I started by refreshing Tim H and teaching new WABA attendees, Matt and Alex Suburbia.

It's a tile-laying, city-building sim. You have to keep your income and reputation up, and the tiles are quite cleverly thematic. If you build an abattoir, you'll make money (especially from restaurants) but no one will want to live near them.

Decisions get tough very quickly.

I did such a good job teaching the game that I came in dead last.

I still had a great time with it, as did everyone at the table.

Matt took the win when I decided to stay neutral in my last move.

Then I taught the same group plus Amy this, my favourite game from 2011.

With five players, three new, it ran a little bit long, but this was an even bigger hit with the group.

It's largely an area control game, where rather than just having the majority in an area, you expel the other player entirely and then they can replace their piece. Plus, there are laws that are voted on every round that reward players for different achievements.

I love this game a lot.

Also, I won, though it was really close - I just managed to pull off one of the main scoring goals in the last round.

Finally I finished with two hands of No Thanks!

First with five (Tim H, Ian, Amy and David) and three (Ian and David went off to play Summoner Wars).

David won the first, I won the second. An excellent, easy and fast filler.

Picked up this maths trade win during very short visit to Claremont.

Immediately broke it out to teach a three player game.

A good fun and high quality KS product

4p game. First time all of us played. I may have been the only one who heard Tim's advice of "play your scoring cards early and often" which helped me just edge ahead from the others at the end. I concur with Tim that this is "what Settlers of Catan should be like."

Warren had kindly offered to teach this one, so, as it's on Yucata.de and looked interesting, Rob and I jumped at the chance.

We settled down to play with a lady whose name has just gone out of my head, knew it a minute ago, and another fellow whose name I also forget. Doing well.

It's a great game! Rob and I had a very close finish, 2 or 3 points in it.

I love the different avenues you can pursue for scoring - I must admit I favour axes if I can get them! Beaut little game.

The other two people wanted to play again straight away, while I would have done, we were hungry and went and had lunch while they set to again, don't know how the second game went.

had rescued Sonia who was ready to flee the whole modern boardgame scene after seeing Vinhos being readied and taught her the much more beginner friendly Carcassonne.

After our lunch, we joined them and another gentleman whose name I don't recall in Carcassonne Hunters and Gatherers.

Myself, Tegan, Mal and Elaine played this to start. You marry into families which enables you to expand their trade routes (by laying down camels of their colour). You get varying amounts of points for having camels on goods spaces that match the goods in your hand. More points if those camels are your own. It's a pretty straightforward game that I enjoy but am pretty terrible at. I came last, beat out by Mal, then Tegan, then Elaine in first place. Mal cheated.

Ahhh Summoner Wars... how I love you.

I had arranged to teach this to Greg, so we sat down as soon as he arrived. This is a fantastic tactical game which pits two (of fourteen) factions against each other. You win by killing the other player's summoner. It has a great spatial element, a decent amount of luck (card draws and dice) but enough ways for a skilled player to mitigate that luck. But the real draw is that the game is supremely balanced while managing to make each faction feel really powerful.

In the first game my Sand Goblins prevailed over Greg's Jungle Elves, but second time around Greg's Jungle Elves won out against my Fallen Kingdom.

Following a quick break for a hand of No Thanks! myself and David sat down to give two of the new Second Summoners a spin. David tried the Guild Dwarves while I chose the Cave Goblins. Both factions felt great but I just couldn't get my forces going against the dwarves' devastating towers. David won a convincing victory through the clever tactic of blowing the crap out of my forces with a mortar.

This game is my joint favourite of any I've ever played, and I'll happily teach it to anyone who's interested in the future.

Terry, Tim and I played this. I have played a lot in the past but Terry and Tim knew enough to get straight on with the game without a rules explanation. In the end my experience made the difference. I do like this game, it plays well with 3,4 or 5 players and plays differently depending on the number of players. The expansion makes the game better but the basic game is still good.

Terry, Tim, Tegan and I decided to knock out a game of this before I had to leave. Terry and Tegan had not played before but it is simple to learn and we were soon playing. The game itself is just a fun excuse to place pieces of coloured string on the table in funky patterns. Sure there are rules and a point scoring system but the real reason to play is to see how the rail network develops and ends up.

Played a 4 player of this brain burner, with Gus as the right wing AUC faction, Dean as the government , Roger as the Drug Lords of the Cartel and myself as the unfortunately named FARC...

Had only played a couple of 2 player games of this before and adding in extra players inceases the chaos and the reqirement to keep an eye on every player to see how they are tracking towards victory.

We played the quick play scenario from C3i magazine, which uses about half the deck but it still took close to 3 hrs to get thru this.

Roger cleaned up as the cartel with 3vps for the win, Govt and AUC both on Zero and the FARC, who ended up as a punching bag on -7.

The board can get pretty confusing at times...

Eric, Rudolf and I played our WABA AGoT Tournament game, with Eric's deck crushing Rudolf (Lannister, Power Behind the Throne) and I (Starke Tully deck, House of Dreams), 15 to 0 to 0. Eric's superior knowledge of the cards and the game were unsurprising factors in his victory. Despite my crushing defeat, I enjoyed playing this game.

Jason kindly brought his copy of a game that I had wanted to play again for some time. We were setting up just when a whole bunch of new people walked in and so we played a 5 team game, with Jason and Dean playing by themselves, I joining with Andrew and the new people forming two teams, one of 3, the other 2 people. With questions ranging from celery to human blinks, Dean won in the end.

For those who haven't played this game, it is a light trivia-based game where the majority of points can be won not from getting the answer but by guessing which of the revealed answers of everyone is the closest to the answer.

Rudolf was the new player in this 5 player, classic Euro-game that involves players competing to get animals into their zoo. At the end of the animal placing, truck taking, and coin spending, Rudolf emerged on top on 22, winning on a tiebreak of 1 coin to 0 over Warren on 22, Elaine on 21, Andrew on 17 and myself on 13.
