A comment I saw in another thread about the longevity of certain games (Chess, Backgammon, etc.) triggered me to consider which of today's games would still be played in 100 years.

So, which games will still be around (and being played) in 2113? Vote by giving a thumbs-up.

Current placings:

1) Go
2) Settlers of Catan
3) Liar's Dice

Settlers has punched into the mainstream. I think it will go the distance.

Pseudo-chess like so will perhaps have the legs to survive another century!

I know this isn't rated very highly here on BGG and is usually considered a children's game but this is another one with a long pedigree.

Leaving aside obvious ones which have already proven their longevity for many centuries (Chess, Go, Shogi, etc), this fairly modern abstract game Hex (1942) seems likely to still be played in 100 years:

* It's got extremely simple elegant rules and deep gameplay.
* It has been published in various editions by various publishers.
* It can even be played with paper and pencil (pieces don't move).
* It is popular at many online game sites.

I'm surprised that Carcassonne hasn't been mentioned yet. I think it has a very strong potential to survive.

It's still played after 50 years, I'm sure it'll still be played in a hundred, barring the collapse of civilization.

It's not going anywhere. It will be time for the 200th anniversary edition.
