Whenever I put together a gaming session, I usually go through my collection and pick three or four games that I'd like to play and bring them along. Sometimes I'll grab the games I'm most interested in playing at the time, or I might grab a set of games that have a common theme (like Pirates, Racing or Wizards).

But I almost always also bring along this nice cloth messenger bag I've had for years, which is filled with a whole bunch of (mostly) filler games and also some two-player games in case only one other person shows up for the meet.

Here's what's in the bag currently:

I like the small footprint for this game, it fits nicely into my bag and it's a cool game that I don't get enough opportunity to play. Definitely not a filler, and quite a bit more complex than most of the other games I keep in the bag, but it does play fast and there's a ton of strategic depth. The only complaint I have is that you really need a group who have all played the game several times before it really gets good. Knowing the cards in each color, and the possible combos, is what makes the game great.

I've got the print and play version of this game in the bag right now, and we've gotten a lot of play out of it. I should be replacing it with the actual game in the very near future.

A neat co-op that plays fast and is super easy to teach.

My favorite two-player abstract. Easy to teach, tough to master. Awesome components. I wish I could get a replacement zipper bag since mine got ruined in a spill some time ago. But, a ziplock bag works just as well (though it's not nearly as cool as the original).

This game is stupid, but it's good for non-gamers and can be pretty funny.

It's a testament to the skill of Reiner Knizia as a designer that he can take 8 standard six-sided dice and craft rules for a 10-event game, and make each event distinct as well as evocative of the theme. It's fun for a bunch of players, it plays fast, and you can tailor the length to your needs by playing as many events as you want.

Zombie Dice but with better/more interesting scoring (but a dumber theme). Unless you really like hunting, then the theme is great.

Stupid fun while waiting for more people to show up. There's no real player investment in this game so it's easy to just drop mid-game and pack up so you can break out the real games.

For when we want to play a fast press-your-luck dice game and also a game with zombies. Trophy Buck really is the better game mechanically, but playing zombies and scoring brains is a better theme. Sadly, the dumb cardboard tube this game comes in is falling apart (the plastic top and bottom fall off easily) so usually I have a bag full of games and also all of the Zombie Dice rolling around loose at the bottom. I guess I probably need to spend the ridiculous $10 (almost the actual cost of the game itself) and pick up one of the new plastic cups Steve Jackson Games is selling to alleviate this problem (ans still keep the game in a cool container).
