North Star Games is finally releasing their first strategy game!

To kick off the momentous occasion, we're hosting an official BGG contest with hella cool prizes. No one said winning would be easy. Some of the contest questions are tricky, some are formidable, and some are ludicrously stupid. That's where the Clubs Commandos come in:

These heroic amateurs have one mission in life: to help you get every question in the contest right. In short, they want YOU to win FREE STUFF! That's right. They're big shots lookin out for the little guy.
(Like Don Quixote, but on an epic scale.)

NOTE FROM CHAD:
This geeklist is a supplement to the official BGG contest. You have to click on that link to enter the contest. Please do not give away the answers in your comments to this list! Thanks.

What's at Stake?
The fate of the universe could be in jeopardy. While I'm fairly certain about this, it's still just a theory. But here is an indisputable fact: On April 15, we will randomly choose three people who give us their thumb. These people will each receive a copy of Clubs. An additional 6 copies of Clubs and another North Star Game will be given away on the official BGG contest.

About the Game:
First there was Hearts, then there was Spades, and now North Star Games is bringing you Clubs! Clubs is a card game about taking calculated risks. The goal is very simple: win as many club cards as possible (that's the only suit that scores points). The lower the club, the more points you could win. But there's a catch: The last player to go out for the round does not score ANY points. So players who get too greedy might pick up a pile of clubs, but end up with 0 points for the round!

The suit of clubs finally gets some respect!

More about the Game:
Read the Designer Diary to get a behind the scene view of the how and why. You'll even learn about a new poker hand my mom created called a Halfway House (it's not quite a Full House).

The Hype:
Clubs had the best reception at Toy Fair and GAMMA out of any game we have yet released. We had so many pre-orders that we started working on the 2nd print run before the 1st print run even arrived at our warehouse! Don't blink or you might end up with the 2nd edition (which I can assure you won't be worth a million dollars when you retire).

Two major publishers are interested in the European rights, and another company is interested in the digital rights. Subscribe to the NSG blog if you want to be kept informed about the details.

The best way to get the answers to this awesome contest is to get help from the North Star Crew. This elite group is known round the office as the "Clubs Commandos". When it comes to Clubs, these guys are the crème de la crème.

They are the super heroes that will help you on your daunting adventure. Trust them in your darkest hour of need - but trust no one else! Villains abound who will try to lead you astray.

Question 1: Clubs was inspired by which card game?

Introducing "Fitty Points". He got his nickname from winning a game of Clubs on the first hand. A feat that has never been repeated in the history of Clubs. In fact, it's a feat that has never been repeated in the history of anything... EVER. (at least not yet)

HINT from "Fitty Points":
Spoiler (click to reveal)
You need a thousand points to win this game. It's the title of this NSG blog which we posted several years ago.
(I feel sorry for the poor schmuck whose nickname is "Thous'nd points)

Question 2: How many points is the 1 of clubs worth?

Introducing the "Queen O' Clubs". To be honest, that's not really her nickname. I just made it up because she's sitting on a throne and has a crown in this picture.

HINT from the "Queen O' Clubs":

Here is a link to a picture of the club cards.

Question 3: Who does the graphic on the 15 of Clubs depict?

Introducing the "King O' Clubs". He tells me that it's good to be the king. He's probably right (I wouldn't know).

HINT from the "King O' Clubs":
Spoiler (click to reveal)
It's a picture of me. That's right. It's good to be the king!

Question 4: In a 5 player game, how many bonus points does the first person out of cards receive?

Introducing "Capt'n Clubs". He designed his first card game when he was the captain of an Alaskan fishing boat. It was mockingly called "The Vietnam Conflict" by his crew after he subjected them to hundreds of play tests. But look who's laughing now. Capt'n Clubs has been immortalized on the 15 of hearts!

HINT from "Capt'n Clubs":
Spoiler (click to reveal)
The second Bonus Card listed on the Clubs page is the one received by the first player out in a 5-player game.

Question 5: Which of the following hands would be the best hand to call Double or Nothing with?

Introducing Luke "Sky Walker Texas Ranger". He's a hard core wargamer raised in Texas. Nuff said.

HINT from Luke "Sky Walker Texas Ranger":
Spoiler (click to reveal)
I call Double or Nothin on every hand. What's it to me? I don't care about silly card games. Sometimes I win. Sometimes I kick my opponents in the face with a roundhouse.

Spoiler (click to reveal)
Oh, I forgot to mention. One of these hands can be played out in four plays and it has one "guaranteed" win. That's the correct answer. And Hand 3 is pretty good too, with the double 15s, but that's not the droid you're looking for.

Question 6: This is your hand in a 6 player game. The person to your right leads with a two card run consisting of the 1 of diamonds & the 2 of spades. What should you do on your turn?

Introducing "The Ringer". Bayard Catron is not officially part of the North Star crew, but we bring him in to help refine most of our games before we publish them. Clubs was no exception. Right now he working on questions for the Wits & Wagers app. You can't trust the Ringer. He's mean, lean, and a little bit green (just like his shirt). The picture below was taken when he went out last during a game of Clubs.

HINT from "The Ringer":
Spoiler (click to reveal)
I would play the 14 of clubs & 15 of spades. Just because I went out last one round does not mean you can't trust me!
