Phil and Anna came a little bit late and they played one of their new acquisitions from Gen Con. This one really looks interesting. I love the abstracts, but am just terrible at them. Hope to get a chance to try it out soon. Looks very interesting.
Some of the DC Deck building folks move on to this classic Knizia next. Man, I got play this one again. Except the scoring always screws me up in this game. Thankfully, there is a great iOS conversion that does the scoring for you. Patrick ran away with the victory this time.
After Phil and Anna finished up The Duke, Neil and Aaron joined them for Love Letter. I picked up the "collectors edition" of this at Gen Con that has the Japanese art. Think I really prefer the other art style better. Either way, it is a great little game.
Jeff C. brought this new hotness from Gen Con with him and we took it for a spin. Frankly, I was a little disappointed. After all of the hype, I thought it was just "OK". Nothing really wrong with it, it just did not do much for me. Seems like if you get a few of the "best" cards early, (i.e. Don't pay for extra buildings, don't pay when you remove your guy, etc.) you can set up a nice little engine and just go along for the ride.
Now to be fair, I did not win (not even close...way in last place)but the whole thing just left me felling "meh".
I pulled my pre-order figuring that if I really wanted to play, there are a few copies in the game group.
Felt like there really should be more cards in the mix to make every game play out differently, since it seems you will be doing pretty much the same thing game after game. But again, I am no expert.
