A place where families can find out about games that help foster family gaming time without sibling rivalry.
This can be because of certain game play features or design decisions that were made.

I would also like to list games that do involve direct player conflict and interaction without a high "screw you" factor.

I am somewhat new to the hobby so I would gratefully accept any contributions to this list.
Thanks for checking out the list and Happy Gaming!

PS - This geeklist is directly related to this thread: How can we foster family gaming time without sibling rivalry?

This was an intersting addition to our small gaming library (I also bought the Carcassonne: Expansion 1 – Inns & Cathedrals expansion). I originally purchased this to get my wife more interested in gaming with me (she prompted me to find a game she thought we could enjoy together).
It was a hit with my wife; then as our kids saw us playing they to wanted to play.

At first I was not sure if this would be a fun game to play with my kids since there can be a lot of fighting over castles and especially the farmland.

Well we gave it a try and my kids loved it.
In fact they would rather play this over Pandemic and Forbidden Island, two co-op games.

And the funniest part is that the most cut throat players in my family are:

1. My wife (yes you read that right, she plays like a ninja)
2. My son
3. Me
4. My daughter

I will also say that even though my daughter is the least aggresive player everyone else will sometimes help her finish a castle, and she will do the same for you. Meanwhile my wife and son consistently steal my farmland and castles (especially when they have a cathedral).
If you can't tell, I have lost most of the Carcassonne games we've played.

After this experience I am eager to add more games that involve direct player interaction.

This is the coop game that started it all for my family. My wife and kids love it!
The first time we played it my kids had a blast helping each other out to rescue the treasure and get off the island.
Having to beat the game together really helped my kids band together and help each other out while playing the game.
This is now a game that my kids will play by themselves and really enjoy it!

This game made playing board games my kids favorite thing to do with my wife and I.

Also, this game plays great with younger children. (My daughter was 6 and my son was 9 the first time we played it.)

The second coop game I bought to play with my family.
Similar to Forbidden Island in that you win as a team or lose as a team.
However; this game is more complex than Forbidden Island, but my children are starting to really grasp the strategy. (My daughter is now 7 and my son is 10.)

I was not sure if my kids would get into the theme, but they love it.
They have already named all the viruses. (The Red Dragon being my personal favorite.)

Another game that has helped our children become very supportive of each other while playing.

A fun coop dungeon crawl where you play the heroes that have to defeat the monsters.

My kids really get into the theme of the game. They each have favorite characters to play.
Sometimes there is a scenario that has 2 teams, I always let my kids be a team and they get to gang up on dad!
Nothing makes them happier than having a giant Troll knock their dad back 2 tiles as they sneak out of the dungeon for the win.

This is the first semi-coop game I have played with my kids.
Everyone is trying to ultimately defeat the mastermind villain, however you gain victory points for each villain you defeat.
At the end of the game the person with the most victory points is the "Legendary" superhero.

Right now this is my son and daughter's favorite game.
They love playing with all the different superheroes and seeing what powers they will get to use. (I let them choose the heroes they want to play.)

When we play we do not try to mess up the other players.
Instead we play to defeat the villains, but at the end of the game we do add up the points and crown the "legendary" hero of the day.

My kids do really well with this, I believe it is because the majority of the game you are busy trying to fight the bad guys so you are not worried about who may have more points than you. Plus it would be really time consuming to constantly check who has the most points.
Being crowned the "legendary" hero becomes a nice bonus at the end of the game, not the reason we are playing the game.

If Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game worked with your family, Sentinels of the Multiverse might also work. In this game, each player has their own hero. Each hero has his/her own deck of cards (full of abilities and equipment unique to that hero). They all cooperate to defeat the villain (with it's own deck) in some special environment (another unique deck).

Neither the villain nor the environment are played by anyone. Cards are drawn at random each turn depending on the scenario. So it's everyone against the game and everyone wins and loses.

The other great thing about this game is even if your hero dies, he/she still gets a special action (turn) to aid the other heroes from the great beyond. So nobody misses out even if things go horribly wrong for them.

The base game is a pure co-op that is fantastic for kids (and non-gamer adults). Having the actual cardboard castle start to fall really brings out the theme. If/when the base game gets dull (which it certainly will for experienced gamers), the Wizard's Tower expansion adds quite a bit of complexity, and definitely more decision-making, into the mix.

It can be played with or without the "Master Slayer" title being awarded to the player with the most kills at the end of the game. If you focus on trying to win this title, the game quickly becomes semi-cooperative.

This is the first game we played two years ago when my kids were 4, 6 and 8. All decisions are simultaneous, there is no "take that!" effect, and unless the kids are Rain Man-style gem counters, there is a winner but no one knows who it is until the very end. Thus, everyone shares the risk and tension equally, but someone still wins. The "celebration" period is always very brief because the kids want to play again.

A beautiful game with a great appeal to families, since confrontation is very low. Everyone is constantly scoring points, so there's a nice feeling of accomplishment throughout.

Another beautiful game by Antoine Bauza that I love playing with my two sons. There is a bit more opportunity for confrontation here (trying to achieve similar goals with limited resources), but it is still on the low scale as far as that goes.

This one makes the list - on the condition that the parents sit between the children. There is "interaction" between those sitting immediately on either side (for 4+ players, that means that only the person sitting right next to you on each side really does anything "to" you).

While this is a card drafting game, so you obviously have some effect on others, there is no direct interaction or even buying/selling/military with people other than those on either side.

We like this one a lot and don't like games with much conflict (for the same reasons you don't)

I just ordered this game to play with my family.
I think the best part of the design is the fact that who you have to attack is decided by the game.

If you are in Tokyo you attack everyone else outside of Tokyo (if you roll claws).

If you are outside of Tokyo you attack (again if you roll claws) the person inside of Tokyo. Then if the person in Tokyo chooses to leave you have to go into Tokyo.

This design choice alleviates any of the "why are you attacking me" from the game.

Since my wife and kids love Yahtzee I know this will be a hit with them.
