I enjoy putting games together and giving games a try that I would otherwise not have a chance to play...I also tend to put a fair amount of work into the games that I build...so some of them get stretched out over a fair amount of time.

So...here's the list as it currently stands for 2013.

I am working on putting together a homemade copy of this...I won't have the cute crop meeples and will have to make do with cubes, but I'm excited to give this one a try when I get everything together. It's a game I wish would get reprinted.

Components are currently ordered, and I'm working on putting together the numerous boards that go with this game. Hope to have it together by the end of January if all goes well.

Completed 1/27. Looking forward to giving this one a try!

Completed the files for this one and have uploaded everything to Gamecrafter. I am curious to see if this is playable, as I am using the indented dice, and I had to shrink the faces considerably...I have some concerns about readability. We shall see in a week or two when the components arrive...

Update 1/26: received the Gamecrafter order and those die faces are very small...I want to give it a try, but I don't think this is a good idea. Still need to throw together some VP chits and do something for money...

Update 2/3: Completed the VP chits and tossed in my bag of pennies and nickles from my old PnP copy of Ground Floor now that I have my brand new nice shiny copy of Ground Floor

Played one game of this with Caleb. We enjoyed our play of this, but I'm not sure it takes any less time to play this than the original game! But it does use dice instead of cards for those that like the dice...

I will be using the buildings from a Monopoly City game so that I can store this game in a much smaller box ...now if only I could find some small helicopters

Also planning on including the expansion for this one that was just released: Crush Monster Rampage!. Everything has been ordered from Gamecrafter...then all I need to do is to scale the board and monsters to the Monopoly City scale, print them out and mount them! This is likely to get pushed into February...

Completed (well mostly!) 1/26. Played each game once and it's good light fun...I'd change one card in crush monster to make it a bit more fair, but it's neat to see those tentacles just multiply like mad... would like to come up with a better idea for the building tentacles...what I'm currently doing works but isn't really ideal...

Full board set up with Monopoly City pieces (and one building tentacle and both monsters...Mr. Smash & Mr. Crush):

Zoomed in on board and city pieces:

Both decks of cards:

Game pieces (had to substitute airplanes for the helicopters...sigh! Also had to re-purpose upside carrots to be my fires :

Zoomed in on some of the tentacles in the expansion. Card stands worked quite well - just doubled over the tentacles and stuck them in the base (after resizing them for the Monopoly City scale of course!).

3/28: Submitted the baby monster expansion to Gamecrafter and printed out the two baby Smash Monsters. Be curious to try this with 4 players and see how it plays with this fan made expansion.

3/30: Have the materials from GameCrafter...now I have to make 2 new Monster dice

Putting this together for a friend...this one will take a bit of time

2/24: All train, stock, and private cards modified to Gamecrafter's mini card size and uploaded and "proofed". Also added all the necessary wooden components (discs and red cubes). Waiting on my supplies to come in (probably Monday) so I can start printing out the hexes and boards and working on those

3/2: Everything is printed out and ready for lamination...

3/7: All boards and tiles have been mounted on chipboard...now to just cut them all out

3/9: Everything is now cut out from the chipboard...snipped many of the tiles out while watching "Merlin" tonite on Hulu Now its just waiting on Gamecrafter when I submit the order. Still hoping Hegemonic PnP get released soon so I can print the cards via Gamecrafter and combine it with this order...

3/23: Ordered!

3/30: Completed...oops...made a mistake on ordering the stocks for one company...ordered 5 Presidents, 13 Short Stocks, and 1 Single Share instead of 1 President, 5 Shorts, and 13 Singles...argh!yuk Additional Single share cards were ordered. Otherwise, everything is here...now to just peel 200 stickers and stick them on discs (oh the joy! ).

Delivered

Picture from the recipient of the stock charters, stock cards, and discs:

Will be putting together the postage stamp version of this.

2/24: Cards cut up and uploaded to Gamecrafter and components (dice) added. Ready to be added to my next order

3/23: Ordered.

3/30: Completed and even played once with my son Caleb. I really like artwork on this re-design and look forward to playing this one some more in the future! It's a relatively quick filler with interesting decisions.

Also want to put together a 4 player version of this from the PnP files. I think one of my brother's family would really enjoy this as well as long as it's not too complex (and I don't think it is!).

3/2: All cards and die stickers have been uploaded to Gamecrafter and are ready for my order when I submit it.

3/23: Ordered.

3/30: Completed and played one time with my son Caleb. Both of us are somewhat undecided on this one. I like the interaction in the game, but there is alot of "luck of the roll" in this one, and Caleb was on the short end of it several times. He finally just conceded (although i think it might have been a bit premature), but I think it went on too long for him, as we were between the 30 and 45 minute mark at that point. I know we didn't play with optimal strategy, and I wouldn't mind trying this with more than 2 as well at some point. Both of us really struggled getting any additional cubes in this game as well.

Putting together a quick PnP copy of this. Looking forward to giving it a try. Looks like a pretty easy one to put together, and while I enjoyed my 3 player game of the regular VivaJava game, it certainly plays much better with a much larger group. This looks like it should play just fine with 2 to 4, which the base game doesn't do quite as well.

This was a quick and easy one! Completed 3/15. Looking forward to giving it a try and seeing how it plays!

Did not bother with the two preset boards...just did the discs that can be used to randomize the research tracks.

Tried a two player game of this and it was interesting. I wound up winning 23 to 20 against my son. I'm not convinced that the blends should be worth 1 point less in the two player game. I invested in research early in the game while C had some good rolls and went for and got the points for blending...however his early lead evaporated over a couple rounds as his lack of research hurt him. He probably took bonus dice a bit too much early in the game as well. Looking forward to trying this one some more.

Made my own "custom blend" scoreboard ...

Planning on making a 6 to 8 player set of this as I think it's a type of game that would go over well with one of my older brother's family...and possibly the junior high youth group I help out with as well.

3/22: submitted for printing.

3/30: Completed a double deck set (although I'm not sure I really want to try it with more than 6!). Looking forward to giving this one a try!

Supported this one at the PnP level. This one will take priority once the files are released...this one looks like a good and challenging area control game.

SECOND THOUGHTS...looked into what it would cost to just get the components from Gamecrafter...after $50+ came up, I decided that I might as well just get the actual game with all the cool bits from Minion Games instead of doing the PnP copy...so I'll have to wait longer to play it, but I've got lots of games that I can enjoy playing during that time anyway!

I'm sure I could do it pretty cheaply if I just made chipboard chits for everything, but I'm not sure I'm really interested in going that route...

3/21: Have the cards uploaded to Gamecrafter except for the leaders...ordered wooden bits from Casey's and picked up some Easter egg dye...we'll see how well that works to dye said bits!

3/22: ordered cards & components from Gamecrafter. Printed everything out for laminating and mounting.

3/23: Laminated everything (tiles and boards). Started mounting everything to black chipboard (hey, it's space afterall ).

3/24: cut all tiles & boards & credits from chipboard. Only have to reprint the center galaxy board and 1 galaxy board when my ink order comes in on Tuesday due to a cutting mistake and air bubbles in the galaxy board...

3/26: OKAY...so the Easter egg dye didn't work so well...sigh. Guess I'll have to paint the pieces now (I have most of the paint on hand...just thought dyeing them would be easier/time-saving!).

3/30: Completed (although I'm still leaving the wood bits I painted out to dry for a while longer). I'll post pictures in the next few days when I get a chance. I did learn that there are good paints...and then there are "not so good" paints Had Rustoleum spray paint for 5 of the colors, but I didn't notice that for the sixth color I had a leftover can of some other pain (American something I think), and it did not dry/stick nearly as nice as the Rustoleum paint did!). REALLY looking forward to giving this a try...hopefully I can convince several others to sit down and try this one Saturday nite at my next Game Nite!

Pictures:

(1) Box with everything stuffed inside :

(2) Sector Tiles (mounted on black chipboard and laminated):

(3) Map setup with 2 colors (not necessarily according to the rules!):

Don't really care much for the theme of this one, but the gameplay has me interested enough that I'm going to put together a PnP copy of this. I'm fairly certain I can find other people in my game group that will be quite happy to give a game with this theme a try.

4/19: Ordered wooden pieces I need. Downloaded all the files and read through the rules...

4/26: All cards have been printed on label stock and mounted on cheap cards and inserted into card sleeves. Board has been printed, laminated, and mounted. Tiles have been printed out and laminated, but I need to paint the wooden pieces to mount them on.

4/28: Painted all the wooden tokens...will be stickering the agent tokens in a day or two after the paint has had an extended period to fully dry, although I really want to go ahead and sticker now

4/29: Stuck on all the stickers onto the painted wooden blocks...now that was more work than I was anticipating

Game completed. I still want to throw together a basic summary of the available actions before Saturday as a quick player aid. Looking forward to trying this one just because the blend of mechanics has me so intrigued.

PICTURES:

Everything in one photo:

Close up of the board...I'm not a big fan of 3 x 3 boards...I much prefer having just 2 rows...just too many tolerances that start to add up (and the bottom right panel does show much more of a gap than the other panels do...sigh).

Closeup of the starting deck and game pieces for the blue player. Painted all the cubes with spray paint (one coat only). Works pretty well as long as you use quality paint

Closeup of all the tiles/chits in the game. Labels are stuck on spray painted wooden blocks. Most of them are double sided.

Closeup of some of the cards in the game (at least one of each type). Made the cards by printing them out on labels, sticking them on blank playing cards and sleeving them.

The other players pieces :

Looks like a fun and (for me anyway!) unique stock market type game. Looking forward to putting this one together...although I'm going to have to figure out what to do about the "borrowed" dice tower since I own neither Shogun or Wallenstein!

5/2: Printed out the futures cards and board on label stock and laminated them. Plan to mount all of these on chipboard. The cards in the game do not fit any standard playing card size that I can tell...so I'll put them on chipboard and draw them from a bag (or something like that!).

5/3: Mounted the potion future "cards" onto chipboard and cut them out along with the game board.

5/7: Finished "designing" the collapsible cube tower during my breaks at work using Inventor...created PDF templates for each part of the tower and created a solid model to make sure of fit. Tried to scale it for 1 cm plastic cubes that I plan to use for this...be curious to see how it works once I get it fabricated. Purchased some basswood to make the tower from.

5/11: Been working at cutting out the components of my cube tower, and it's been frustrating. My design had some obvious weaknesses in hindsight, and it's giving me problems...we'll see if some wood glue will fix it or if I'll need to try and find another way of making it collapsible (or start overcry ).

5/24: wow...it's been a busy couple of weeks with church and school activities and working out in our garden I decided to try another approach and used some 30 ply chipboard (about 0.1" thick)...I think it's going much better and I made some design changes as well to strengthen some of the weak spots in the earlier design. Hopefully it'll get done this weekend! Ironically, I just acquired Wallenstein in a recent math trade...so now I actually have a cube tower. still putting one together though just for something different ...and to see if I can use the larger plastic cubes I have on hand.

5/31: Hmm...looks like I'll be playing around with my cube tower...doesn't catch enough cubes for my liking thus far. Printed out the tokens I plan to use for cash in the game...just need to laminate, mount, and cut them out.

6/4: Laminated and mounted the cash tokens on chipboard...but still need to cut them out (making them double-sided).

Here's what said cash tokens look like :

8/24: Still need to figure out a working floorplan for my homemade tower...first try didn't really work to well

Working at some putting this one together, although I have to make some of the stuff from scratch as I don't have the games to cobble this one together Currently working at designing the tiles for the game (4/19).

5/29: Finally finished making versions of all the tiles and map pieces in the game. Now to print them out and mount them on chipboard or wood (as appropriate).

5/31: Reprinted everything out a second time...forgot to remove a piece of plastic from the top of the cartridge...my guess is it allows the cartridge to "breathe" and let the ink flow...since when it was left on by mistake, the yellow ink didn't print, resulting in some very bluish/purply (and ugly!) results. Now I need to laminate, mount, and cut them out.

6/4: Everything is laminated and mounted on chipboard...now they just need to be cut out!

6/6: Cut out about half of the items for the game.

6/20: Printed out, laminated, mounted, and cut out the tiles with the new art work for the game. I think I'm all ready for my brother to come home and give this one a try

Looks like an interesting 2-3 player CDG. Has some similarities to Twilight Struggle (albeit set in the pre-WW2 era), but can be played with three player. Particularly intrigued with manipulating the countries towards the different governing styles which allows you to do different things in said countries if they're leaning in your direction.

6/4: I've started working in Photoshop to transfer the cards into the GameCrafter template to get the cards printed at Gamecrafter. Finished the Communism deck. Just the Democracy and Nazism Deck to go!

6/5: Democracy deck has been converted...

6/6: Nazism deck converted and everything uploaded to Gamecrafter. Cards and tokens ordered. Now to work on the game board, power boards, and the tokens!

6/8: Board and counters mounted and assembled...just waiting on the GameCrafter order now!

Looks like a fun combination of a word game and deck building. My extended family has always enjoyed word games, so I'm curious to see how this goes over with them! I've also backed it on Kickstarter, but I'm going ahead and making a pnp copy of the game as well so I can give it a try earlier!

6/27: Printed out all the cards on label stock to be mounted on playing cards (and then sleeved).

6/29: Cut out all 166 cards and stuck them on standard playing cards (3 decks plus 4 cards from a fourth deckangry ). Sleeved cards.

Complete!

Looking forward to giving this a try...I'm not sure if I can get my family to try it or if I'll be able to get my game group to try it (word games generally don't get played in my game group).

Files were laid out wonderfully with 8 cards per page and directly adjacent to each other with well marked but short cut lines...I wish more pnp card files were laid out so Also exactly the right size to cover up everything on a standard playing card if one is careful when placing the label!

8/6: Made a 5th starting deck to allow 5 players to play. Also printed out 2 more of each the first two scoring cards and one of the romance level to add to the game when playing with 5. I'm finding myself in too many situations with this game where a fifth player would love to play but I only have decks for 4!

9/9: Put a custom spacebar card together (mini-expansion mentioned in some of the kickstarter comments) - gets shuffled together with the four common vowels and four are drawn randomly for use in the game. Allows players to spell two words with their letters while it remains a common vowel, but then only the player who earns it when drawn as part of his hand.

Want to see if I can get these made up since I've kickstarted the second edition of the game. Unfortunately I can't get them printed at Gamecrafter since they're Agricola sized cards and not your standard poker size...sigh.

Well...i stuck them on tarot card template and i'll try cutting them out when they get here...ordered from Gamecrafter 6/7.

Well, it worked okay, although in hindsight I REALLY should have made one side of the card the background color instead of black to outline where to cut the card...since the registration wasn't dead on I have a black stripe on one side of the card...oh well Live and learn...

This is another small card game that I may put together. I would love to find a fun football game that does a fun job of trying to matchup and counter the other player...First and Goal didn't do it for me...I wonder if this could??? Still need to look at the rules to see how it plays, but I like the multiple uses on the cards.

2/21: Printed out on personal cardstock. Need to run through laminator, cut out cards, and round the corners.

3/23: Laminated everything.

8/9: Only a "few" months later, but finally finished cutting all the cards out and rounding the edges...now to try it sometime. Probably won't happen until Larry comes home at Christmas at the earliest

Will be working on putting a playtest copy of this together...uses a TON of cubes...but I'm looking forward to giving this one a try!

8/9: Counted out said 520 some cubes...didn't have 164 orange cubes but I did have 154 pink ones...so pink plus 10 orange cubes it is for now

8/11: Finished cutting out, laminating, and mounting the game board and the 4 player boards on chipboard.

8/13: Continuing to work on making "more thematic/fancier" event cards (what can I say...I like pictures on my cards ). Cards I've done thus far:

8/16: Finished off the event cards...now to see what I can do with the influence cards and to redo the player aids (pretty much just changing the font!)

8/24: ordered a bunch of velvet 5x8 jewelry bags for cheap off ebay...hopefully they work for the game Also finished off the remodeled influence cards...

Looking forward to giving it a try the first Saturday in September with my game group!

9/9: completed and played one time...I was a bit taken aback in that it took us around five hours including rules, but I think it could be shaved down considerably once everyone is familiar with the game. I enjoyed it...I think some things could be changed for the better, but there's a solid game here that I'd like to give a few more plays. I'll try to put up a write-up about the game sometime this week if I can.

As soon as Kwanchai releases his redesign of Hotel Life (rethemed to Motel Life ), this will immediately move to the top of my queue! See Motel Life: A Redesign of Hotel Life for info.

Progress:

(1) File downloaded: 11/1.
(2) File prepped for cutting :11/2.

Evidently there are a number of corrections to make, so this one is on hold for now.

Recently caught my eye that this one had free pnp version posted, and it was one that I was eying on Kickstarter, so I've decided to go ahead and make a pnp copy.

It looks a bit different from most games scoring-wise...and I'm still not sure that I have my head wrapped around it entirely (I think I understand how it works...but how to shape my play accordingly, that I'm not sure I've grasped yet ).

I'm also curious to see how the money draws affect the game, as its a random draw, and the coins could be value 1, 2, or 3...will luck of the draw affect the game that much? Or will it even out?

All in all, it's intriguing...so I'm looking forward to giving it a try!

Progress:

(1) Cards separated in Photoshop and uploaded to Gamecrafter: 11/2.
(2) Coins uploaded to Gamecrafter: 11/2.
(3) Tiles printed out on labels for future application to chipboard: 11/2.
(4) Finally got around to laminating the tiles and mounted them on my remaining black chipboard...also had to cut apart the file for the rulebook and recreate it so I could print it out on my printer...gah...square rulebooks with an oddly formatted pdf...now I just need for Gamecrafter to get around to my order already...it seems every time I've checked the status the past few days it keeps getting pushed back yet another day.
(5) All components are here...although I evidently ordered the wrong thing from Gamecrafter for the coins...so I'll have to improvise for the money

Pictures:

Entire game:

Game Board:

Building Tiles:

Scholar Cards:

Event Cards:

Coins and basic tiles:

Pledged the pnp level on this one...looks interesting...will likely make the four player version.

(1) Printed out the board pieces and the destroyed section tiles and laminated them: 12/15. Just discovered that I've run out of chipboard...oops! Ordered some, but it isn't supposed to get here until Christmas Eve...rats! Also waiting on my Gamecrafter order to get some of the parts for this game...

(2) Board update...decided to mount what I could and suddenly discovered that the pnp files for the board had overlap on all the sidesangry ...after I had printed them out and laminated them. After I got over my initial annoyance I took some measurements and did some more cutting...suddenly I had enough chipboard to finish mounting the board with the reduced size of the board panels...so it turned out pretty well Also went ahead and finished off the damage counters.

(3) Printed out and made my own cards for the heroes and abilities (7 of each type). Reminds me why I usually send cards outside to be made/printed

(4) Received the last of the components I needed from Gamecrafter...game is now finished and ready to play

Pictures:

Whole game:

Some components randomly placed on the board:

R&D Cards:

Hero Cards:

Not a theme I particularly care for, but I suspect my game group might enjoy this one...so I'm giving the pnp copy a go...I am dressing up the files a bit and doing some photoshopping to make it a bit nicer...we'll see what the end result will be like

Progress:

(1) Files downloaded: 11/1
(2) Photoshopping started...
a. Player boards and buildings completed: 11/1

Working at putting this one together as well. It looks alot like Formula racing meets Wings of War and looks intriguing. Will challenge my PnP skills a bit more - alot to this one.

One concern with this one is that if someone falls too far behind, there's no way to get back in the race, but we'll see! I have a number of the cards done, but still have quite a few to go!

This is definitely a long term project...
