This mostly private list, along with others reviewing each year, allows me to consider games that we may wish to remove from our collection over time--though I cannot imagine that yet.

This year has some heavy hitters that make the best lists of many gamers.

Though my top 3 picks here are rather close, I have to choose this one simply because it gets a lot of play. It serves as a great gateway and manages to still be fun. Though we may tend to play a variety of the maps now, it is hard to beat this one.

I love this game too but we tend to play it less often. We usually play with 2 (and The Robots expansion) when we do play this. It is a great game that allows for a deeper more involved play deserving its higher ranking.

We love CARCASSONNE and the many variants have made it into our collection. We tend to rotate them equally throughout the year. I loved the 3-D aspect of the wall in this game. Unfortunately, one 4-player game with a horrid case of AP sort of pushed this one down in my interest for a while, but we recently played it again and realized how much fun it can be with the right crowd. (I think 3 is the right number for this one though.)

I have a feeling this Jurgen-Wrede game will make its way to the top of our favorites list.

After playing it a couple of times, it will probably maintain this position in our 2004 overall list as it has pretty steep competition here for a good year of games.

Due to some thoughtful friends, we now have a copy of this little fast-playing card game. It should be a great filler hit when we have 3-5 people around to enjoy it with.

New to our collection but growing in our interest level as we learn the nuances of this great 2-player game.

I picked this up at a discount at a LGS in the early days when we were still exploring eurogames. The Catan connection was important as my wife likes Settlers but we do not have more than 2 of us so this allowed to sort of play a Catan-based game (though it is nothing like the actual game). I do not mind this one much. It reminds me of HUSKUR-DU sometimes and can sometimes be too long.

Another of those games picked up to fill out an order in the earlier days of my eurogaming acquisitions. The unique tile-laying idea was the attraction here. We actually enjoyed our first play of this but were disappointed that some aspects of the game were unused for the 2-player version. That left a bad taste in our mouths that makes it get passed up for other games in our collection. However, it seems to be calling to be played of late.

I picked this up at my local FLGS and actually like the play of this game. I tend to be alone in this assessment. I think the issue here is one of scoring and making sure that the scoring actually works. Too often the scoring does not make sense to everyone which causes frustration. I think it plays better with 3 or 4.

I was looking for a game that was not tile-laying or Settlers-like and had a somewhat more historical theme. This was one of my TANGA experiences and it seemed like a good deal at the time. But, when my wife and I played it, it did not endear itself to her. I think part of the problem was an overly-complicated rule book and the fact that the play did not make much sense. I think it likely plays better with 3 or 4 where there can be more competition for areas. I think we deserve to give it a few more tries yet before passing final judgment.
