This is a place to share your math trade woes. Maybe you accidentally checked the box that offered your in-shrink Dominion for a used copy of Crocodile Pool Party. Maybe you didn't understand duplicate protection, and ended up with four copies of Ticket to Ride. Maybe you got great trades, but then mixed up the packages and sent two games to the wrong people. Share your horror story here.

NOTE: This list is for self-inflicted math trade mishaps. It is not the place to complain about people who didn't follow through, misrepresented their item, or whatnot. There are plenty of other places to air those grievances. This is supposed to be fun.

In the early days of manual submissions, it was easy to confuse this wargame w/ Samurai

Maharaja was another easily confused item w/ Maharaja: The Game of Palace Building in India

I once accidentally acquired two copies of this game.

My thought process was: "It might not happen, but if it does, this is more likely to trade than what I'm already getting rid of, right?"

I haven't been able to trade away the second copy, but we ended up selling a copy to a good friend who has been wanting to try it. So it took maybe a year, but it finally worked out.

In the early days, deleting an item from the Geeklist didn't necessarily change the order of the manually generated list. So instead of my coveted Civilization with Civilization Expansion Trade Cards Set, someone was dismayed to receive instead Monkeys on the Moon.

Neither of us were at fault-it was the result of an 'upstream error' of someone deleting an item from the Geeklist. A very generous Geek sent Civ to the recipient gratis, and I got Mamma Mia! as a good faith effort to get something out of the trade.

Nowadays, the process is pretty bulletproof as the OLWG and Trademaximizer keep track of these things.

I had done several math trades, and everything had gone well. Then I guess I got a little sloppy. I put up a little bundle of games:
- Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper
- Counting Zzzzs
- Covert Action (with one slightly damaged card)

Nothing super-valuable there, at least at the time, but not total junk either. I knew I was interested in Intruder as a co-op, but hadn't really researched exactly what it was.

So I ended up spending about $10 to ship about $15 worth of games. I got back a game worth about $6 that only cost $1 to ship. Doh!

To make things worse, before I even had a chance to play the game, my wife was tidying up the house, and somehow all the chits disappeared. All I have left is the rules and the board.

Oh well. It makes up for that amazing math trade where I traded away Mr. Jack (which we hated) in exchange for a bundle of games that included the OOP Balloon Cup (which we still enjoy).

There's a pretty big difference between Bandu and Bausack (and Sac Noir and ...). I added copies of Bausack and copies of Bandu to my want list. I had already received Sac Noir in a prior trade, though it was missing a couple of pieces. I thought additional sets would be fun, or could help replace missing pieces.

I didn't do dup protection because Bandu and Bausack are very different, and I had very different offers for them. When I went through to clean up and fix my wants list, since they are listed under the same name, I forgot one was Bandu so I upped all of my wants to correct as though it was a copy of Bausack. Oops.

Fortunately, I wasn't offering anything too valuable, and it did have a few pieces I really needed for my Sac Noir game. Namely, bases for the players. My Sac Noir only came with 2...

I added several copies of Space Hulk: Death Angel to my want list. Later on, checking in my OWLG, it didn't register to check the entries again, but for some reason I had unchecked one of the copies. I checked it.

So the package arrives, and I open it to find... A brown cardboard box. I open it up and out comes a ziplock bag and the rules for SH: Death Angel. No gamebox to be found.

I rush back to the geeklist to check and lo and behold: it was listed as having NO BOX.

Yes it's my own silly fault - I probably noticed and thought "perhaps if it trades for something of little value". But then I put it up against something of higher value, and of course, the OWLG working it's magic, that game got traded.

Who trades games - recent games - with NO BOX?

Now while this doesn't quite fit, it did turn out to be unfortunate that I received this. It was one of the lowest of my wants, but I figured it'd be a game I'd be okay with. I like abstracts. And I otherwise would have been happy with it.

As soon as the results were up, and my wife realized I got this, she told me she bought it planning to give it to me for Valentine's Day. Oops. I just messed up her plans for a Valentine's Day gift. And to top it off, that means I now have two copies of the game, and that was my only trade in the Math Trade. Mostly, though, I feel bad about messing up her gift idea, which was a really good thought.
