Best pimped boardgame of the month, April 2013, 32nd edition

How to submit an image of your pimped boardgame?

Just add a geeklist item, where it asks for a ImageID add the number of your photo there. Use [imageid=xxxxxx medium] in the body of the List Entry, where "xxxxxx" is the ImageID number, to show the image at a reasonable size as that helps people judge your image better, and make sure to remove the space. If you have questions please geekmail me and I will help.

Rules:

1) You can submit up to 3 entries.

2) Each entry can contain up to 2 images.

3) That image(s) has to be one of your own. If you like a pimped game of another user, please ask for permission to submission.

4) The image(s) was uploaded during the month in question.

5) Images from your User Gallery are eligible, and images from any other Gallery.

7) It is possible to include a link to a geeklist or a thread, where you find more details about the pimped boardgame.

8) Users may vote for (give a thumb up to) as many entries as they wish.

9) Winners will be declared when the next month's list goes up.

10) In case of a tie, the prize will be split equally among all the tied people.

11) I will randomly reorder this list so that the first-come first-thumbed effect is lessened.

Prizes

Three will be awarded:

First place:

50 bag + microbadge golden teapot mb

Second place:

25 bag

Third place:

10 bag

extra prize (each thumb up giver):

5 bag randomly one person, who gives this list a thumb up.

So make sure to give this list a thumbsup so that we can keep this list on the front page as long as possible!!! You have the chance to win bag. And there will be more participants -> more pimped games to see!!!

All the pieces are hand made from wood by a friend of mine, and hand painted by me. All order tokens are 1 inch double sided wooden tokens, and the spice (power) tokens are 3/4ths inch wood. Instead of power tokens, you have Spice tokens. The houses are all renamed after DUNE houses, and the cards are all characters from the movie, books, and TV show. All cards are double sided and in penny sleeves.

You have Platoons instead of Footmen, Tanks instead of Knights, Carryalls instead of Boats, and Atomics crews instead of Siege Engines. The seas and oceans are now the Open Desert, accessible only by Carryalls.

Set up for a 6 player game.

Both boards and the six player overlay is laminated and durable. I'm debating cutting it into thirds so I can glue it to a folding board, but it looks SO SHINY! I also have the Storm of Swords board too. I have all the bits in plastic boxes that I found at the Axeman. (I love that store) Each player gets their own plastic box of bits. The cards are all stored in another box, not dissimilar to how one would store Magic cards or Baseball cards

Some scratch-built pieces to use as redoubts for C&C: N and ramparts & city walls for C&C: A. Cut and notched on a cheap band saw from plywood hexes used for terrain and then sanded glued and stained.

The game consists of a nice board, some nice cards and a three boring minis. I decided to paint those. In 2 of 3 cases the colours were given my a card that showy the mnis.

This is an Ascending Empires board that I built. I started by constructing a mortise & tenon frame and topped it with two layers of 3/16 inch plywood. Covered with flat black paint, touched with glossy white and red stars clusters, followed by several coats of polyurethane. The bottom is lined with felt to protect tabletops.

I painted my tower a little and gave everything a wash of diluted paint to age it convincingly. Also the sails and most wooden parts (woodgrain on canons, treasure chests). Note the algae that grow at the foot of the tower from it being immersed in water all the time.
I also painted the coat of arms to go with the green and yellow tower flag.

The upgrades to my Elder Sign kit started out slowly, with feet for the clock.

But they took off when I made my CUSTOM GLOW-IN-THE-DARK REVISIONIST NEO-ORTHODOX LOVECRAFTIAN ELDER SIGNS. (After grumbling about the Derlethian originals.) Here they are, keeping Yig down and out:

After that, there was nothing for it but to go whole hog. I got dice to replace counters for doom (above) as well as sanity and stamina (below), and AH figs to take the place of the investigator counters:

For the curious, there is also a May photo of glory in storage.

I've had a creative month!

This is a Dice Tray that I built for my wife! It is constructed from driftwood that we picked up off the beach a few weeks back while on a walk with the kids. I left the top edge natural to maintain the driftwood look. Red felt lined, oil finish and polyurethane top coats.

This is a deck-building wargame that takes the engine from A Few Acres of Snow to a whole new level and uses the First Punic War between Rome and Carthage as a back drop.

Like Acres, right now, the game is using cubes for fortifications, discs for developments (cities), and black discs for fortifications, though that may change. Right now, it is in the playtesting phase.

I pimped out my copy by using houses and hotels from Monopoly and fortification pieces from Conquest of the Empire.

I used the catapult from Conquest as a marker to signify the location of a battle as well.

The game also has fleets and a certain card ("Corvus") allows the Roman player to add infantry units to his fleet, to go along with leaders and ships. The ships are represented by cubes and the other units are the cards placed in the location. I wanted a quicker way to instantly ascertain fleet strength, so I used more Conquest pieces, namely the triremes (ships) to represent each ship in the fleet. Infantry units represent infantry. The leaders are represented by the "general" unit for the lesser general and the "Caesar" unit for the supreme general.

Finally, I used the coins from the game to show how much money each player has, because the coins definitely fit a Roman-theme for the game.
