The Subjectively Objective Review Series

The goal of these reviews will be evolving in time, of that I am sure. Currently, they run under this motto:

I have come to the conclusion that in life most of the stuff that comes out of people's mouths is a matter of subjectivity. Even the "hard facts". This is particularly true when we talk about tastes and preference resulting from personal interests, social background, cutural heritage, childhood trauma and the sort.
So I will not even try to sell you my review as the only viable one, the complete list of facts about the game, the true feeling that the latter conveys. What I would try to do, though, is shower you with convincing arguments and, by doing so, lead you into believing that my reasoning is solidly backed by a wall of objectivity.

Summary: All in all, A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (Second Edition) is a perfect game for me. It has a nice mixture of mathematical/tactical decisions, human interaction through negotiation and a theme I really like! Thanks for reading and happy gaming!

Summary: I am really on the tip here... I like Claustrophobia. It’s a fun game with a couple of neat mechanics and an engaging story, a real diamond in the rough. It’s only problem is that it lacks a tiny bit in the two major aspect – complexity and variety. Maybe an inappropriate example but still - a game a bit more intricate and a bit more rich in possibilities would be Descent 2. Edition. Or put in other words – if they had invested the money for the miniatures paint job in more figure molds and more customization options that would have made the game a top 10! Or.., Claustrophobia is a classical stuck-in-the-middle example - with that great quality they should have pushed a bit further - more rules, more miniatures, more tokens, more expensive, but complete. Or.., .. I think you get the point Thanks for reading and happy gaming!

Summary: The first expansion for "A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (Second Edition)" offers a shorter 6-player variant of the game. Due to the embattled starting setup it offers a different spectrum of decisions compared to the original. This makes it fresh and challenging for the regular Westeros strategist. The other change, the new powerful house cards, unfortunately offsets these positive aspects by making card knowledge crucial, bogging down the brilliant elements of the game - strategizing and diplomacy. Still, if you are not bothered by the cards - do give it a try.

For me, to put it simply, I would rather play the original 19 out of 20 times. That said and considering the cost of the expansion, I would only buy it if I was on a completionist trip (see philosophical monologue above) or a total fan of the original. Hope you enjoyed the review!

Summary: This game is perfect for people who would like to try out miniatures games on a smaller scale without busting the piggy bank and having to go through tomes of special rules. You have your cool models, some movement with templates, some squad building, some dice rolling... It's a easy-going combo of strategizing, crazy flying, tactical smartness and shear awesomeness! The best comparison would be Han Solo.
