Yesterday I put together a list of the games from 2012 I like best: My Top 20 Games from 2012.

Today I will present to you the games that disappointed me the most in 2012. Some of them are really bad, some just did not match my expectations.

A special price goes to all the kickstarter games that should have been delivered in 2012 and that din not rech me until now (June 2013).

These are: Shadow Days (est. delivery date august 2012), The Manhattan Project: Second Stage (est. delivery date november 2012) and Pixel Licoln (est. delivery date december 2012).

Yes, Boss Monster: The Dungeon Building Card Game (est. delivery date febuary 2013) and Get Bit! Deluxe (est. delivery date january 2013), allthough I backed you last year and you have not arrived yet, you belong on next years list since you disappointed me this year.

This is not a bad game. I did not rate it by now but I suppose my rating will be a 7 which is better than OK. Nevertheless I was disappointed. Everything I read about it before sounded like this game would be a real serious simulation but in the end it is as much a simulation as the expert version of Formula D. If you risk something you have to roll dice and might receive a special damage. Too much damage and the performance of your car get worse. In the end the luck of the dice rolls will decide most games which is not what I expect to see in a simulation.

The simulation part of the game

The problem...

This is not a bad game either. In fact it is a pretty good Euro. BUT it was hyped very much because of its high amount of innovation. The wheels are nice and they make the bookkeeping more easy but in the end they are just tracks on which every pawn advances. Therefore I was pretty disapointed by this otherwise good game.

Ok, after two good games that disappointed me let's take a look at some bad games.

Gauntlet of Fools has two Phases which I call the good phase and the bad and ugly phase. At first you boast to met a certain hero and weapon combi, i.e. you volutarily take some disadvanatages to get the best hero. This is plain fun but it only lasts a few minutes. In the second phase all players encountern the same monsters and roll dice to see if they beat the monsters or not. This phase last much longer...

Boast tokens = the fun part of the game

Rolling dice to defeat these monsters: less fun than it sounds

many will disagree with me and yes, I only played it once but I think this game sucks has some major flaws.

The game is semi-cooperative which is not a bad thing. The bad thing is that as long as everybody does the best for the team it is nearly impossible for the team to loose, i.e. the game becomes about beeing the overall winner but - duh! - you do not know how to gain VPS until the game is over...

The problem is the hidden card ever player has. It says when the game end and what is worth VPs.

I got this one as a gift because of the look.

Each turn you play a card in front of yourself or in front of another player and as soon as someone has 6 card in front of him everybody scores the points the cards in fron of him. OK, there are a few more rules on playing card but id not see much game in it.

Another game that stretches the meaning of the word game. On you turn you either reveal a card and but it on the pile or you say that the value of one sort of cards in the pile is 11-13 and look if you are right. In the end it is only about remembering the values of the card in the pile.

Caro has real nice wooden playing pieces. It is an abstract game. On your turn you place one tile and score point for the tiles it connects to. This does not sound bad? Well, it is not but I cannot imagine anybody playing this. For a family game therenis to much calculating (and tactic) and for a serious game it is way too simple.

This short game is pure luck. Draw the right cards and you win, draw the wrong cards and you cannot do anything. While a high amount of luck is generally OK for a short game I cannot see any fun in this game.

I am not a fan of abstracts but the original Einfach Genial/Ingenious board game is a good and quite tacticle game.

I am also not the biggest fan of dice games but I have a lot since it is fun to end an evening with a quick dice game. Push your luck is the important mechanic in these games.

This is the desciption of the game here on BGG. "On your turn, you roll your dice (which feature a differently colored and shaped symbol on each face) and score as many points for each symbol on the rolled dice as there are symbols on the dice in front of the other players. You can roll at most three times, so knowing when to keep your result or gamble for a better one is the difference between victory and defeat." The problem is that in at least 90% of the cases it is obvious which dice you have to reroll, i.e you are played by the game.

This is the worst game I played for quite some time. It is a 4X game and on the first glace it looks pretty strategic. It is not. This is the most complex version of "highest number rolled win". Everything you do requires a dice roll. You want to take money from the bank? Roll 2d6 and see how much you get. You want to sell goods? Roll a d6 and see how much you are allowed to sell. You eant to fight...

Despite the low quality of the component it looks quite good
