GASP (Gaming Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania) meets once per month for our Games Days. It is the 2nd Saturday of the month (barring any scheduling conflict), and the location is now the Holy Family Manor, near West View and Bellevue in the North Hills (about 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, via I279 North and the Perrysville exit). This venue offers spacious rental facilities at a reasonable price.

GASP is not affiliated with any religious organization. Like our friend Amy Farrah Fowler, we don’t object to the concept of a deity, but we’re baffled by the notion of one that takes attendance.

2013 Dates
• January 5th (1st Saturday)
• February 9th
• March 9th
• April 13th
• May 4th (1st Saturday)
• June 8th
• July 13th
• August 3rd (1st Saturday)
• September 14th
• October 5th (1st Saturday)
• November (No Games Day due to GASPcon)
• December 14th

Directions are located here

Game Days run from 10am till 11pm (an extra hour of gaming for 2013), and are open to everyone. There is a small fee per person ($5) to attend Games Day, to cover the cost of the rental hall. This fee is waived for all first-time attendees. The fee will be collected when you arrive, and will grant access to all the games contributed by our members, for use that day.

Speaking of games, there are always a multitude of board, card, role-playing, and miniature games being played on any given Game Day. We have a member-donated board game library each month, where members bring in their games for everyone to use for the day.

Visit www.gaspgamer.com for more information.

This Geeklist is for the games that were played at our latest Games Day.

We held a small bragging-rights tournament, a precursor to the Regional Championship tourney on May 4th (visit http://www.gaspgamer.com/news/x_wing.html for details). We had 10 players and the event last 3 rounds. X-Wing is still very hot at GASP, and we picked up a few new players for this event and expect a few more new ones for the May 4th tournament.
There were a few players that used the Falcon and Slave 1. 2 of the 3 top finishers had a Slave 1. Maybe the winner (Mike) will comment with his list. I didn't play officially, but I filled in the final round to give a player with a bye some game time. My list was

Han Solo (69 points)
Expose, Assault Missiles, Luke Skywalker, Mercenary Copilot, Millenium Falcon, Engine Upgrade
Biggs Darklighter (31 points)
R2-F2, Stealth Device

Paul and I played 5 games of BattleTech CCG. This game has a small following at GASP, but it's always enjoyable when we break it out.

Played with the supernova expansion as well.

4 player game that took longer than expected, but came down to a 35-35 tie. 3rd was at 22, and 4th at 20. I played exiles and had orbitals everywhere, but then, everyone was also building them. Around turn 4 I built some ships and started upgrading them 'just in case'. I then got attacked and repelled 4 cruisers with my 2 interceptors, 1 cruiser, and an orbital/starbase. Plasma cannons were key in the defense, as were the improved hull upgrades.

Really bland and inoffensive game. Basically you "challenge" tiles by rolling a d6 and adding your skill. Setup was a chore and the first game ended with two players only having played one turn. It felt like an under-cooked late-90's Mayfair game. Questionable facial hair on the characters for the time period.

I played three games of this, a 3p game vs. Baron Blade, a 5p game vs. Omnitron, and a 5p game vs. Citizen Dawn. The 3p game Vs. the Baron was the best. Beating his first form was a nail biter, second form went down in a round though. 5p vs. Omnitron was a joke, the only damage I took was from drawing cards due to some effect. 5p v. Dawn was fun, but we got crushed. We kept having to discard cards, and I could rebound from that but most of the team had trouble keeping cards in their hands.

I really enjoy this game and design, but it's a little loose when it comes to predicting difficulty.

I was looking forward to playing this because I thought the theme was pretty cute (clerks slacking at a convenience store), but it's just an obnoxious take-that game with a cluttered board, imbalanced player abilities, and no interesting decisions.

Played a 4p game of this, I think this game's great, an excellent balance of resource scavenging, planning, and game-winning aggression. Had a few folks stop by the table and ask about it, probably due to the unreasonable amount of pastel minis crowding the board.

Return of the Old Gods
Not much on the forums for this one, but --> http://eonsreach.com/gaspforum/index.php?topic=5923.0

During this session --
- The dwarf discovers an affinity for producing fashionable sunglasses.
- The party arrives on Topside to find the tomb of the Void.
- They hang out in a hippie elf resort and plan their entry to the business elf lands.
- The priest communes with the earth deity. She is disappointed with his reliance on Kel, the blood god.
- Their plea to the hippie elf counsel falls on deaf ears, mostly.
- They procure a sailing ship with the proper flags to enter the business elf realm.
- The orc and the smuggler stay on the ship. The rest of us non-fighting types are immediately captured by an elf ranger. The librarian tries to talk our way out of it and gets shot twice for his troubles.
- The earth deity and the blood deity ignore the priest. The water deity helps out and we escape the ranger.

Shattered Gates of Slaughter Guarde Campaign --
Full details here --> http://eonsreach.com/gaspforum/index.php?topic=5695.0

Player "Gina" does regular, highly detailed, reports of the play sessions. This is my back of the napkin-esque overview.

This time --
- The party teleported into a fighting arena to free a our rogue-type guy who was kidnapped last time.
- We killed or subdued or scared off a bunch of half-orc guards and a few other dudes.
- Meepo, the kobold barbarian, went to town on a couple of cockatrice.
- The Inquisitor stumbled across a fellow worshiper of Abadar hanging around, which was strange. We arrested him.
- We tried to take out the dude that ran the fighting arena, but he used dimension door to pop out of there when the jig was up.
- Met with the superiors at the church of Abadar and filled them in on the scheming going on under the city.

First time giving this game a try. Not bad at all, but wow... the designers threw in practically every game mechanic that exists: set-collecting, a little co-op, variable turn order based on VPs, random cube draws, individual player boards with tech advances, poker-like scoring, power cards that bend the rules, and more.

More fiddly between turns than Power Grid (if you can believe that).

Fate Core -- Esoterica 1881 (tentative name).
http://eonsreach.com/gaspforum/index.php?topic=6288.0

This was the campaign and character generation session. Players will be posting details of their characters in the forum. Here are the basics:

- Setting: Late-1800s monster hunters. All of those monsters are real. All that stuff the occult societies are studying is real. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen meets Horror of Dracula meets Supernatural or something.

- Character Concepts: The Great White Hunter, a conflicted Dhampir assassin, the alcoholic pulp writer, an anthropologist who went native, and an opium addicted occultist on the run from the Hermetic Order of the Golden dawn (and just about every other occult society popping up).

Should be interesting.
