I can imagine, Kate and William are now playing this game excessively

Got a few bits for this printed ready, hope to make the best use of my summer break - making games!

PROGRESS - UPDATE

Well that didn't quite go as planned - 3 weeks of daddy daycare have put a bit of a dent in my making time, although my able assistant loved sorting the various counters into their bags. That was after she ruined a set by putting them to the sword/scissors when I wasn't looking.

My card-stock killing my punch didn't help either. A brand new punch and it lasted less than 16 tokens!

Finished the basic game though.

Board Game: Dune Express

My wonderful wife bought me a nice box of chocs from a local artisan chocolatier for our anniversary. They are great for game storage and this was perfect for Dune Express, very serendipitous! Last year's went on Aether Captains.

PROGRESS UPDATE

Finished this with minimal problems. I've got a few tweaks and additions in mind for the next few weeks, but its ready to hit the table. Tried the other week but for some reason it got confused with a lead balloon once I started trying to explain it. I was pretty tired though .

Just finished making myself a copy of this game.

I just have to do the finishing touches on the cards and I'm ready to go. Can't wait to play this.

It's been awhile since I did a PNP, so when I saw this and it was all cards, I was like, I can do that! I like PNP games that are just cards, much easier for myself to make.

Ever since I read about the Express / In-a-Tin contests, the idea of having a bunch of games that fit in an Altoids tin has been glorifying my days. So much so that I tried to get a entry in the contests, too. (Still working on that, but the deadline is in two days, so I'll be free to craft the entire rest of the month!)

I've been dying to make some of the entries in this geeklist!

This is a copy I made for a friend - my copy is still work in progress.
The way I've built it was influenced by some past experience and the available resources.

I like very much thick tiles, and in the past I glued the paper onto a 3mm cardboard with under-layer of felt. This was TOUGH to cut! so in this set I've decided to use a 1mm thick cardboard, but to make up for the thickness by using a thick under-layer of false-leather - same type used for sofas.

This came out really well - the sandwich was easier to cut and the tiles didn't move at all when placed. Here's a photo of the work in progress and the tools I used.
From gallery of regex

As for the board: it is printed directly on a 400um thick board that can be accurately described as "cornflakes box cardboard" then varnished. In this case the choice was affected by:
1. I still have no experience in making mounted boards
2. Probably the most important - I work in HP and we are working on a new digital press that print B2 size cardboards for packaging (HP 30000 digital press)... So this what was the most accessible and easy way to go - just 2 minutes work. I also got lucky and got some metallic finish substrate - and the map printed on it looks funky! This is not what seen on the image - since I am not yet sure that it' a good idea to play on such boards

Some more photos:

Boards (3 copies)

Tokens: Printed, glued to 1.5mm cardboard, varnished and punched out - they were resized to fit my punch.

Another (rather poor) photo of the full set.

Happy gaming

An economic game that I might actually get my wife to play due to the cutsie theme - it's printed, just need to get it cut and decide if I want to mount the boards & tokens on cardboard or not.

Summer break isn't over, so another solo PnP to productively fill my free time!

It's a miracle that Airborne in My Pocket wasn't on my radar before. Probably because i thought that this game was going to be published, and that the free version was removed... But it has a lot to like for me: a solo, push-your-luck game with a history theme that didn't happen to far away from here... (well ok, 500km from my home to the beaches of D-day).

I like the game mechanics very much. The tiles are also very well designed, but i found the cards a little bit cluttered. Not that I don't like them, and as a history aficionado I'm really impressed with the background information the designer supplied - but for me all the images of buttons and badges make it a bit difficult to find the information I need...

So I decided to keep the location tiles, but to redesign all the cards and item tokens...

...And I seriously underestimated that job :-) Almost 200 unique cards and a 100 item tokens. For now I've done the base game (with odds & ends) and the Currahee!, Hooah! and Fire In The Hole! expansions. I'm really happy with how it all turned out!

Board Game: Airborne in My Pocket

When I cut and glued the tiles and tokens, I had some foamcore leftovers. I decided to add some atmosphere to the game. I've made little stand-ups for the different figures of the game (allied paratroopers, chaplain, German soldier, German general, French resistance,...), for the different vehicles (Tiger tank, Half-Track, Kubelwagen,... - old Tamiya model boxes helped me finding some good images) and also for some scenery (Bunker door and walls, a Gun for Gun Control...)

Ok, it doesn't fit in my pocket anymore - but still, it's nice to build the game up with vehicles and scenery...

Board Game: Airborne in My Pocket

The complete base game with a redesigned (larger) player board.
Board Game: Airborne in My Pocket

All the different stand-ups and the complete set with expansions.
Board Game: Airborne in My Pocket

I took this on holiday, but didn't end up playing it. Instead, I spent some oddly absorbing hours re-creating the poorly scanned pages in a word processor and pimping the maps in Inkscape. I haven't actually changed anything, so this is less of a re-design and more of a re-mastering. The chits and cards I haven't touched as I quite like them as they are, but I expect someone will do a proper re-design someday and I hope this small step makes that process less arduous.

I have yet to combine all the necessary pages into a single .pdf. I'll post here when I do. That was surprisingly easy using good old "Preview". Files will not be are now not available under the "Zombie-in-My-Pocket-forbidden-re-theme-no-I-won't-give-you-the-files-not-even-if-you-PM-me-and-ask-nicely" non-distribution arrangement.
(see my comment on Tsuro for further obfuscation)

I started working on this before I went to Vancouver for 2 weeks to catsit for my daughter. I'm home & finishing this. Awhile back I found a Jenga clone at the thriftstore. What was neat about it was there was no markings on the blocks. I had seen a Jenga block Rat Hot set quite aome time ago & was in search for just these blocks as I didn't want the Jenga logo. I put together a fish themed sticker set in pink & green from some clip art I found on the net and then printed them out on clear full sheet label paper. I colored the start tile blue for easy identification. They're sealed with an oil based varathane. I'm also in the process of sewing an unlined bag out of some trippy blue fabric. I put a pocket on the bag to hold the pocketmodded rules & start tile.
My finished up set.

Built this very quickly yesterday afternoon, and it plays very nicely. The design is to fit in a tin for the 2013 in-a-tin/express contest, but I built my final version from thicker card for durability, and so it needs a bigger tin than the contest permits.
