Some folks collect a certain designer, some certain theme, others go after something more obscure. What is your favorite subset of games to collect within your larger collection?

Feel free to show off your impressive collections, even if they have already been posted!

As a thrifter, I have a modest collection of 3M/Avalon Hill Bookshelf Games. I have found many more in my travels but I am very selective about the ones I pick up - they must be obviously un-played/new in order for me to pull the trigger (since I will most likely not play them all myself). I'm particularly proud of the condition of Executive Decision. It's pristine!

LOVE the elegance of Indonesia. LOVE the gritty nastiness of Antiquity. LOVE the logistical nature of Roads and Boats. Duck Dealer and Great Zimbabwe are next on deck.

Desperately waiting for The Palaces of Carrara, I have recently acquired Trapper, Celtica and The Swarm, which brings my Kramer/Kiesling total to 15 titles. Will have to reacquire Pueblo, which I traded away before I fell in love with their games, with Maharaja: The Game of Palace Building in India being my favorite.

Update: now at 20 K/K titles:

I have not only a complete set of the big box Alea, but also a complete set of medium and small box Alea games.

I also have the majority of the 2-player Kosmos games - not got them all yet, but working on it!

Love my Treefrog collection. Great games, mostly good design (see below) and excellent production - well, at least with the special editions. Have the complete set except God's Playground and Last Train to Wensleydale. The latter was the one case where I just couldn't bring myself to buy the game due to the gulp board. Thank goodness for First Train to Nuremberg.

Looked forward to The Witches: A Discworld Game, and receiving Moongha Invaders: Mad Scientists and Atomic Monsters Attack the Earth! and A Study in Emerald through KickStarter.

Late 19th/Early 20th Century Naval (i.e. Spanish-American War through World War 1)

Latest acquisition that just came in the mail - simple but nice looking DTP effort for $6. I would much rather get my hands on the 1899 published version of the same "action" though, but it would probably cost me a hair more than $6.

Richard Breese's Key Series are my favorite games to collect and the ones I tend to get the most excited about (And X-wing, and GMT games.)

I got Key Harvest on sale on Amazon for twenty dollars, and the box broke when it arrived so they gave me ten back. Ten bucks for that game!! I play it more than most!

I fell in love with the artwork and the style and the simple, but interesting gameplay.

Then Key Market came out, and I knew I'd enjoy it so I made sure to preorder it. I was a little hesitant to spend about 70 bucks to get a game imported (Didn't have as much money back then as I do now.) Definitely not upset now as the game is pretty hard to find!

I have only recently played Keyflower, though I've owned it since it came out. I really like this one too. I have an original copy in shrink, which I guess I'll hold onto. I ordered one for that great deal game salute had to get the expansion as well. I can't wait to try the other new expansions they are releasing for it.

I am always on the lookout for Keythedral, but it's always like, in slightly played condition, or in german, or ten bucks too much or something so I haven't pulled the trigger on it. One of these days!

And I guess you can never find Key Wood. But, maybe someday.

Anyway. Most amazing art in boardgames by far, and the series of games I love the most!

My lineup of GMT games. Besides the fact that I love the games (Paths of Glory, Clash of Monarchs, Twilight Struggle, Here I Stand, FAB: Bulge . . .), the boxes are all the same shape and size. It feels good to see them all lined up with the little GMT logo on their tops. Is that wierd?

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

For the past several years, in honor of my Scottish ancestry, I’m been collecting board and card games with a Scottish theme. My “Master List” currently has 96 games on it (91 if you leave off the Monopoly variations), of which I have managed to acquire 41. Actually, it’s 42, because just a couple days ago I managed to buy a copy of Border Reivers from a fellow geek, it just hasn’t arrived yet. (I’m pretty stoked about getting that one, since there were only 100 hand-made copies produced.)

I have a couple of rules for the games I collect. The theme has to be directly Scottish, i.e. set in Scotland or involving specifically Scottish themes; and -- if it’s a wargame -- either the battle occurred on Scottish soil, or it involved distinct Scottish units/armies, with no battles after Culloden Moor, April, 1746. Of course, Noble Celts doesn’t exactly fit that criteria, but if I use my “Isle of Lewis” chess pieces to play, it works. I also have ten different curling games on the Master List, and those could be a separate collection by themselves.

Here are photos of most of them as displayed on my games shelf. The copy of Touring Scotland on the upper shelf is an original one from 1930, with the cool little metal cars. The long green box below that is The Scotch Whisky Game.

On the lower shelf, the whitish game above Britannia is an original copy of 100 Pipers: Battle of the Clans. The large, unmarked white box contains all the rules and chits for Charlie's Year and Highland Quorum. Several of the wargames are in the various plastic bags you see tucked in between other games.

I also have a copy of Gargoyles, based on the animated series, but I'm not sure whether to include it in the collection. The series starts in Medieval Scotland, but quickly moves to modern-day New York where the rest of the series takes place. Currently I'm leaning against including it.
