fun for us.

3 Player:
Unplayed

4 Player:
January 12, 2013 - Played it at a game meetup, and I really liked it. It's a good filler, and I agreed with the feedback in the forums about playing to 3 wins, with 4 players. Definitely one I will pick up when it is available again.

I picked up Revolver 2 in a group buy because Revolver had been on my list for over a year and I didn't even remember why, but I like the Wild West theme...

I got to play the first one twice at a meetup and I really enjoyed it.

Soooo glad I bought Revolver 2, and definitely looking forward to playing it.

Wow, I suck at flicking the disc for the guns (with my eyes closed... and open)... and at flying the ship at the helm.... but I was great on the sensors.

I liked that it was able to accommodate 8, and I had fun, but I am really looking forward to playing with 4-5 players and getting way into it.

Glad I bought this one too.

Crazy with 8 players... I think I would like it more with fewer players... I like how it unfolds, and how crazy some of the pieces are.

8 Players:

Not bad, but definitely crazy and short.

3-5 Players:
Unplayed.

I really liked this game... I could have done better because I was only saving one black face for every gold face I got, instead of saving two. I had a good time, and it's a quick 10 minutes.

Still deciding if I will buy this one, but I think I will.

I can definitely understand the appeal for this one... it was just alright for me. Definitely one I won't get into... I would play again, but it probably wouldn't be fun for the other person because I just wouldn't be as good.

Thanks Chris for teaching me... I may try it again as the hacker, and once as the corporation before I finally decide.

After a false-start on this game with the wife (she's not a fan of learning new games, especially when they are involved), I finally got to play this.

I really enjoyed it... I lingered too long in the beginning (but I was also hosed by a misread of the rules thinking my discard had to be random... definitely wouldn't have lost the cannon if I had made the choice.

I didn't know much about this game going into it. I enjoyed it... with only 2 players it is really tough, especially when we payed the first few rounds without the extra patrol car to command. With 2 events coming out per game turn, it is quite crazy.

It was decent... i didn't think it would have the tension of Pandemic when you're hoping that one card that will destroy your mission comes up, or when you are rolling the dice to spread the fire in Flash Point, but I thought it had enough tension to keep me interested.

I knew nothing at all about the game. I liked the art in the game. That said, it's all based on luck... I was getting good draws, and my initial cards allowed me to get a bunch of cards, so I had a lot to choose from.

I think for the casual gamer who likes Munchkin and others, this would be a fantastic game. I am glad I played it, and would probably want to bust it out again in the future, but definitely not one I'd play seriously trying to win.

I was hoping this would scratch the Sim City itch... it didn't... building my own tableau is decent, and some tiles have interaction with the other suburbs, but it doesn't feel like I/we built a city at the end.

That said, it's a pretty good game... I like the combos that you can make through the placement of your tiles... I like that each game will play very different based on the tiles that are randomly removed each game, as well as the varying goals game to game.

Not as high on my list as I thought it would be, but not bad...

Never ever heard of this game, and I wouldn't have played it. Jason brought it to game night, so we played it.

Fun game, interesting decisions, multiple paths to victory (including a combo of all paths being a viable path, the one I won with), and it played in 45 mins with 4 players, 3 of which it was their first game?

Plus, one i am quite sure my wife would enjoy?

Definitely one I need to buy.

I am glad I played this one... the river mechanic is interesting. In some games, it feels like you're swimming up stream, and you're making no progress, but in this game, you literally are swimming upstream and sometimes making no progress.

When my daughter is the right age, I think this will be a good one. Beyond that, I don't see myself playing it much.

So, Ranking was available for $8 shipped a week or so ago, and I read a lil, and it looked decent for the Apples to Apples crowd, and i sometimes find myself with people wanting to play it, and I hate AtA, so I figured for $8, I was fine if this game sucked.

It was decent... for what it is. It won't blow the socks off of any gamers, but I liked the ranking mechanism. (Levels 0-6, everyone's tiles, including random from the pile, all start at 3. You move one up, and move one down from the same row...) There was a lil strategy, some bluffing, and laughs.

If I spent more than $8, I'd probably be bummed... but for $8, this was perfect, and should assist me in my quest to never have to play Apples to Apples again.

... for what it is.

I had been interested in this one, just didn't have the cash to Kickstart it when it was available, and it just came out...

I really liked it. I was constantly spending the two currencies to do stuff.

That said, I think the random turn order is pretty unfair to the person going in last. They have to outdo the others by a bit in marketing/advertising, to not be last most of the turn of the game. Because of how the mechanic works, if the other players just match the effort of the last place player, he only makes it to 3rd or 2nd once or twice, before being knocked back.

Turn order definitely plays a big role. Lack of bonuses every turn, having to go last for getting employees (meaning you are usually spending more, and in a game where both currencies are usually pretty scarce, that can be a detriment, especially early game when those extra workers can do a lot, mostly because it was cost prohibitive for the other players to buy)... all of this when you're in last not because of your actions, but because of a random initial turn order selection.

Other games use a bidding system for initial turn order, extra compensation for the players further down the turn order track at first, or other such equalizers...

I hope this isn't a flaw, and while I think being last initially may be able to be overcome, I think having to use so much "time" early in advertising to overcompensate for the random turn order, would put a player behind all game because of the cost... plus, after the first round, because the random first two players were able to buy employees at a decent price, then have enough "time" in round 2 to devote to their normal placements, plus some extra to get back to a higher position in the advertising area.

/rant

A good economic brain-burning game, with some future payoff mechanics I like.

Ultimately, if the initial turn order being random isn't a flaw (and it could have just been player inexperience, but unfortunately, I suspect not) then I really like this game... definitely can't be played with AP players, and I think it lasts a turn or two too long... I hope it's faster with future plays.

(if the initial turn order is not a flaw)

(if the initial turn order is flawed)

Ehhh.... felt a lot like the original, and this one seemed to go even quicker, failing 3 missions pretty quick...

Hope to play with all of the roles, but I am now thinking this ain't my type of game.

After a few more plays:

We played this a couple of more times, and at first I was just dragged into it. I really enjoyed it both plays. I played as the bland good guy, and I played as the assassin, and I had fun both times... it helped having mostly experienced people, and some meta from the previous games.

I definitely look forward to playing this more and more.

EDIT: so, we finally added Lancelot and I really enjoyed it! I thought it added enough to make lady of the lake a little better since you don't know who will be switching sides. I think the Lancelot switch possibilities should be before turns 2, 3 and 4, instead of before 3,4,5, so give Lancelot two final turns to affect the game instead of being switched on the final turn and losing. I also liked Excalibur. I think it added a really good twist.

FINALLY a civ game I like.

I like the combat a lot... it is simple, it makes sense, allows for a little bit of randomness, but most of the time the odds will prevail. Plus, you have action cards and advances that help you to swing the battle in your favor, helping you to make up for an occasional bad dice roll.

The exploration made sense... the tech tree had a little bit of a structure, but a lot of ope-endedness, which I liked.

I was only 4 points behind the winner, and we had vastly different paths to victory. That is a plus for the game.

Unfortunately, it's a long game, and prone to AP. If turns could be played a little bit faster, I think this game would really shine.

I have been wanting to get this game to the table for over a month now... We finally did, and I liked it. I liked that there were multiple paths for scoring. I liked having to convert one thing into another thing (points or money usually)... I liked the possibility of screwing the other players, and playing your pieces in a way to prevent that or press your luck. I liked having some space with 3, but I definitely want to try it with 5... i know it would be crazy, but I think it'd be pretty fun.

This is a very tight Euro... I misplayed some turns, one in particular, and I could have been in the running for the lead, but I didn't... I did some kingmaking, but mainly as a result of my board positioning... I didn't focus on expansion early and it cost me in the end game.

It felt like other games, but it had a uniqueness to it. I enjoyed it despite my misplay, but something about it gives me pause about liking it more, but I can't put my finger on it. Definitely want to play it again before I decide if I really like it.

Revolution! by phillip duBarry was definitely one of my top 3 games I learned in 2012... extremely fast rules, fast playing, good area control, and a fun bidding mechanism. When I saw Courtier was from duBarry, it was pretty much an insta-buy for me.

I couldn't get the cards I wanted when I needed them, and I was always in contention with someone, even for courtiers for our secret petitions. I severely underestimated the power of the various areas, and watched my opponents kick my butt because of it.

I liked the combos... I liked the kinda-of Revolution feel. I think because of the card-reading and possibilities for combos, I got a lil AP slowing the game down a bit... hopefully after future plays that would ease up.

I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, but I want to try it out with 4 players, and again with 3 players because I think I will like it more after more plays.

(could go up from here)
