• A classic 2F card game with plenty of "Take That"? Yes please! Ruthless landlords earning as much money as you can. Tenants move into your houses: the family, man with a dog, odd ones. Tenants dream of getting premium apartment, but most often you offer them low rent flats. Beware of squatters! With the help of various action cards you try to get essential advantages or defend yourself against mean attacks, at the expense of your fellow players if necessary – or even the poor tenants! The player who squeezes the most money out of his tenants wins! Friese's Landlord includes 120 full-colored cards with new tenants, brand-new coins and a fully updated rules sheet.

• 2-4 players. City building, dice rolling. Not sure if it's for me, but may have to pre-order it anyhow. Each player owns a company and wants to develop the city of his own in order to complete all of the landmarks under construction faster than his rivals. Each player rolls one or two dice on his turn. If the number of the building that a player owns matches the sum of the dice rolled, he gets the effect of that building. Then, with money in hand he can build a landmark or a new building.

• Bluffing party game is right up our alley. But does it have a place between Skulls & Roses and Cockroach Poker? 2-8 players. Coup version now available, moving this down the list a little, still checking this out. Trade vessels sail through Straits of Malacca; holding cargo, a temptation for pirates. A fortune can be made peacefully trading with these vessels – as long as they are not looted by others. Players are ship captains – famous captains such as Henry Morgan, Pierre Le Picard, and Sayyida al Hurra – who can trade with these vessels, attack them, or defend them from attacking players; what's more, the Governor of Malacca offers special privileges for those who choose to defend vessels against pirates. Money you earn can be spent on new powerful equipment available on the local market. Malacca is a fast-paced card game based on estimating other players' strategy and choosing the right play and wager. You can best your opponents by estimating their strategy and utilizing it for your own purposes. Whoever acquires the biggest treasure after twelve rounds wins!

• Another potentially good 2 player. New theme, card games are good. First to the pole wins...or if Scott dies, he loses. An asymmetric game for two players, both trying to be first to reach the South Pole. Each player takes different route, with these routes consisting of a path of colored dots. Each player has own deck of 52 cards of four different colors; decks include special cards and cards to slow opponent's progress. On each turn, a player can: 1)Collect face up cards on the board, one card for free or 2-3 cards by first discarding 1-2 cards from your hand. 2)Play cards to advance toward the South Pole, or play cards so that the opponent loses his way. First player to reach the South Pole wins; Amundsen also wins if Scott dies. If the second deck of cards runs out, both players are lost in Antarctica and lose the game.

• Most space games fall a little flat for me, but this might be good for our large group this year. Game of galactic exploration, empire building, conflict, and cunning. 2-6 players playable in 30 to 45 minutes per player. Each player is leader of a Great House. Players explore sectors of galaxy; build up their empire's industrial, political, and martial capacity; employ far-reaching technologies to outmaneuver and out fight competing empires; and perform calculated actions to plot their way to hegemony.
