Cardiff Games Day (October 2013) - No Ship Math Trade
- Matt Clementson(baldrick)Canada
Welcome to the math trade for Cardiff Games Day October 2013 - New Cardiff Games Day! Saturday 19th April 2014Recommend
What is a math trade?
Math trades are a way of arranging trades so that everyone gets a game that they want when direct trades aren't possible. For example, person A has a copy of Dominion they don't want, person B really wants Dominion but they have nothing for trade that A wants - there is no direct trade possible. However, A really wants a copy of Axis & Allies, person C has Axis & Allies for trade but really wants that copy of Dune that B has for trade - now a trade is possible;
A gives Dominion to B and gets Axis & Allies from C
B gives Dune to C and gets Dominion from A
C gives Axis & Allies to A and gets Dune from B
Now multiply the number of participants up and you have a math trade.
The other important thing to remember with a math trade is - if you list a game you do NOT have to trade it - I'll explain how a bit further down - so it's a completely no risk experience.
There are more details about math trades in general on the Math Trade wiki page.
What does 'No ship' mean?
This means that no shipping (postage) is involved in this trade. The games are traded in person at the Cardiff Games Day. If you're not planning on attending then please do not participate in this math trade.
To avoid some confusion that happened last time over my use of the words 'wants' I'm going to state here what I mean by that so that there will be no confusion this time.
Wants: 'Wants' are the items that you are prepared to accept for an item that you have listed for trade. These are submitted to the OWLG (see below) and form your half of the trade. By definition they must come from this list of games for trade.
Wishes: I will use the word 'wishes' or 'wishlist' for items that you wish others to list in the trade. This time I an providing a separate geeklist for posting such items - Cardiff Games Day (October 2013) - No Ship Math Trade - Wishlist
PLEASE READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE SUBMITTING ANY ITEMS
List opens: Friday, 11th April 2014
List closes: Tuesday, 15th April 2014 at 23:00 GMT
Deadline for submitting want lists: Thursday, 17th April 2014 at 23:00 GMT
Number of items per user: Unlimited
Sweetners allowed: Yes
Duplicates allowed: Yes
For each item please list the condition the game is in, what edition it is if there could be confusion about this and any other details that might be pertinent (such as language if it's not in English).
If you change your mind about the game you are trading please DO NOT REMOVE IT FROM THE TRADE. Edit the entry to say that you are no longer trading the game, but keep the item in place as deleted items can cause a lot of complications when running the trade.
Sweetners are bonus items that you will trade with the main game, usually something like an expansion but it could be an entirely separate game as well. You do this to make your main game more attractive to other traders.
Sweeteners are required to be listed using the GAMEID formatting (Example: Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game; to do this: [ G A M E I D = XXXX ] minus the spaces). To find the Game ID simply search the game and at the right hand side of the games page is listed the Game ID. For example, Battlestar Galactica's game id is 37111. If you don't use this format your sweeteners won't show up in the OLWLG properly.
Do NOT include links to other game's BGG page in your entry unless you are actually including them as a sweetener. Again, if you include a link to a game in your description you will be required to ship that game.
Adding "Pick X number of games" Items
If you are offering a Pick X number of games from a list you are required to listed it as Outside the Scope of BGG (Game ID: 23953), Miscellaneous Game Accessory (Game ID: 5985) or Miscellaneous Game Merchandise (Game ID: 22104) and must include the +altname+ Pick X -altname- in the description. Use of the +altname+ brief description -altname- will only work if one of these is selected as the main item, and will not work for sweeteners. Therefore if you are allowing a person to pick from multiple sweeteners and are including a specific game; you are required to listed it as Outside the Scope of BGG (Game ID: 23953), Miscellaneous Game Accessory (Game ID: 5985) or Miscellaneous Game Merchandise (Game ID: 22104) and must include the +altname+ GAME NAME + Pick X -altname-.
Money, vouchers or GeekGold
It is permissible to list money, vouchers GeekGold for trade. You are required to list such items asOutside the Scope of BGG (Game ID: 23953), Miscellaneous Game Accessory (Game ID: 5985) or Miscellaneous Game Merchandise (Game ID: 22104) and must include +altname+ Description -altname- in the description of the item.
One other important thing about listing money, vouchers or GeekGold - money and Geekgold arbitrage are strictly prohibited. (In other words, trying to trade your £20 for someone else's £30 is prohibited. If such a trade shows up I'll remove all that user's wants from the trade and re-run the trade.
Submitting want lists
Want lists MUST be submitted via the On-line Want List Generator (OLWLG), which you can find here: http://bgg.activityclub.org/olwlg/
If you haven't already done so, register your BGG ID on the Online Want List Generator by clicking on this link here: http://bgg.activityclub.org/olwlg/
Enter your BGG username and you will then be sent a Geekmail with a direct link to a personalised version of OLWLG.
For any item that you wish to add to any of your want lists click on the "Add" button. A pop-up appears with all the games you are offering, simply tick the entries you would trade for that item.
Please remember that when you add an item to a Want List you are agreeing that you are prepared to accept a trade for that item. You may be just as likely to receive the items on your Want Lists that you 'least' want as those you 'most' want so do not add an item if receiving it may leave you disappointed! Submitting a Want List is your agreement to trade for any item on that list.
When you have gone through the list click on the link at the very bottom "edit your wants" which will take you to a summary where you can make changes and rank items in order of preference (remember to save any changes).
If you've listed a game and you decide that you don't want to trade that game then simply submit an empty want list for that particular item. In effect you are saying there is nothing in this trade that I would accept for my game. Your game cannot then show up in the trades.
Please remember to hit the 'submit' button after you have finished creating your want lists.
If you want to find out more about the OLWLG here's the wiki page: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/OLWLG
The best guide I've found on how to use OLWLG is here - How to use the OLWLG
And this list about duplicate protection - Jeffy Jeff's OLWLG: Duplicate Protection For Dummies
I will update the OLWLG page at least once a day, and more often if I can.
I will be using TradeMaximiser to run the results. You can find the details here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/TradeMaximizer.
If you have any questions about any of this then please Geekmail me and I'll do my best to clarify anything.
