Perhaps somewhat along the same lines as Innovation-- if not quite as brain-burny-- this card game is one of those brilliant little games that has so many multiple layers of depth. Your playing of what cards along with what you and the rest of the players allow to go to Rome combined with a touch of co-op make this a really brilliant design !! Thanks so much to Juan for teaching as in my first online platyings, I never really GOT it.. now I Do !!

Very close finish as well.. Rome loses with only 3 categories won...

Another new fave to my long list of fave " little" card games with clever mechanics. By ol' FF, Mr. Power Grid himself, we have this wonderful little ditty that mixes a stock market element into a Your Hit Parade/Casey Kasem's America's Top 10 theme. Can't wait to play this again. This also uses what I blather on many entries about is tied for my favorite mechanic -- you must use cards in your hand to cause the value of X Y Z to increase-- but you must balance this by keeping cards in your hand to indeed earn said points. ( As Juan has astutely pointed out we played a number of games with this mechanic this particular gaming evening.)

I didn't plan as well as he did for the final countdown-ing.. but scores for a first playing generally close together. Excited to play this again.

After being so happy to finally get this to the table multiple times in July -- and doing decently--- I was happy to introduce one of my favoirite games of this mechanic to J and AM-- and it was like I TOTALLY forgot how to count and TOTALLY forgot how to play !!
The scores certainly reflect this !!---

Our next game of this similar mechanic was by far the most tactical and the least strategic. This obscure Knizia has its charms though-everyone else however realized in the last round, it's better to start playing defensive rather than just racing to get your designer broken out especially if others are sharing that designer-- hence despite a very close first two rounds--- I end up far back with AM and J finishing close.

Tied for my favorite mechanic these days is Work Placement and while I do indeed love all the " regular" themes for such games ( something medieval, something build a castle, something ancient, something do stuff in a town, build something something blah blah blah ) there is a special thrilling place in my game life for worker placement games that AREN"T these usual themes. (Perhaps the subject of a Geek List? ) This game is something it took a long time to track down that I knew Ana-Maria would be a fan of !

Was so very happy to get this to table and we indeed loved it. I will def need my reading glasses for the cards next time though !! Anyone looking for lighter and not-your-every-day WP theme would probably find this game enjoyable, though there are caveats. The main one is when you place your lady to a place to do an action-- there is more luck than your usual WP game as you are hunting though X amount of cards to keep trying to find a triplet thereof to make a husband for one of your three daughters. This might very well throw any " hardcore" worker placement Gamers.

The fact that your daughters have aspects-- honor, education and beauty-- which get moved around in variables during the game makes for hilarious interaction as well:

" I had to turn my daughter into whore in order to see if her husband was in that pile of cards."

" Juan, you have made 2 of my daughters now out and out morons."

I had a wonderful time with this game even if my early lead was destroyed by Juan and AnaMaria causing my daughters to lose all their attraction aspects. Two early fiancees and I still get destroyed!!! Can't wat to play again!!
