I've recently been looking into getting a good WW2 mini game on the table. WW2 is one of my favorite periods of history and I think it would be really great to get some good gaming going.

I also love building and painting models, so I look forward to being able to build up a series of tanks, jeeps, infantry, etc.

There are so many scales to choose from 6mm, 10mm, 15mm and more, also so many systems. I decided to start this geek list to get some opinions from people playing them (both good and bad) and also hopefully get a few additions to this list.

Excellent tactical game where one model = one vehicle or one squad.
Standard games allow to play up to three infantry companies as side, artillery is off board. 1cm = 10m

The game has one double sided quick reference sheet that gives you all the elements to play infantry, artillery and vehicles. The turns are interactive and players activate one unit at the time unless they both pass in which case the turn ends.

It is impossible not to recognize the good elements of Flames of War (which I find boring) or ASL (which I find time consuming) combined into one very streamlined package. From both sets good ideas where taken and the game appears to be floatting with grace above both as an excellent adaptation of ASL in scale and spirit to miniatures.

The rules are very easy to read and understand.

The biggest drawback is that the rules are in French and the author is too busy on other succesful projects to have time to put in motion the translation of the english version.

This one intrigues me, but I can't find a lot of information out about it. A few people highly recommend it, but I think the only way I can get some good info is to purchase the rule book and read it.

I do like that they also made Cold War Commander and Future War Commander, so if you learn and play this game, you can pretty easily pick up and start playing with some sci-fi tanks and minis without having to relearn a whole new system.

From what I understand, the WW2 info is quite extensive in this game and covers many different countries, tanks, infantry, etc.

Crossfire is one of the more unique gaming systems. It came out of a challenge to Arty Conliffe to design a miniatures game that used no measuring tool.

Units are squads or individual MG teams, tanks, guns/mortars. Movement is from one terrain piece to another and players move and shoot until they fail, at which point the opposing player takes the initiative until they fail. Shooting is unlimited except by line of sight obstructions. The design assumption being that the ground scale is such that a game is set within the range of all small arms.

It seems designed for 1:1 play, but can easily be made to accommodate multiplayer games.

This one is the one I know the most about. I have read the rule book and watched a lot of videos online, and they have a massive line of miniatures. So I think regardless of what rule system I go with, I'll be sticking with this 15mm line of minis. There are also some other companies that make awesome minis in this scale as well.

With all of the good stuff I have heard, a few guys here on BGG are not happy with this game and have suggested I look into other systems before settling on this one.

This too caught my eye, but I have too long of a cue of rule sets waiting to be studied and tried. It is a WW2 version of Song of Blades and Heroes, a popular fantasy skirmish rule set.

Although this one is written for the modern era, it is a highly regarded rule set and there are some user-created mods for WW2 era troops in the Ambush Alley Games forums. I hope to try it out soon.

We've been playing this in 15mm for years now. It has the same scale as Command Decision (1 stand = 1 platoon/battery). It has a nice command system that we like better than any other system we've tried. Of course, being part of our long-time repertoire, we've encrusted it with more than a few (often contentious) house rules. Every game includes what we call the "obligatory argument phase." Nevertheless...

I will give it a huge thumbs up for the prepainted minis, I looked at some pics online and dang, those minis look awesome for being prepainted!

Spearhead is another set of rules with platoon-sized units. There is also Modern Spearhead for later conflicts. Again, it's mostly designed for micro-armor, but there are rules for playing it with 15mm or 20mm figures. I think with 15mm, you can still use the same stands as micro-armor but use more infantry figures. Armor and vehicles will of course be deeper.

There are a series of scenario books available as well.
