I did not think anything would ever catch Dominion in my Total Plays. And Dominion remains my favorite game. But my boys like Race for the Galaxy more. It got six plays more this past week, in its Race for Dominion, and thus earns the Game-of-the-Week status. But it still has not, yet, caught Dominion...
I had a great week of gaming, mainly due to a good weekend - we had the usual Friday night gaming session, then Saturday was the annual Cambridge Games Day (now called BabeCon), and then Sunday a friend attending that stayed over for more games - she's from my ice hockey team, but really enjoys the lighter games and party games.
With other adults:
3 x Race for the Galaxy 2 x Dominion 2 x Love Letter 2 x The Resistance
1 x Ave Caesar, Beowulf, Bohnanza, Burn Rate, Carcassonne, Core Worlds (with expansion - won't play it without now!), McMulti, Escape: The Curse of the Temple, Factory Fun, Flash Point: Fire Rescue, Fleet, El Grande, High Society, Knowing Me Knowing You, Perudo, Lords of Waterdeep, Geschenkt, Palaces of Carrara, Power Grid (UK map), Qwixx, Augustus, Schrille Stille, Settlers of Catan, Showmanager, Kai Piranja, Take Two, Through the Ages, Time's Up, TransEuropa, Vegas Showdown, World Cup Tournament Football
With my preschooler:
2 x Shopping List 1 x Lego Create It, Motorway
With my children joining in when my friend was over:
Game Qty Escape: The Curse of the Temple 3 Qwixx 3 Timeline: Diversity 3 The Downfall of Pompeii 2 Carcassonne 1
Last weekend was sheep herding time at my parents farm. So me and two of my brothers and our families met there and had some time to play games Saturday evening. It was fun to play Escape again after a while, although it turned out we consistently beat the game, even with curses / treasures.
29 plays for me last week (Monday to Sunday). Some were exciting...
5 x Playmobil Soccer Match 4 x Sleeping Queens 3 x Love Letter 3 x Topfrosch 2 x 90 Grad 2 x Fluxx 2 x Funny Bunny 2 x Pari 2 x Stake Your Claim 2 x Unpublished Prototype 1 x Eselsbrücke 1 x Fuzzi, Heinz und Schlendrian
I won Playmobil Soccer Match in a Sweepstake, and it is better than expected.
Topfrosch is our new game that we just released. Here's a short (under 2 minute) video of how it works:
It's not the final version yet, but you get the idea... Silly and fun.
As predicted, this wasn’t a week for gaming. School is now in full session, but it turns out what really stopped the games was getting ready for my birthday party! With everyone’s crazy summer schedules, this weekend was the first date when all the friends I wanted to have over were in town. Unfortunately, the weather report predicted rain, so we had to clean both inside the house and the yard, just in case — and there were some big projects inside... (Of course, it didn’t rain, so we were able to be outside after all. But now the house looks great!)
[Aaargh. I'm still trying to find a picture of the amazing Italian Sunday lunch that my sweetie made for me - I'll put it here to make you drool when I can locate it...]
The one “real” game I was able to play this week was after the party, a rare play of Ticket to Ride: Märklin. I had hoped to play Resistance with the adults, as I’ve yet to try it, but it took most of the party for the kids to get comfortable with each other and go off on their own, so that didn’t work.
I played Pandemic: In the Lab with Andrea last Saturday. It's pretty tough--we lost on the beginner level (4 epidemics). It loses some of the elegance of the base game with all the extra actions but it will be an interesting challenge.
3 matches of Magic today at the prerelease for the new set (Theros). This is my favorite way to play. I went 3-1 (counting the free win for a bye) and so did Ben so we had a good day.
I didn't report this a couple of weeks ago but I managed to get in a Pathfinder RPG session with the boys and one of their friends. We played the "We Be Goblins" scenario (well, half of it anyway) which is a really fun one for kids. There are a bunch of challenges at the start like "Dance with Squealy Nord" (ride a pig) and "Eat a Bag of Slugs Real Quick" that are pretty amusing and fun. This adventure is available as a free download from paizo.com. (The core rules for Pathfinder are all available online as well under the Open Gaming License.)
