Another recent offering from Plaid Hat's booth. Probably worth checking the how-to video they plug on their packaging. (http://www.plaidhatgames.com/news/268) Really an interesting take on the factional struggle that Booker and Elizabeth dance through in the video game.

Plaid Hat's "City of Remnants" was previously tested by friends of the GWJ Conference Call.

Ever find yourself in a White Elephant gift exchange game and wish it were more ... piratey? Consider your wish granted.

Be careful with this one. You instantly lose if you throw up, but some players "survived" only to find themselves sidelined for the next 48 hours.

After some play time, the consensus seems to be that this game runs better with fewer people — possibly a co-op variant of the solitaire mode.

Not an easy game to make, and perhaps impossible to make perfectly, but we're sure glad to have seen it, and for the ways it made us engage with an important time in U.S. history.

A streamlined RPG session on cards, right down to checking boxes on the cards as you level up your character. (One playtester encouraged the cowardly use of protective sleeves.)

"Aliens" meets "XCOM" meets "Dead Space" meets "Space Hulk." Humans are fairly squishy and generally have room to maneuver. Nicely made minis, and a curious mechanic on the alien side that involves nanobots and leveling your gooey troops during a match. Killing them is like nailing jello to the wall with an automatic rifle.
Will also work without the 1" squares game board as — wait for it — a table-top war game.

Cooperative RPG in card form, with a couple neat twists. Also, it's Shadowrun — Erik will brook no protest.

Board Game: Snake Oil
[Average Rating:6.77 Overall Rank:1233]
[Average Rating:6.77 Unranked]

-
"Snake Oil" was one of many card-based party games on offer. This one emphasizes lobbying for your humorous offering.

-
Fast-paced game of starship combat, expected September 2013.

This expansion adds a couple new houses and some interesting dynamics.

Not a heavy-thinking game, but engaging, slightly dizzying, and the inspiration for considering a mixed drink based on chocolate and 99 Bananas.

Mostly, Erik is rather jazzed about the Polish-Soviet War. Yes, we're aware that he's a bit eccentric.

An interesting — and *dark* — flipping of the "Pandemic" script. The world is overpopulated, and the pressure's on to make other nations lose their "surplus" first.
