The piecepack set is a very versatile set of components that can be used to play over 100 original games. It's also in the Public Domain, so anybody can make and sell piecepack sets and there're also free pdfs that can be printed to make a very inexpensive set:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2860

Recently I downloaded the game "Sumo" for the palm (a recreation of En Garde which I've never played) and out of curiosity decided to try adapting it for piecepack. It mostly works, and so I got the idea for this list...

Most of the items of this list are games that have already been adapted with links to their piecepack wiki page. The rest are just ideas with small explanations. Feel free to add your own ideas to the list.

By the way, I've tried to avoid the classic abstract games that can be played or adapted for the piecepack (chess, ludo, checkers, etc...):

Enjoy!

Edit: I've reordered the list by names to make it more useful...

Update: The latest piecepack contest, Good Portsmanship ( http://www.ludism.org/ppwiki/GoodPortsmanship ) has brought 14 new games adapted from existing games. Check the link to see all the games. As the rules become available I'll be adding them to this list.

Board Game: 22 Pommes
Use tiles from two different piecepack sets. As the farmer you can mix in a null. When the board is formed, this tile can be replaced by a pawn for easier play.

Board Game: Aether Captains: Dread Supremacy
With all six tiles and two extra coins of one suit you can build your air ship. Use the corresponding pawn as the damage rating marker. Furthermore use three piecepack dice for the building fase. Numbers correspond with the numbers on the tiles. Null=wild. Make an extra player aid to connect the numbers on the tiles to the special powers.

The remaining components are the same: the d6's and the d12.

A single piecepack is needed: 16 tiles are needed for the board (or 4 in a "travel version"), one pawn for each player and eight coins can be used as the walls.

A nice little abstract game!

Board Game: Andromeda
You would need two piecepack sets (using the tiles to create planets and the earth), piecepack playing cards in 7 suits (as the trade cards), a way to determine the points of the sciencestations and a maximum of 26 counters per player. Use a bag to determine the outcome of the colonization attempt. Only thing that's a bit more difficult to "copy" is the bonus cards. I played this game once and the bonus cards were not popular, so I guess you can play without them.

6. Board Game: Ausbrecher AG [Average Rating:6.08 Overall Rank:7299]
Board Game: Ausbrecher AG
Use 2 different sets: the game has 7 pawns in different colours (=suits), 7 dice in the same colours (=same suits) and a track of 36 locations (36 tiles or less). The last spaces are numbered 1-4 (use 4 coins). For the white die use the 8th piecepack die.

I think it's best to use coins for pawns, since you have to be able to block pieces by stacking on top of them.

Requirements:
11 suits of piecepack tiles (any 64 tiles)
standard set of 32 Chess pieces, 16 in each color
the rules

Set up the piecepack tiles face-up in an 8×8 grid. You can't use the quartered backside of the tiles, because you need to be able to slide individual spaces.

As always, if you try the game out, and you like it, please support the designer by purchasing a copy!

Just one piecepack is enough. To fit the dimensions of the board, though, the intersections of the lines must be used instead of the squares. The rest is trivial (the indian is a pawn, the buffaloes eleven coins and the dogs the four dice, for instance...).

Two piecepacks for tiles.

3 Pawns can be used as markers.

11 coins are needed per player, so moons and arms can be for one player (black coins), and suns and crowns can be for the other player (white coins).

And yet another Alex Randolph game... for this one you need nine tiles to build a 6x6 board (another tile can be used to highlight the central region); each player gets two sets of coins to be used as pegs (arabic numbers for short pegs and 0/1 for long pegs, the orientation shows the owner) and either three dice or three pawns to be used as flags.

Board Game: Cat & Mouse
To play this game, you need two piecepack sets. Each player takes a set of 8 coins of the same number. So for example: one player takes all 2's and another one takes all 5's.
I imagine it can be a bit tricky, since it's a stacking game and the coins aren't that big.

Just as with Hey, That's My Fish!. Clara's garden can be played with the tiles and pawns of two piecepacks. The colors would be the different suites. You would collect 8 tiles instead of 10. I'm not sure what the shape of the board should be, though. With Hey, That's My Fish! I've been using a 8x6 or a 7x7 (hole in the center) configuration.

With a little imagination, you can try out this game with two piecepack sets (or just one in case of a 2 player game):

* a die for each player to track the victory points
* a pawn for each player
* a regular d6 for movement

What you need to play Domina 4:

- 25 square tiles in 5 colours (5 each).
- 5 black pawns.
- 5 white pawns.

So you need two different piecepack sets: 5 suits of 5 tiles. Use 5 coins of a different suit per player.
