Once we realized our FLGS had a MtG Pre-Release event (so tables wouldn't be available), I offered to re-locate a few of us to the arena (our usual venue).
Word got around and 4 of us turned into 12 of us. And a few hours of gaming turned into 9 hours of gaming (for many of us)! Die-hards! That's how we ROLL in NWI. cool

--------------------------------------

The second half of this list will serve as the re-cap of Monday, July 15.
devil A/C problems at the arena forced a rare Game Night shutdown. A few still turned up, but most wisely set-up off-site game sessions, mostly at folks' homes and Tenth Planet (our FLGS, mentioned above). Those who went to other sites, please post your games below using "Add Item" and give us a little review of your session(s)?

It was like a sownah in here. tantaj:caravan

Jesse and I got things going early Saturday.
I forgot how much I liked this game. A little thinky for a dungeon-crawler, but very satisfying as you puzzle out your best move(s) each turn. I jumped out to a quick lead after frying his wizard with the Fireball Wand, but he came back quickly, twisting the dungeon into very inconvenient patterns for me... yuk

Lansing Rob turned up during DT and watched us slug it out. Then his Mrs followed, so Jesse offered to teach us maybe the best 4P filler game out there. Very fun, quick, just backstabby enough to whet one's appetite.

4 Affection - SCOTT*, the Princess clearly liked me the best.
3 Affection - L.Rob*
3 Affection - Kate
2 Affection - Jesse

* the final Token of Affection was own by tie-breaker (most points showing) on last round of last hand!

I lied. THE BEST filler game out right now is the Spiel des Jahres (German for Game of the Year), HANABI! This great, simple, CO-OPERATIVE card game with an unusual twist on card-holding has been a huge hit at NWIBGA. And rightfully so!

We caught a mistake, which unfortunately puts an asterisk next to all previous plays. yuk
The rules quite specifically state that when giving a clue, you must give FULL information (in past we allowed "that's a ONE", even if the player had more than one ONE). Made the game, esp clue-giving a step harder! shake

We did manage to produce an "excellent, crowd-pleasing display" (16)
KATE, JESSE, L.ROB, & SCOTT cool

Others began to flow in and many titles were offered/discussed. BUT we decided to be nice (for a change) and oblige Jesse with a play of his favorite Anime Werewolf rip-off game. (j/k, we all love it, too!)

RIGO - WINNER as (N)Brian (green), by killing a 12hp+ character (Jesse)
ANTONIO - survived as (Sh)Werewolf (white)
JEFF - survived as (H)Fuka (orange)
ROB T - survived as (H)Ellen (blue)

The Dead List:
Ryan St - 1st out as the (Sh)Unknown (red)
Kate - 2nd out as (Sh)Valkyrie (pink)
Scott - 3rd out as (N)David (yellow)
Jesse - Rigo's last kill as (H)Gregor (black)

Fun game, as always. Lots of item snatching, lots of attacking (once they got over their hang-ups...sigh), and the usual level of mistrust & accusations. devil

After a brief food break, we broke into 2 tables. Ryan offered to teach Automobile. I played Brian's copy last year and recalled it being pretty good. We stumbled over some rules (and had copier probs trying to make cheat sheets from bgg), but still managed to finish in about 90 mins.
Went well, but games like these are a clear indication of why my RL finances are in such disarray... ugh.

Since Ryan refused to play RoboRally gulp he got a game of Sentinels going.

First match up was vs MISS INFORMATION in the Realm of Discord (WON)
Used: Base + Shattered Timelines exp

MIKE as CHRONO-RANGER - ended with 14hp
RYAN as FANATIC (promo) - ended with 10hp
BRIAN as TACHYON (promo) - ended with 11hp before dying along w Miss Info(?)
They took Miss Info out, but Tachyon paid the price.
-------------------------------------------------
They played again, this time vs LA CAPITAN in Time Cataclysm (LOST)

The Fallen:
Brian as Tempest
Mike as Chrono-Ranger again
Ryan as Young Legacy (promo version)
They got her down to 44hp before falling. (is she that tough? I haven't faced her yet.)

Steve H has been demanding to learn how to have fun on the factory floor, so we conceded. TJ even turned up! So we had a fun 4P, single board, 4-flag race. Jeff randomly drew Cannery Row as our board

and the Smashers had their way with us for awhile... Steve ended up running away with it, despite TJ breaking off and trying to chase him. We played a few house rules for spice (damage from running into walls, Option Cards more often available).

STEVE H as ZoomBot (red) - touched all 4 Flags ninja
Scott as SquashBot (yellow) - touched 1st Flag only cry
Jeff O as SpinBot (orange) - never touched even 1st Flag shake
T.J. as TwonkyBot (purple) - never touched 1st Flag either yuk

MONDAY, JULY 15 - Regular Game Night canceled due to heat (it was 87 in lobby!)

Frank turned up, disappointed at all the "so-called diehards" who are afraid to sweat (he works in a warehouse, says we're all wimps). blush

The one fan helped, but it was still rough.
Anyway, Amanda turned up as we were setting up some T2R. Frank had only ever played USA, Amanda was a total Newcomer (i'm not supposed to say "noob" anymore, after the reprimand). George, a T2R Veteran came in as we were in middle of Turn 1, so we dealt him in!

We played Legendary Asia, a map i'm liking more and more. The decision whether to take a color route w a Mountain (Pit of Despair) Penalty vs a generic grey route is an interesting one. Regardless, I was a bonehad (i blame the heat) and didn't notice something was already blocked before taking TWO Destination Tickets that I couldn't possibly get to... Then, my attempt at Plan B was thwarted when I realized I wouldn't have enough trains to DO Plan B. So, Plan C it was. But not enough time. Hence:

124 - AMANDA (blue)
106 - George (black)
102 - Frank (red)
37 - Scott (yellow)

(I'm guessing at scores, but think that's pretty accurate)
Newcomer Amanda destroyed us!

George then offered to finally teach me Galaxy Trucker! Frank was new too. Amanda and George have played alot.

I had read the rules last year when Jesse and I had talked about playing it. I've read alot about it. It always sounded like a game I would like.
All that said, it STILL exceeded my expectations. surprise
A 9.5 rating (only because i've only played it once so far) on BGG from me. One of the most FUN gaming experiences i've ever had. George taught it great (with Amanda's help). Frank and I stunk at it, but so many memorable events. And as complex as it looks, it really isn't. Very straightforward, even intuitive gameplay. Plays quick and it is just hilarious what crazy stuff happens to your Destined-For-Hopeless-Destruction-Starfreighter!! Can't wait to play again!

We chalked it up as a Learning Game, so didn't keep score. But I think Amanda won with George 2nd?

As a result of the A/C pooping out, a few of us met up at Nick's mostly to get the 6 player Serpents and the Wolf out on the table! And it was great!

Rob813 - Cylon treachery!
Alan
Steve H
Nick
Decatur
Wheeler Bob

Decatur and I had the 2 new houses, and they were a ton of fun. Mine was the house with the Wolf logo and his was the Serpents logo.

Decatur's new ability was that whenever the bank pays out to ANY PLAYER via a card, he gets some money as well. VERY awesome. Mine was exhaust 3 guards to take one from the discard. Was pretty sweet, as I had 9 guards at one point.

Everyone beat up on me just because I had a lot of guards. I mean come on! I only had 6 influence, I was totally not the biggest threat.

This gave Alan and Rob813 time to gather influence, but Alan was hit with a flurry of schemes to take him down far enough to where he was no longer a threat.

And we got to see a 4 person fight in the arena (A primus) which only happens if the host has over 10 influence and wants to do it. Was hard to keep track of, but man was it epic. And it snared Robbie the win.

Great game!

SarahEllen invited us to help at her Teen Group's Summer Reading Event at the Hebron Library. She gets great prize support, many are boardgames. The kids have to complete a quest (a murder mystery this time) then get to pick from the prize tables. She also gives more prizes to the kids who read the most pages (top kid read 7,000 pages this summer!)

The prizes/games that were chosen:

Love Letter
Smash Up
Guildhall
Crappy Birthday
Say Anything

So, we played them all so the kids would know how when they took them home!

I got a table of 10-12yr old girls. One had won Love Letter and wanted to learn it. The NWIBGA is notorious for backstabbing, cutthroat, vicious attacking play. These girls could give you guys a few lessons. Wow. Ruthless is the only word for them. (And I loved every minute!) They had alot of fun and after Game 1, as I began to scoop up the pieces and grabbed the box, they all said, "What are you doing? We're playing again!" haha. Awesome. And so we did. Oh, and the youngest ran to her mom when she arrived, saying, "Mom, we have to buy this game called Love Letter!"

Jesse got to teach Say Anything, Smash Up and Guildhall. Another group played Crappy Birthday.

NWIBGA. Helping the Younger Generation drink the Kool-Aid since 2011.

Christie was glad that game night was cancelled. She has been asking for this one ever since she learned it a couple months ago. Quick, interesting variation of Rummy.

I had the upper hand in each of the rounds. We played 4 altogether with me being the first to get over the 100 point win criteria. In the only vote called on who might be the Ripper, I couldn't go out as early as I had planned so she won the 10 points for naming the right suspect.

The ripper never escaped and so the cops won this one. Final score:

Brian 124 winner winner, liver dinner

We also got this "new" game in. 2-player. Interesting "trading" type mechanic. Collecting sets of goods to be able to sell for VP. You can only grab cards or sell on your turn, but not both. You get bonuses for being the first to sell and other bonuses for selling at least 3 cards. And there are also camels in the game that act as a sort of buffer, trade bait to get the cards you want without affecting your hand limit. Game splays best 2 out of 3. I got smoked 2-0.

Christie 2
Brian 0

So I beat her, then she beat me, then we went to bed.
