German board game magazine Spielerei celebrating the publication of its 101st edition in October 2013.

Subscriptions to the magazine will be available at the Essen Spiel in October from the Spielerei booth B-100 in Hall 3.

Spielerei was launched in 1986 as an internal magazine of a games club which evolved into the Hippodice Games Club. The club is now well known for its successful annual worldwide game authors' competition.

Since the early 90's the Spielerei has been run as an independent games magazine, with no formal relationship with the Hippodice Games Club (except that it's editors are still members of the Hippodice Games Club, but there is no longer any editorial or commercial connection).

In order to celebrate this milestone R&D Games are pleased to announce a special Keyflower promotional tile, the Storyteller.

It is considered that the tile will is self-explanatory to gamers familiar with the Keyflower rules, so there is no accompanying rules leaflet. For completeness the rules for the tiles are as follows:

Storyteller. If this tile is not upgraded, a player places a worker on this tile and then takes either a worker or a skill tile, if available. If this tile has been upgraded, a player places a worker on this tile then takes a worker and a skill tile, if available.

The tile features a silhouette of the Spielereihappy egg’ logo. This is the award that the Spielerei reviewers give to a game that receives it top, number one rating.

A little story from the Storyteller is that the magazine’s title Spielerei means something like ‘playing little games’, but is often used also when you don't take things really seriously. For example if you wanted to paint a wall, but then just do a few strokes here and there - just ‘playing’ with the paint as it were.

Another is the story behind the use of the egg logo in the magazine. The last two letters of Spielerei are "ei" and in German "Ei" is "egg". A simple little play on the words.

The story behind the Storyteller tile can be found on the box side of the Keyflower – the Farmers game box bottom.

Keyflower – the Farmers is the first full expansion for the 2012 BGG top 100 game from R&D Games: Keyflower. Keyflower – the Farmers is being released at the Essen Spiel in October 2013.

In the traditional R&D style, the sides of the box bottom give some background information to the R&D portfolio of games. The box sides to Keyflower – the Farmers also include a mention and some background to the Storyteller tile.
