The Game On! Game Group had our twice a year all day game day. We had about 50 people come out for 12 hour of gaming goodness.

There is not a master list of what was played . . .at least not yet. If you played in a game then add it. In the description recount your gaming glory (or shame) in the comments feel free to offer your insightful analysis or just continue trash talking.

We had a lot of fun, as we continued to Game On!!

I started the night with a full 8 player Memoir'44 Overlord game. We played the Cadets of Saumur scenario. I led the French side as the commander and my wife led the German side.

In this scenario the Germans were crossing a river and trying to capture several objectives, while the allies had to hold the ground. The German center mostly filed units to the flanks, while shooting across the river at the allies. The German left was very conservative, where as the French right was very bold. This meant the French side had big wins but they all came at a price.

As the French we ended up getting a lot of the special cards including really good ones like "Behind Enemy Lines" and "Ambush". The Germans countered this by taking full advantage of the blitz rules and using a lot of recon 1 cards as air power cards. The French left flank especially suffered form this.

The Germans got off to a big lead, but a couple of big turns began to swing it back in the other direction. It was interesting because both sides felt like they were getting beat. It came to a French turn and the Germans were up 11 to 10; first to 12 won. I played "Their Finest Hour" which allowed for several units to be activated. I saw a way on the left flank that we could win, but it would require hitting a single infantry with a single die roll. I consulted with my general, and he went for it. His first attack succeeded, but it was a much safer one. The second one was the one where he only had one die.

This was very much a stand up dice roll and all eight of us watched with baited breath to see it come up retreat. However, the German unit was already on the baseline so the retreat became a hit and the French won the game.

It is also worth noting that my normally laid back wife, really got into this game. In almost 14 years of knowing her, I do not think I have ever heard her trash talk that much in a game. She also foolishly made a bet that the loser had to do dishes for a week.

This game was played multiple times by various people throughout the day.

The game I played was a four player game. I got off to an early lead, but then two other players caught up and then passed me. We got in a situation where three of us had three cubes, and Cody had one.

He declared the comeback train was rolling through, and it was because two rounds later we all tied at three. In the last round the comeback train derailed as he was eliminated. Another player went out when they were forced to discard the princess, and I got the final player out with a good guard guess, giving me the fourth cube.

Cody and I taught this much loved game of ours to a couple of new players in a five player game. We had two Klingon ships on patrol be attacked by three rowdy Orion Pirates. Despite having one less ship, the Klingons had like a 7 point ship advantage.

This was a really good fight, with some really good maneuvering and a lot of combat. It was a really even battle, but then one of the Orion ships ended up dead in the water. A couple of turns later, I made a tactical misstep and found myself in the same boat. With two pirate ships disabled, the third hightailed. The Klingons were bloodied and burning, but they won the day.

My wife and I played this game with Dan and taught it to Ethan. Dan masterfully was able to play cards just right to claim both point markers in some high point cities. However, he did not get many face cards. My wife got a lot more points from faces. The two of them actually tied, but Dan had the tie breaker and got the win.

We played a full six player game of this one. Four of those six players were new to the game, and despite that we finished the game in just over four hours (after rules explanation).

Several of the new players spent the game really exploring it and trying to fill out possible strategies. John, a veteran, made a run for the center and got it around turn five. Dan, one of the new players, found himself surrounded by alien ships. He focused on building up ships to take them out and had some fairly impressive interceptor gunboats.

I kept exploring in one direction, and this created a string of systems that were only accessible from my homeworld. I build a defense minded fleet, turtled, and built monoliths.

The last turn was a hectic one. Kathy and Kalen, the two sisters, got engaged in a huge fight tying up all of their ships. Dan invaded the center system to get it from John. I took advantage of this, came out of my shell, betrayed my alliance and captured Andrew's Monolith and Kathy's home system. When the dust cleared Kalen's big attack failed and Dan successfully held the center. He needed those points because he won with 36 and I was just behind him with 34 points.

We played a full five player game of this with just the base set. Only Scott and myself had played before.

We went through slowly acquiring cards and planets. Andrew torpedoed Nate and David's strategy be getting the Core World they wanted. I managed to get the Core World that gave bonus points for starfighters, which worked out because I had been buying starfighters through the game for that purpose. I do not remember the scores, but that worked out for me because I got the win.

Keith, Dave, Eric, and Jeremy played this new Stefan Feld Game. There was no definitive leader most of the game, though Jeremey started to pull away at the mid point. In the end I got the win through a pile of jewelry and completing all of my available tasks both leading to a lot of endgame bonus points.

Keith, Dave, and Eric played this time travel game. I had no idea it could be so cutthroat with people stealing technologies and preempting them as well.
I trailed the entire game until the last round where I was last player. That turned out to be an advantage as I was able to make a big surge and come from behind to win.

Apparently a pirates life was not for me.

Greg and Kalen both set to the life of a "Privateer" as Ben and I tried to earn an honest living.

Ben was a heck of a businessman and managed to finish with the second most glory.

Kalen terrorized the seas until I cowardly called in a naval man of war to do my fighting for me. The French navy set her back and slowed her progress.

I in the meantime wallowed in ineptitude. I was a poor salesman, a shoddy seaman, and managed only 3 glory points for the entire game.

In the end, Greg's filthy pirate scourge secured victory despite running afoul of two naval ships in the same sea zone and losing his Frigate. He simply grabbed the nearest dinghy and with pure guts and salt water blood in his veins managed to grab his final glory points.

David also brought his copy of this. I won the first two races, and managed to get 4th in the third race (only because the jumps wiped out half the field). And I won the game.

If I had been thinking faster I would have named my horse "Secreviolet".laugh
