The focus of this Geeklist is to promote discussion among the women here on BGG about why you don't like certain boardgames. Please don't just say it's a bad game. We want to know what you don't like about a game so that others may jump in with agreement or counterpoints on why it could be enjoyable.

This Geeklist is a counterpoint to BGG Women Gamers: A Peek at What Games Pique our Interests where the women voted on their top 10 favorite games. It's currently a work in progress to re-arrange, but hopefully once it's done, women will get on there and discuss why they like the games.

So please feel free to add games and start up discussions. The list is in alphabetical order, so please check for a game before you add it to make sure it hasn't already been added.

Enjoy!

And much thanks to the ladies who helped me organize this and come up with a name for it. I couldn't have done this without you!

First, I must say that I love most Feld games. They tend to rank high for us. But this one...we tried hard to like it, but we could not find the fun in it. It was the first game I traded away. Did we miss something? It was early in our gaming hobby, so it is possible we gave up too soon.

Maybe I didn't get something of this game. I gave up playing it right in the middle of the first time playing it as I couldn't see how this is supposed to be fun.

I know, it's a party game, so I should have known to fly low, but still, after reading the rules I couldn't believe it was so... lame. Every turn, a Red Card enters play, proposing a "theme". All players but the referee play one Blue Card from their hand, trying to match the theme. The referee judges which Blue Card fits better the theme, and gives points accordingly. Then a new turn begins and another player becomes the referee.
So, technically:
a) there is no need to know anything about the tv series
b) points are given accordingly to what is believed to be the best answer (in no objective way)
Lame, lame, lame, lame

This is a weird one for us. The first couple of games, we were like, "Yeah, this is fun!" and then by the 3rd game we were both hoping the other wouldn't want to play it anymore.

We talked about it and we think it's the luck factor...after the initial reaction to the silliness inherent in the game, we realized that it doesn't much matter what you do. The cards seem to drive your actions willy-nilly and you can pretty much play on autopilot. I am hoping I am wrong and that someone with more play time invested in the game can help us over this hurdle.

I have only played this game once. However, I recall that I was not enjoying myself during the game. It is a puzzle that gets more and more complicated for me. The pictures and numbers on the tiles did not appeal to me. With the different colours, it ended up confusing me as the game progressed. I guess I am just not good at puzzle solving

I really thought I'd like this one. We really enjoy Agricola, it's by the same designer, and it has building/resource collection, which are things I generally like. Somehow this doesn't work for me.

We've played 3 times, first 4p, then 2p, finally 3p. Each time I couldn't really get into the game and what I'm building/doing. It seemed to take forever because of that. Am I missing something? Any thoughts?

This is a game I was SURE we'd like. Then we played it. Hmmm. Then we played it again and then several more times. Finally, when we were sure we understood the game and found ourselves still going 'hmmmm' we decided it wasn't for us and we sold it.

Here's what held us back. We didn't think it was fun. The constant trading this for that and that for this to buy that just sucked all the fun out of it for us. It felt like work to us rather than fun. I never wanted to be an accountant IRL and apparently don't want to be one in my gaming life either.

I know plenty of people adore this game and my husband and I were disappointed that we couldn't join the ranks.

I have no clue why this one won SdJ in 2008. There are a bunch of expansions out there so I guess there are people out there who like this game. But I just think it's boring it's just so luck driven because you don't do really anything else but put your cards in ascending/descending order separated by colors.

I know I'm not going to make any friends with this entry...

We bought a few new-to-us 2-player games this past Christmas, and I was psyched for this one - so many people on this forum love this game, think it's great for spouses, etc.

Well, we played it and I thought I just need to give it another try. We played it again, and still, meh. By the 3rd try, I'm thinking, I'd rather play rummy! I don't like the size of the cards, I think the board is unnecessary, and I just feel like I'm playing an irritating card set collection game with 5 suits instead of 4. There are other card games I'd rather play, but for some reason, DH kind of liked this one. laugh

We recently received a copy of Nitro Dice. While it sounded like a good game for us, being euro gamers, I was a bit nervous about all the low scores and reviews. Sadly, our game of it resulted in the same feelings as most others - it just wasn't working for us. Here's my session report on it.

While I could only identify feelings I was having, but husband helped point out why I didn't enjoy the game. The end goal was not rewarding enough for the amount of strategy put in to playing the game. Hand management is the main mechanic, but it also has a neat mechanic in that the damage you take reduces your speed and hand size. So a lot of thought does go in to playing, but moving your die across the finish line was just such a blah way to end the game.

Anyone else experience this?

Hi everyone...,
this game really found it´s destiny in my trash-can!!!
I tried to play it 2 or 3 times - but I disliked it so much that I threw it away without even thinking about trading it or giving it to someone else. I only wanted to get rid of it.
Of course today I woul rather give it to someone who appreciates this game as a treasure!
In my opinion it was very dull - just taking off and putting on tokens.

Since I have a chem degree, this seemed like it could be a fun filler. The cards are groaner chemistry puns, which is cute for about 15 minutes.

I played a 4p game. Basically, you have cards in your hand with patterns on them. You are trying to get the tiles and white/black buttons to match up to the pattern on your cards. Unfortunately, you don't know until your turn what the starting orientation will be so it's basically impossible to plan until your turn. Plus, there's a spatial aspect as to what types of moves you can do per turn and still get the pattern you need. As a result, the game just dragged on and on. I'm fairly sure there is something the designer could have done to make it less of a slog, but it wasn't for me as it currently plays.
