This Saturday's game day turnout was lighter than usual, but a good time was had by all. DJ, Roni, Joel, Michael, Jim, Jenn, Steve, Chris J, Erin, Kirk, Byran, and I enjoyed an afternoon and evening playing a variety of board games, some new and some old. Thanks to everyone for bringing additional games and wonderful snacks to share.

Please add any games that I missed to the list.

We started off the day with the gang teaching me how to play Clans. I enjoyed this quick light game that is deeper than its simple mechanics would leave you to believe.

I soon learned my second new game of the day, which was the Korean ladder game Lexio. I have never played anything quite like this one and enjoyed it. DJ made a great comeback with an awesome final round for a runaway win. I forgot about the 2x penalty for holding a 2 tile at the end of a round, which is mistake that I will try to avoid in future games.

Jim & Jenn (newlyweds), Steve, and Chris J arrived and started off their day with a five player game of the relatively rare Knizia game Tower of Babel. Steve and I were the only experienced players, but managed to finish last after explaining the game. Jim scored an impressive 25 point end game bonus for having a set of four and two of colored discs.

We moved on to another Knizia game, and Steve explained High Society to us. Despite have $10 million in possessions (and a 2x card), Steve was eliminated from potentially winning due to having the least amount of money at game's end. Jenn had a 2x card, but also the 1/2 Tax Evasion one. Chris J suffered from a Theft, while I had Gambling Problems (-5). Jim managed to avoid any misfortune cards, but was edged out in scoring.

Steve, Jim, and Jenn got in a play of Samarkand, which is similar to Union Pacific and European Airlines. I am not sure who brought this one, but I am surprised that it is not played more often at game days since it is enjoyable and a bit lighter than the previously mentioned games.

Bryan arrived at an awkward time and had to endure watching us play most of San Marco. However, his patience was rewarded with a fun game of Kingdom Builder, which Erin and Kirk kindly remained behind to play with us. Our victory cards were Citizens from the base game and Families and Shepherds from the Nomads expansion. The extra location tiles (all from base game) were Farm, Oasis, Tavern, and Paddock. Our scores were relatively close, and the game was a good way to end an enjoyable day.
