Sorry, this is now closed.

Yup, you read the title correct. I want to give 5 10 people a game or RPG book from my trade lists. I have games I know I will never play or play again, and have run out of room to keep them so I would like to find some of them a new home. Here is the deal, post what game you want and why you want it. On September 21st I will pick the five TEN reasons I like the best and send those geeks the game they want. Heck, I'll even pay for the shipping for them (well, all but one. You know which one I'm talking about. I might need a little help on that one.). If you happen to be browsing this thread and see a reason you like, give it a thumb. I might even take those in to account when picking.

Here is the fine print. I will not ship out side the U.S. Sorry. I know there are a lot of great countries with lots of fellow geeks that can provide shelter and hours of love for these game but, I'll be honest. I'm to lazy to deal with the trials and tribulations of international shipping. Also, I would hate for a $35 game end up costing 70 euros due to VAT or something like that.

So what are you waiting for? Tell me what you want and why.

Hello all, I wanted to thank you all for the thumbs and geekgold. You are all very generous and it is very much appreciated. Now I don't want to offend anyone but too be honest, I don't feel comfortable getting geekgold for this list. So this is what I'm gonna do. Everyone I don't pick will get a cut of the GG collected. I know it's not much, but it's a small thanks for contributing to this list. Those that did donate GG, I understand if you would want it back. If you do, send me a geekmail and I will refund it right away. Thank you all,
Jim

I have received a few geekmails and looking in the comments I see some of the new users are having a problem with adding a item to this list. Here are the directions I have sent out.

1. Open the geek list and on my original post click on "add item"

2. On the next page click on "Board Game"

3. Now fill in the board game name, enter you text and click on "Save"

You should be all set.

Thank you

Turns out this was a bit more popular then I expected. Lots of good reasons for wanting some games. I think I will increase it to 10 people I will give games to. Makes choosing a bit easier.

9/23/13
I'm sorry to be keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. I have not picked any winners yet. O.K., before you all start to throw the rotten tomatoes and such I have a reason. My son and I came down with strep throat at the same time. If you have kids, you know why it double sucks to be sick when they are sick. I did try to start going over all the entrees on Saturday but was having a hard time of it. Now that I have been on meds for a few days and feeling better I can go back to doing what I said I would. I will be going over this list tonight and post the lucky 10 tomorrow. I will then send geekmails to those people so I can get a shipping addresse. Again, I do apologies for the delay and appreciate all of your patience.

Jim

The wait is over and the names have been picked. First off I want to thank everybody who posted to this list and for all the thumbs. I didn't expect this list to be as popular as it turned out to be. Guess that shows you "One man's trash.....". I had a very hard time picking just ten fellow geeks (I did end up picking a handful more than I said I would.) from all the posts. Please don't be angry if I did not pick you. When my collection get out of hand again you might be the one I select. Till then it's back to lurking the posts for me. Thank you all. I think this community is great and I would not have done this anywhere else,

Jim

I'm part of a game club in Pittsburgh that has a convention every year. Back in the early 2000's when there were fewer people and when times were better we would get mountains of games and material for a huge giveaway on Sunday afternoon. Over the years that has gotten smaller, and now it is done as a raffle but not everyone gets something any more. We do all sorts of fun things for people, but last year, I took it upon myself to run a meta game fully out of pocket where people collect different resource meeples for doing various tasks. It was a big hit. The big prize was a couple of gift certificates, and it would go to the person who collected the most different meeples. Turns out that 5 people completed everything and I had a goofy shocking game that determined the winner. I felt kind of bad afterwards since these people were expecting to win at least something, and I didn't have anything for them.

This year, i am doing another contest that is similar, and I'm doing what I can to find used games to have added to a treasure chest (it's pirate themed). Everyone who completes the tasks will get a share of the treasure, thus everyone will at least get something. I have a handfull of games and a couple of dvds, some books, etc. I've been asking for donations and haven't been getting much. I've found a few things at thrift stores, and even bought a few things new.

pirates cove goes well with the theme of the event and I think it just might find a home where someone will enjoy and play it. After all, if people will be splitting up the treasure, there should be someone that wants the game.

I discovered BGG in 2009. One of the first games that peaked my interest was Nexus Ops but then a terrible thing happened. Overwhelmed with the sudden knowledge of all these "new" kinds of games, I lost my gaming identity.

Since my glory days of gaming in the 80's (i.e. high school), my interests have always leaned toward Ameritrash. Nexus Ops would have been wonderful for me but BGG tends more toward the Euro crowd. Determined to embrace enlightenment, I read review after review, bought game after game from the Top 100 and nearly everything fell flat.

Finally, I regained my sanity and decided to just play what I enjoyed playing instead of trying to become more refined and elegant in my gaming selections. By the time I had this epiphany, Nexus Ops was out of print.

I know it has since been reprinted but I far prefer the graphics from the original edition. It is now within your power to make me a happy man and to right a past wrong.

*edit* And like wedgeex says below, I really want to black light this puppy.

(btw, I'm not bashing Euros just pointing out that I should have followed by own compass instead of following the crowd.)

I would love Small World - not for me (I have enough games and I previously owned and traded away this game) but to give to a young friend to lure encourage him into this amazing hobby. It's the kind of game that might be something he'd enjoy, and it might be a small reason for him to become less involved in negative activities. Can receive in the USA.

My main gaming partner(s) are my son and daughter. Great times spent gaming with them. The reason I picked Battle Cry: (Sorry if this story gets long)
This summer, we took a family vacation to Tennessee. On one of the days in Nashville, we had nothing planned for the day. The girls wanted to go on a 3 hour bus tour of the stars homes. My son and I REALLY didn't want to sit on a bus with a bunch of strangers and look at somebody's house from the street. We decided to do something we've never done (and something I've wanted to do for a LONG time), we decided to go visit a Civil War battlefield. We looked up a few that were close by and decided to go to the Stones River Battlefield. It was about a 30 minute drive, and got high ratings. On the way there, we decided to call my Brother-in-law who is a big Civil War buff and find out if there was anything interesting he could share with us about this particular battle/battlefield. To our disappointment, "Uncle John" let us down. He said it's not one he's studied and didn't know anything about it. He did want us to give a full report back to him when we returned to Iowa about what we discovered.
My son is 12 and I was a little concerned about his interest level... would he enjoy walking around, reading signs, etc. He blew me away. He really got into the experience. He signed up to do the Junior Ranger program (since it's a National Park) and earned the patch for that. I liked how this park was set up for the self-guided tours. When you walked to a location, there would be a sign there that would indicate a phone number and "extension" you could pick to hear about the location you were at. I put my cell's speaker phone on and we both got a lot out of the information we heard.
When we got to the area of the battlefield call the "Slaughter Pen", we both had a strange sensation. The hair on our arms stood up, chills down the spine(s), and just a unnerving feeling. It was really surreal. We spent some time in the cemetery there and found a couple of soldiers from Iowa that died there. I took a picture of the markers and we made plans to look them up when we got home (where were they from, etc). After spending most of the afternoon there, it was time to head back and meet up with the girls for supper.
On the drive home, my son wanted to call Uncle John and talk to him about what we discovered. Uncle John was excited to hear from us, because he had something important to share with us!! My son's Great-Great-Great Grandfather fought in the battle of Stones River. WHAT!?!?!? So, on his mother's side, he had a relative that fought in the battle that we "randomly" picked to go visit. Cyrus Cook Miller served in the 15th Illinois Infantry at Stones River. He was later captured outside Atlanta and spent time at the famous Andersonville POW camp. My son was in awe. What a great experience for him.

So, to get back to the main reason for posting this. It would be a fun and educational experience for my son and I to play this game. I must admit, the game would be intended for him, not for me.
Edit: I forgot to add, in the game it's * Murfreesboro--31st December, 1862

Federation Commander is one of my favorite games, so I would love to get a chance to see how the minds that made that game do at making a hex and counter squad based game.

This is my biggest reason for wanting this game though:

He has started playing Federation Commander with me. At this point we have taken on all of the single player monster scenarios. When we play he calls me "captain" and I call him "number one." It is precious and it is awesome!

I think I am on the way to raising a wargamer, and thematically this will be a good game to play with him someday.

Wow, I would love to have this game.

My dad flew in WWII. He however was with the US in the North Africa campaign. Back in the late 70ies I tried to for my pilot slot the USAF. I didn't make it unfortunately; I'm 1/2 an inch too short (Even though I’m taller than my Dad).

Anyway, I’d love to be considered for this game. I could play it with my son & we could talk about it with his grandfather. I could try to get my Dad to play, (he’s 96 now) but he’s not big on board games so I'm unsure he give it a try.

Thanks

I used to play WHFRP (1e) in High School - it was in the second wave of games I discovered (with MERP and Judge Dredd) after the initial excitement of D&D (1e) had led to exploration, and was very likely my favorite combination of setting and mechanics.

To this day I'm a sucker for a percentile based RPG.

The high point of my Warhammer gaming, perhaps of all my gaming, was a 72 hour sponsored roleplaying session where a handful of friends and I got together and raised a bunch of money for Cancer Research. Towards the end of the weekend the GM was on fire, and the climax of the The Enemy Within Campaign Volume 1: Shadows Over Bögenhafen adventure was a thing of creepy beauty, played out in the wee hours, as a full moon rose for real outside our window.

I assume that my well loved copy of WHFRP with the torn spine is still somewhere in my parents' house, 3500 miles away. I assume that rather than believe the more likely reality that it got thrown out years ago.

I've never gone out of my way to take a look at the new edition. I still technically own the original after all. whistle

But I sure would love to see what my old favorite is up to these days . . .

I have eyed this oddity a number of times in auctions but it has always gone out of my reach. I think this would get some play at the game group I play with, especially at a SAGEFEST where once a month we play all day and into the night.

This one should have some real craziness to it and it even comes with three different ways to play it. I can't wait to try them!

Edit: In a shameless attempt to sway you, I'll point out that my birthday will be about a week from when you make your picks so by the time the pack it and ship it, it my well arrive on my birthday!

My niece Leah is one of the members of my game group. She's shy, but opens up during a good game session. Her favorites are fantasy and scifi games, especially the FFG games (Dungeonquest, World of Warcraft and BSG are some of her favorites). If I get this one, I plan on gifting it to her if she likes it (I'm pretty confident she will.) And I'm pretty sure this is the game you're referring to above; sharing postage will not be a problem.

Either way, thank you for the generous offer!

Very generous of you. Withdrawing my submission.

Okay, I want Nexus Ops and here's why.

On December 31st, I made a New Year's Resolution--no game purchases in 2013. 9 months, 10 days, and counting. I am hurting. I enter the BGG contests with no luck. I entered all the dice tower podcast Coolstuff $50 giveaways--no luck. I need a new game! When January 1st rolls around, I'll be ready to checkout on Coolstuff, but I will have to wait for it to ship to my Stateside address and then it will be put on a slow transatlantic ship to Ukraine. So it will probably be mid-February before it arrives on my doorstep here in Ukraine. That's more than 4 months from now! What was I thinking?

I probably would have already broken down by now and bought a new game, but I made the mistake of sharing my resolution with my two daughters (8 and 11) who, with surprising glee, have taken it upon themselves to make sure I don't break my resolution. They're small but fierce.

Finally, Nexus Ops has been on my wishlist for a while. It looks like a great game that we could play together as a family. If you choose me, I will play the heck out of the game. Thanks!

I have a stateside address that you can ship the game to. I will get it from America to Ukraine.

One of my friends is a huge fan of the Castle Ravenloft adventures/books and is my gaming group's longest running DM (and we've been playing together for clost to 8 years). He doesn't have much of a game collection yet, and I think if nothing else he'd love to have some minis to run DND/Pathfinder games with. I'm too broke to buy birthday/Christmas presents that are more than around $10-$15 for everyone I'd like to, but if I had a stroke of fortune and could get it for him, I know he'd appreciate it.

I have wanted to give this one a shot for a long time but no one I know owns it. I live in the sticks and there are no gaming groups or game stores anywhere close to where I live. Can I haz a Quarriors?

I really don't have any clever reasons for wanting this game. I just think that it sounds like a lot of fun to chuck dice around. The 'Q' words all amuse me and I would like to get this one out with my family.

Regardless of if mine is picked, I think you are very generous to give things away. Thanks for the chance.

[Edit: Many others have reasons more worthy than my own for wanting these games. Hopefully one of them can enjoy them.]

I think this game would really go over well with my teenaged sons with whom I do most of my gaming. As the oldest is a senior in high school, I'm not sure how much longer I'll have with the three of us playing together.

Of course, the real reason I want this game is to be able to say, "Quarriors - come out to playay!" (obscure reference to cheesy 1979 movie The Warriors)

Reference is about 1:10 into clip

While it is hard to argue with the aforementioned reference to 'The Warriors' (a classic, to be sure), I also think I have a legitimate reason. My wife will play games, but she really prefers games that involve throwing dice around. So we play Yahtzee a lot, and I was able to get her into Alea Iacta Este. But I'd really like to get her into a game with a bit more meat to it, and I think Quarriors! may be the way to go. Unfortunately, I don't really have any access to anyone to borrow it from to PROVE to her that it is fun, and as I am currently unemployed and job-hunting, continuing to feed our two year old has taken priority over purchasing games. (cue the violins)

Not necessarily trying to take a "poor me" approach, but this would really help me convince my wife to try other games out there, and is probably about the only shot I have of getting her to try this one.

Thank you for your consideration.

OK, seeing this game on your list piqued my curiosity.

I love the game but do not own it. Wish I had a better reason to offer than the ones above.

I'm a bit lazy to do likewise, but I will offer this: IF I actually am deemed 'worthy', I will donate two of my games to my local gaming group, EPGS. (Admittedly, not much of a stretch, but better than a simple 'thanks'.)

September 21st is my birthday. I'll be 32 years old. I don't have any kids, God gave me nephews instead. I have five of them, and they all live nearby. Three of them are old enough to play games with me, which makes up about half of the people I game with.

I introduced them to HeroQuest a couple of years ago and they loved it. We played through the quest book, and two of them took to writing their own adventures so they could GM for us. They're ready to move on to something with more depth, so Descent would be great.

I'm happy to cover some or all of the shipping.

That is a really generous offer. I have no desperate need for a game, but then I spotted this and thought that it would actually be good for my fiancée.

You see, I've been eying up the LotR LCG for over a year. The other week I caved and finally bought it. My wife-to-be, on the other hand, got confused when I mentioned I was getting a Lord of the Rings game that was co-op. She thought I meant this one (she actually said "the one where you give the ring to Sam", but I knew what she meant! She really enjoyed playing a friend's copy, previously.)

So, if you deem my entry worthy, I would like to give my precious a precious.

Hey no one has added this yet. This is a game I have always thought sounded interesting. I am looking for games with cool themes and high player counts to take on a 8 month military deployment with me. This might just be the kind of game I need to hook some casual gamers. Thanks for the contest, great idea.

Ok, so why do I want this? I'm a dice hound. I love dice games. The more unique the dice, the better. I had to buy a copy of Powerboats because the D3's are pretty and awesomely shaped. I bought Airships because I loved the three-tiered dice system. I backed Dungeon Roll, which has a ton of pretties. When I go to GenCon and Origins, one of my stops is always to the Chessex booth to buy two D6 (with pips, of course) of their newest colors. I really like dice. I like unique dice even more.

Which brings me to Quarriors. I really want to play this and I have for a while. I only do one major game purchase each year from CSI and a patch of single buys from the FLGS, but every time I have tried to pick this up during my buying cycle, it's sold out. My FLGS doesn't even carry it anymore (but they have the expansions handy most of the time...)

So, Quarriors has everything I like about dice in a shiny tin box. And if you're willing to part with it and choose me, I promise to take good care of the dice and promise to only dump them in a pile and swim in them like Scrooge McDuck once. Maybe twice. Alright... Every other Tuesday, but that's it.

You have an excellent collection with several I'd like in my own.

I would really like Lord of the Rings. I've been reading about it for awhile, but haven't had a chance to pick it up. My wife and I are huge Tolkien and Co-Op fans. I really think this would be a hit for us.

It would be great to get a copy, but thank you anyway even if we don't. It is generous of you.

P.S. I love your avatar. We were very sorry to see the show go again recently.
