A bit of an economic slant to game night tonight with Age of Industry and Money in play. A bunch of first time plays as well. Jim got to play his OrcCon purchase Ticket to Ride: Asia (which of course was also new for Christy and David), Rhett played Roll through the Ages for the first time, Money was new for Christy and perhaps Jim, Age of Industry was new for Wayne, Rik, and Richard, Small World was new for Christy, and Discworld was new for Marius. You should join us for new and familiar games!!

We play games on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to about 10:00. If you are in the greater St. George area. You are invited to join us. We'd love to have you!

Our thanks to the Washington Branch library for hosting our game nights. It is a great venue with lots of room and very good light. For information on how to join us check out our Yahoo Groups page. Here is the link:

Wayne has wanted to play this for a while. Rik as well. Richard was an innocent bystander who was invited to play (he is new to contemporary strategy games and has been a VERY quick study). Marius and I have played before although this time we played the East Coast USA so the first time for Ships. This game always has a bit of a slow start with new players as explaining the rules makes it sound more complicated than it is. Apparently I taught the game well enough as first timers Wayne and Rik finished 1st and 2nd.

I don't really know anything about this expansion so perhaps the players can fill in some details on the play. It is neat that Ticket to Ride has moved into expansion maps in a serious way, the basic game is clearly a great one. Congratulations to Christy on a nice win.

Rhett, Ellen and Alex all arrived a little after the other games had started. They selected RTtA as a short game to tide them over until one of the longer games where finished. Again, no comments or details about the game on the game report but perhaps one of the players will fill in the details.

I'm proud to have the first edition of this game and glad that Christy, Jim, and David decided to play. I think it is the first time it has been played at Saint George Games when I have not been the instigator. If you haven't used this for a filler, you should. It is a neat auction game with some very interesting mechanics but it plays quite quickly. In this game David managed the Money best!

With two players leaving for the evening the four players from Money and Roll Through the Ages teamed up for Small World. Christy, David and Alex had a very close game with only four points seperating them at the end of the game. Unfortunately for them ellen was more than 20 points ahead of them and won handily.

Wayne suggested that the three remaining from Age of Industry play a "quick" game of Discworld. Almost two hours later the "quick" game concluded. We went all the way through all the cards without a winner (actually to see if Wayne or Marius would meet their victory conditon as I made the fairly significant tactical error of revealing my victory condition). It turned out that Marius was playing the Lord Venitiari card and his victory condition was getting all the way through the cards so he won!
