Do I even have to name it? Probably, in case you think I'm talking about auctions (or deck building, or negotiation, or something). But no, it has to be Roll and Move, a mechanic which brings to mind such classic games as Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders, and my personal favourite, "Yelling at people that they wouldn't know a decent board game if it punched them in the face".

Surely there's something we can learn from even these mind-numbing games? Of course there is. In fact, there are many great life lessons to be learned.

There are some absolutely terrible people in your family, and one of the easiest ways to detect them is the sentence "Who wants to play Monopoly?"

There is no intellectual property so ludicrous that it cannot be shoehorned into a licensed tie-in.

Good deeds will get you closer to heaven/nirvana, and bad deeds will take you further away, but since your actions are all determined by an external force there's bugger all you can do to affect it.

You may catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, but apparently you catch more mice with a Rube Goldberg contraption that usually gets stuck somewhere between the ball rolling down the slope and the diver jumping into the cup than with something with a simple spring-based mechanism.

Putting the die in a bubble that will almost certainly stop working properly at some point is infinitely cooler than just rolling the thing.

In life, it is often great and welcomed to get a second chance. In Trivial Pursuit one is rewarded a second chance by landing on a 'roll again' space. This simply means I have to go through the action of rolling the dice again. I don't feel that I have gained any advantage or that my ability to answer the next "arts and literature" question has improved at all.

Sloooooow down cowboy and enjoy looking like an idiot for longer in front of your friends!
