Clearly games themed on the Nile tend to produce obsession at Epsom - this makes three sessions in a row for Kemet.

A 4-player outing this time so the first use of the other side of the board which, for balance reasons, lacks the 'Sanctuary of All Gods' where you can sacrifice men for VP. Not sure why this omission is needed for balance in an even number of players game, but there you go..

Mark went out into an early lead grabbing two temples by the end of the first turn and he kept his nose in front long enough to be within touching distance of a win by the end of turn 3. He was then reigned in and Jo was threatening the win, but my Mummy lead forces were also gathering in strength and Andrew was also still well in the mix. I moved to 8 VP (the winning mark) during the preliminary night phase of the following turn as one of my tiles maxed my second pyramid out, and that really marked me as the main target for the turn, although the others were close enough that they couldn't be ignored. I managed to pull out two additional VP early in the round, and with everyone running out of recruits and moves, I was able to hang on for the win. The key battle was me fending off an assault by Mark in the central temple and his retreat to a neighbouring space, which then protected me from further attacks.

Gordon 10 1st [8.5]
Jo 8 2nd [8.5]
Andrew* 7 3rd [8] tied on battle VP so on turn order.
Mark 7 4th [8]

Really good game.

Jo - Boardgameguru appears to have this in stock (if not Philibertnet still has it)

Played by: Gordon, Jo, 'G'Mark and Andrew B2.

Just under an hour left so I suggested RftG which I knew Andrew was keen to try. Unfortunately my set is organised to play with both of the first two expansions and unsorting that would have taken a while so I had to teach Andrew the game with quite a few bells and whistles - IMO this is the best configuration to play the game with though.

A lot for someone new to the game to take in especially as it had to be a 'brisk' rules explanation (sorry Andrew).

I never really had cards that synergised well so went for a rush strategy based on some military and the double settle development card. Along the way I managed to pick up the card that rewards developments and that was also one of the 5pt Objectives.

Andrew was struggling with what everything meant and Mark was waiting to get his machine moving which he eventually did but too late. I could see that Jo was doing OK and had a couple of 's down. Turned out a very close game:-

Gordon 43 1st [8] won on cards in hand
Jo 43 2nd [8]
Mark 24 3rd [6]
Andrew* 17 4th [?] wanted to play more before judging.

Enjoyable 6 person game. We didn't finish, but I think the humans stood a slim chance. One Cylon was effectively eliminated at the start of the game, and I (as civilian and military dictator with full powers) had already determined who to send to the brig my next turn - correctly it transpired, when we revealed.

The main challenge we faced was a Cylon sympathizer wreaking havoc from caprica. I can see why people don't like that card; it feels a bit sudden. One moment you're a good guy, the next a limited Cylon, without even having the fun of some subterfuge.

Our main mistakes as humans was that we were a little bit profligate with our cards during votes... A couple saw us spend much more than needed (we should probably have communicated a bit more). Also, I have read that some people meta game the sympathizer... Losing one resource on purpose to ensure they become a human. That doesn't feel like a very satisfying solution though...

We made one rules mistake. People can draw the full complement of tactics cards, even if it takes them over ten. They only have to discard at the end of the turn.
