Games Played at Southampton on Board on Monday 1st July 2013.

Wherein despite the absence of many regulars our numbers were still many (11), Adam bid farewell as he headed off for mission "2 Adams in Asia", and Chris got utterly utterly completely slammed by the Kakerlaken.

devilThe Minions of WIN:
* Tim
* Russ (Morgana)
* Mark (Assassin)
The forces of good:
* Chris (Merlin)
* Tony (Percival)
* Gemma
* Adam F
* Luke
* Jason

A classic case of everyone will arrive whilst a filler is explained and therefore almost the entire group plays a filler when perhaps other games could have got started.

With a quick explanation from Adam, the game kicked off with us all sat around the table with our eyes shut, led by Russ, some thumbs went up, some down, or was it up? A quick discussion and confusion around Modred/Morgana/Percival, and eventually we all finally opened our eyes again, without being entirely sure if the right people had seen the right things; We continued nonetheless!

After an initial ponder over the general trustworthiness of Australians, Adam's King set out on an uncontested mission with Lady Gemma and Sir Tim, leading to an abrupt failure. Was the king himself complicit in this wrongdoing?

The next few missions resulted in a mixed bag of success, fail, success. With the game poised on the outcome of the final mission I agreed to send Gemma in place of myself, and Adam's theories (using a small amount of "Will logic") paid off as the mission was a indeed a success, the forces of good had prevailed it seemed....

Sadly not, both Tim and Russ seemed certain Merlin had done enough to reveal himself, and taking their better informed advice, Mark chose to assassinate Chris, thereby taking the Minions to victory!

Thanks to a Rahdo run through both Tony and I had a reasonably good understanding, and Mark covered everything well enough that Russ grabbed a healthy win.

It would be fair to say that a rapid succession of events had the game playing us for the first few rounds as we accelerated through various government interventions, that left us without our trains, and therefore without that valuable third worker.

Various contract cards saw us all committing to reasonably differing strategies, and a fair amount of fog mid-game presented an opportunity for the surveyors to make their way from station to station.

Tony and I both knew that we were lagging behind and it was hard to tell whether Mark or Russ would make the final points grab necessary for the win. Russ decided enough was enough and he laid those final few tracks, leaving the rest of us with not much to do on our final turn.

Thank goodness it was after the watershed, I don't know what sort of nastiness befell the blood bowl, but it most certainly saw the F-word used as noun, pronoun, verb and adjective at various points throughout a brutally fought match, which I believe was won, to his surprise, by Adam.

Snowdonia having played more quickly than expected, we managed to squeeze in this charming filler. This is my second play and I'm still a fan, perhaps not so when Russ is playing though, the man is just mean I tell you, mean!

Russ: 225

There was only one loser, and one loser of EPIC proportions: Chris managed to collect three of every creature, yet somehow his downfall came from an empty hand, not from a set of four.

Ben's first play of Love Letter reassuringly demonstrated what a great job Sam had done explaining the game, as I never once saw favour with the Princess, not once. Both Ben and Sam had two tokens of affection, and it seemed her majesty was torn between the two suitors, but alas there was only one man for her, and her remaining affection poured repeatedly into Sam's welcoming...err...lap?

A quick trip down the mine with Russ's recently acquired Saboteur 2. The miners it seemed prevailed, despite their best attempts to disrupt their fellow dwarfs.
