In my childhood, all I knew about board games were mainly Monopoly and Snakes & Ladders, since those two were the most popular board games in Indonesia.

Imagine my surprise when I found BGG in 2003. It's like a gold mine and thanks to BGG, I've discovered a new hobby: board & card games. Usually I played print & play games at that time (and at that time P&P games were quite rare in BGG) since the shipping cost is very high and there are almost no board game shop here. The boardgaming hobby was tiny in Indonesia at that time, and I think it's only a little bit better now here.

One day in 2005, after playing Barbarian Prince, I thought "hey this game has a cool concept but I want to make something better for myself". From that point, I have made many free print & play game and even has my own website: JD Games.

I printed Adventure of D / AoD in 2010 (means selling it) because I wanted to know "is my game good enough?" and want to taste what it's like to publish a game. What made me really glad was that many players enjoy AOD. Hey it means my standard is quite good!

Tom Vasel: "... a good solid system, and if the production value was higher, I can see it as one of the top fantasy game of the year, easily!"

Right now AoD has been shipped to 25 countries, and I still have some left in stock. By the way, if you want to know, I could reach the BEP after about half a year and until now the profit is only enough to fuel my hobby: to support BGG, to maintain my site, and to buy a few board games. I'm happy with that, since I do very little promotion for AoD.

I've learned a lot in the process, about printing, shipping, etc. But at the end I have learned that I don't enjoy publishing games, so AoD will be my first and last commercial game....

... until I found about the crowdfunding system. After backing a few game projects in Kickstarter, I found that I don't have to publish a game for a long time. Make a project, if successful I print and ship them. That's it. Cool. I can do that. So with a new game in hand after preparing it for a long time, I spent the last two months learning everything I can about KS, I read comments, blogs, articles, etc.

But the more I learned about KS, the more afraid I am. It's overwhelming. At first I think KS is 'put the game here, then wait'. It will be a "wooohoooo!!" if successful or an "oh no!!" if fail, but people said that it's the best recipe to fail a project. Uh oh. It's like facing a giant, and you'll never know who will come to aid you. Retreat? Can't do that, since I've already gone too far (the artwork is done, etc). At least I have to try my best, right?

So I pushed the green Launch button, and get this KS project page.

It's been a few days in the project and I'll stick to the plan: I will print only enough copies to satisfy the KS project (maybe a few more because of the excess printing process, but no more than that). Hopefully I can print then ship GvZ in the next few months.

And the journey continues...
