I am making this geeklist to get some more suggestions for games to play with my four year old using the couple of examples I already have as references. While yes, there are a ton of board games out there that are fun for kids, but when it comes to joining them for a session of their favorite board game you are usually going out of your mind with the insane color pallet and lack of complexity. I think Walt Disney had it right to blend stuff both adults and kids love into one place in order to make everyone happy.

Personally I have found that co-op's are the best when it comes to having my kid join me. The best part is that she plays a big part in making the decisions but won't necessarily get stuck because I am there to help. Plus, who wants to beat their four year old at a board game which could contribute them not liking the hobby? Not this guy.

This one takes the cake so far when it comes to still enjoying playing board games when a four year old is involved. All I do is take out the dice tower and let her roll her way to stopping the Ancient One from awakening.

Without her I have won only about 40% of the games I have played; with her we have won about 75%. She digs the horror theme and is a Cthulhu nut just like her dad so this is definitely a win/win for both of us.

Of course this one made the list. Most of the time when we sit down as a family to play this it usually is just a game of who can convince our daughter to take out the other parent. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but when kids roll dice they just make us grown ups look like there is a black cloud over our heads while they are basically Jedi.

The whole family is a big fan of this game mostly because it is easy to play and understand while still being competitive at the same time.

Yeah I know she may be a bit young for the images in the game but she is tougher than most kids out there. Plus she chuckles every time she sees the guy who cannot see where he is going (the Headless Horseman).

I actually let her make many of the decisions of her character's fate on her own which works out quite well most of the time.

Whatever, I in fact dig this game. Sad though when you have four adults who have been drinking playing this while the kids are all asleep.

The ZOMBIE GAME! At least that is what it is called in my house. This was actually one of the first games I used to have her relate numbers on the dice to movement (roll to move came in quite handy right here). Since the game can be a bit long and she cannot fully read and understand the cards this one doesn't get played exactly the way it is supposed to be. That being said, we have our own version which mainly consists of her running around the board and shooting zombies without any care of searching or winning conditions. Still a ton of fun though.

She is not the biggest fan of this just because there is quite a bit of planning and not much dice rolling, but her attention span can still hold up for about 30 minutes into it.

and of course...

the extensions for that game.
Since Carabande is out of print watch out for Pitch Car. Unfortunately since the connectors of both games are different you cannot use both materials together.

There is a AUDI-themed version around being a true collector's item, I guess:

Rules can be adapted according to skills of players. Range is from strategically hard fighting and tough to easy-peasy. It is basically a connection game like traditional classics Twixt or Hex or other Connection Games. Lovely designed cards not too abstract for children. So being less abstract designed and more aesthetical hand drawn.

Clear recommendation and possibly quite unknown.

This game has been designed by my daughter when she was 8. She likes the die throwing and the decision making and above all, the fact that all together will try to win !
