Welcome to Angel Arena! Where the top minds of both runners and corporations battle it out on the lunar surface to see who can become the next:

Iron Android

The Rules
The Challenge will run over 8 weeks and is open to everyone. Each week the contestants will be given an Android:Netrunner card to build a deck around. They will be graded by the community by giving thumbs, and will be judged on the following criteria:

1) Use of the Challenge Card. The challenge card should play a major role in the deck. Ideally, the deck should fail without it.

2) Originality.

3) Description of the Deck. You can post just your deck. But individuals who go the extra mile with the theory behind their card choices are clearly the superior Iron Android.

4) Effectiveness. Can the deck win? How do we know that? Play testing is not a requirement. It's just likely to improve your vote count.

To Enter:
Anyone can enter by posting their deck to the weekly geeklists as a Geek List Item below. Posts in the comments section are still valid, just likely to get lost. If anyone wishes help with posting a new item, let me know.

The winner will be determined by the number of thumbs received by the following Sunday at a mystical time known only as 'when Pete gets his but out of bed and logs on to check the results.' The results will be written in the comments section to record them for the final standings. The next weeks challenge will appear at roughly the same time.

Anyone can vote by thumbing any/all entries they deem worthy of being an Iron Android.

The weekly winner will receive 10 .

The discussion/announcement thread for the entire challenge is here.

Each week the theme will come from one of the factions or neutrals. This makes 1 week for each of the 7 factions and one neutral card.

After the 8 weeks, the votes for each contestant from ALL weeks will be tallied (but only those votes recorded at the end of the week, later votes will not count). Only one submission per week will be counted per person (so if you put two decks in, whichever gets the most votes will be counted to your total). The winner of the final will receive 20 and be forever known as the:

Iron Android

As you see, this Deck only runs 10 ICE, this is because we have Levi to search the Ice!

The Plan is to put a DataRaven infront of the R&D, better both Ravens or Shadow and Raven.

Then we will rezz the Response Team in a remote server, everytime they run R&D they get 2 Meat Damage.

We also have Snares to have some potential to kill the Runner if he does not respect our Response Teams enough.

How will we build a Remote with only 10 Ice?
Levi!
We will search for a Hadrians wall or Archer and rezz them with Oversigth to get a strong expansive to run remote without needing much credits for it.

I would suggest to Mulligan every Hand without Levi. If you have Levi, drop it, use it 2 times to search for 1x Raven and 1x Archer/Hadrians.

Caduceus and ICE Wall is only there to protect the HQ and make our remote server save from inside jobs.

False Lead is essential, you can take the Runners clicks to prevent them from removing Raven or Snare! tags, making you able to kil lthem with even one SE.

If all this fails, and the Runner is very carefull, we still have our Bountys to kill them. As he can´t prevent the damage from R&D Runs if the Raven is there, Plascrete should not be to much of a problem.

Action Jackson is also important for this Deck, not as important as Levi, but he can bring back broken OA Archers and used up Snares. Convinently you can search the Archer again with Levi!

If you tend to play against Atman a lot, you could exchange a caduceus for a chimera or draco to have some str. 0 ice. But with Ice Wall, Shadow and Hadrians you will be able to adjust your strength to ruin Atmans day.

With 8 Eco Operations and Government Contracts, money should not be to much of a Problem for this Deck!

Your identity nets you a credit when you install a card each turn.
The meat is the really big and potentially really big ice (Janus 1.0 and Draco.) Early on they are WAY to expensive to rez however you can ditch them early in the game and then use the Jackson Howard or the University to fish for them later when you have cash or combo to use them.

The Priority Requisition let you rez a piece of ice for free when it is scored. The target of that of course is Janus 1.0. (and maybe a lucky hit on accelerated beta test)

The remainder are more geared around getting plenty of cash to drop draco in and keep the runner poorer for their work (tollbooth and closed accounts).

Overall it feels a little light on ice especially since there are some really big chunky ones in there making early game especially dangerous. Then again the university lets you dig for what you are looking for. I am sure you can see other flaws as well but I like the concept of really big nasty ice for free.

Edit: will try and edit this later with appropriate card links to the DB site. Done!

Edit. Gave it a couple of plays. Getting the university out early is really important (maybe too important) to getting things running. There were plenty of assets to increase money generation so getting resources worked out well.

With the university out early you can fish for the smaller pieces of ice and really lock down HQ and R&D as well as 2 places to install and advance other assets/agendas. Toll booth really excels at keeping the runner poor as it makes them pay every time they want to make a run especially on HQ and R&D.

But dropping in Janus or a massive Draco really feels good.

Getting the runner tagged to take advantage of Closed accounts proved difficult to do. The Ash 2xBlah feels misplaced since it requires a successful run on the server to place the tags. If you drop in a university early enough things can get locked down pretty aggressively making it kind of moot.

The negative comes when you get the bigger ice and agendas early and cant dig for the ice you need to fortify your places. things get messy. Thankfully there are only 9 agenda cards of the 48 total so it certainly helps reduce the chances of the runner getting a hit from HQ or R&D.

Certainly not going to win any tournaments anytime soon but when things go right, things get locked down and stay locked down.

When things go wrong well...

ICE (5)

2 Whirlpool

With 21 ice, this seems like something that could run without Levy, but it finds that it needs to find its ice in a fairly specific order. A variation on the Jinteki Crit deck that includes Howler to "Surprise" the opponent with a Suite of 3 Bioroids that can be found via the university. Sunset and Midori are included to rearrange Ice when things don't quite go as planned. With a varying ice strength from 0-8, Atman's going to be at the very least inefficient requiring the use of a number of data counters. Ideally a Whirlpool into a Janus or Howlered Janus will hurt the runner to the point where it becomes difficult to run on anything, requiring multiple card draws to get into a 2 advanced agenda, with the threat of Junebug looming over your opponents.

I came up with a Jinteki - RP deck before I saw Edwin's entry, but my idea ended up a bit differently. I ended up changing some things from my original deck based on what I saw in his entry (I originally was using a heavily advanced Woodcutter instead of Janus), but it's still different enough that I think it has its own flavor. It's untested for now, but I'll see if I can give it a shot this week (despite not having Opening Moves yet).

ICE (3)
3 Whirlpool

Built with http://netrunner.meteor.com/

Strategy - Since you have Levy, combos requiring ice in certain ice orders become a lot easier. Make a super server with Janus at the end, or have some cell portal shenanigans, and put a whirlpool in front of it. Throw things like Edge of World or agendas behind it, depending on the situation. Either get the runner to run it normally or for even more fun, just shove a whirlpool in front of a bullfrog somewhere else!

Card choices:

Jinteki - RP - since the runner has to run a central before running a remote, this makes remotes much harder to hit. This makes it easier to guard Levy, and any agendas you put behind beefy remotes.

Fetal AI - standard Jinteki addition
Nisei - mostly standard Jinteki addition, has bonus of ending Levy runs
Pri Req - res Janus when scored

Edge of World - combos nicely with Whirlpool on a big server
Jackson - because he's awesome, and works great with Levy, since you can find ice you shuffle back into R&D (whirlpools, trashed Oversighted Janus, etc)
Levy - the card we're building around
Melange - Hard to get at because of RP
Snare - Jinteki staple, also a great Whirlpool ending. Only 2 because of deck space and Jackson can recur them

Ash - Helps protect that Levy or your agendas in case the runner does get in
Midori - you can use it to replace a piece of ice you put out right after a Levy with a piece of ice you drew normally to mess with the runner's head more

Celebrity Gift - because Jinteki needs money. Also you can use it to reveal ice you've already found with Levy since the runner knows about them. Or if you already put it down and drew into a second copy, even better!
Hedge Fund - because money.
Oversight AI - Good for rezzing that Janus if the Pri Reqs don't work out.
Sunset - In case you get hit by an Escher or something, or the ordering just wasn't right at the time, or your Janus gets trashed.

Himitsu-Bako - Chosen over Static and Bastion to balance out the ice strength for Atman. Also because it's cheap and can go back into the hand easily.

Bullfrog - Place this after a whirlpool. Use it to lead the runner into your super remote.
Cell portal - because whirlpool into cell portal is hilarious. Put a chum in the middle, or janus, and preferably some shadows, and have a good time!
Chum - Adjusts ice strength, and you can place it in front of all sorts of fun things after it!
Sensei - Make every piece after it just a bit harder to break. Another good positional ice we can find when we need it.

Janus - Since you're going to be cheating this out with Oversight or Pri Req, you're probably going to have to get a whirlpool in front of it somehow, whether by bullfrog or normally. Use it for whatever, either as the agenda remote or some Edge of World fun.
Neural Katana - Jinteki staple
Shadow - Good economy ice, and adjustable strength to boot

Whirlpool - try not to let the runner see it, otherwise they'll have an Atman or Crypsis breaking it really fast. If you can get the runner to run into it, whether naturally or through Midori or something, go nuts!

I'll give it a shot. My first attempt was a Jinteki combo tower with Janus like the above posters, but then I saw their decks and started to think what else would like an ice tutor. I think it's valuable in a NBN rush TWIY deck.

NBN The World Is Yours

Ice:
Ice Wall 3x ***
Caduceus 3x ******
Popup Window 3x
Enigma 3x

Assets & Operations:
Mid Season Replacements 1x
San San City Grid 3x
Jackson Howard 2x
Psychographics 1x
Green Level Clearance 3x ***
Hedge Fund 3x
Marked Accounts 3x
Levy Univeristy 3x

Agendas:
Gila Hands Arcology 3x
Breaking News 3x
Project Beale 3x
Astroscript Pilot Program 3x

44 Cards, 12 Influence

The idea is to score as fast as possible. Take the midseason/psycho if you can, but score anything out of hand as fast as possible so you can win before the runner get's set up. I have a good distribution of ETR ice, but it is all low strength and won't keep a runner out of R&D (or my san san remote) after they get setup.

Why does this deck need Levy? Small deck size and low ice count can be a problem if you don't see your ice early. I need cheap ice that have a varied type and strength to force the runner to rig build. I need that ice distribution early thus the need for Levy. Almost all the ice ends the run (pop up being an exception), and 6 of them generate money. The idea is get levy out and tutor out one of each type of ETR ice. Put one of each on my remote server (to protect San San) and R&D (with a priority on R&D). If R&D lock becomes a problem hopefully I can throw away a Jackson to reshuffle R&D and give me back some burst econ cards.

It's a win early or go home deck and Levy helps it speed up the corp's setup. It's my first attempt. The idea can probably be refined.

Add: Looking at it I'm wonder if shrinking the Psycho/Midseason count to one or even zero for some drip econ assets would be a good play. A couple Pad Campaigns would be nice to supplement Ice Wall advancement to build a bigger strength distribution. Gotta play it a bit to see how it's working.

Add2: Fixed deck to fit correct influence count.

Levy University? Yeah, I'll give it a shot.

So what can Levy do for us? Search for ICE. While that IS good it also takes time, money and we have to reveal our ICE to the runner. The deck below runs one of each of the following:

Archer
Chum
Flare
Tollbooth
Whirlpool

All of these ICE are scary in their own way (well, chum isn't scary but you know what I mean) and the main idea is to search for one or two of these pieces of ICE, reveal it to the runner, and then install it. So you know I have an archer somewhere but where? My big remote? R&D? Oh, now you know there is a Whirlpool out also. It is almost certainly on the remote and if it is you'll need to make sure you have the right tools to break through it all...

So you slow them down with lots of big ICE and set up an economic engine with HB:ETF's ability and a few Eve Campaigns, Melanges, and Hedge Funds.

Let's go over the whole card list shall we?

HB Engineering the Future: This is pretty obvious. Best ID ever.

Accelerated Beta Test: There are a few pieces of big ICE here and it doesn't hurt getting them out for free. Jackson is here to help get valuable non-ICE cards back.

Director Haas' Pet Project: Good agenda that helps get a few pieces of ICE back? Sure I'll use it thank you very much.

Gila Hands Arcology: Good 3-1 agenda.

Priority Requisition: Good 5-3 agenda that helps with those Heimdalls.

Project Vitruvius: Most of the time this is a blank 3-2 agenda.

Jackson Howard: Need I say any more?

Eve Campaign: Some people prefer Adonis to Eve but Melange is sitting in the big remote and the trash cost of 5 lets her stay in the open unprotected for a while.

Levy University: I have to use this card...

Melange Mining Corp. Money money money...

Archer: It is big and scary. Also helps against the Atman craze going around.

Chum: Why not?

Flare: Also scary and trashing a R&D interface early game is pretty good. Cost of 9 shouldn't be too big of a deal.

Tollbooth: Good against Atman. Put it on R&D where it will get run the most.

Whirlpool: The real reason I put this in the deck is for psychological damage. Reveal it with Levy then build your remote. Each time you add a piece of ICE it gets scarier. Hold it in your hand for a few turns and wait for the perfect ICE combo (doable with Levy) to spring it on a runner.

Eli 1.0: Solid piece of ICE.

Enigma: I'm starting to like this little fellow.

Heimdall 2.0: Let him sit in your hand (Howler) or on a Awakening Center for an instant piece of ICE wherever you need it.

Howler: Used for Ichi 2.0 and Heimdall 2.0.

Ichi 2.0: Looks bad on paper but I'm likin the 5 strength and 3 subs.

Shadow: Good in any deck.

Biotic Labor: Fast-advance a Project V or ABT.

Hedge Fund: Good in all decks.

Awakening Center: I for one really like SMC for the ability to find any icebreaker you need and this is as close as the corps get. Ichi and Heimdall 2.0 a great on it.

Corporate Troubleshooter: Finally! The last card in the deck is here for the ability to kill Atman (Archer or Ichi 2.0) and also to keep runners out for a few more turns while you score that last agenda.

So there you have it. My Levy deck. This probably took to long to read so if you made it all this way down here pat yourself on the back!

As a side note the only card I want in here is Snare! but I don't have enough influence left...

EDIT: Edited for clarity

Mine's another Replicating Perfection deck – of which we already have a couple. It's based off a deck I have been trying to get to work, but could never get going fast enough – I'm wondering if Levy University might be the missing piece of the puzzle.

The strategy is fairly simple:

- Using Levy or old fashioned card draws, get the Ichis or Hourglasses set up as the outmost pieces of ICE on Archives, R&D and HQ as quickly as possible, so that the runner can't run the remotes without paying heavily each time.

- Use Akitaro in combination with Chimera (fished out with Levy) - plus a piece of ICE outside it to stop Inside Jobs - to protect your main remote in the early game, before the runner has all his breakers out.

- Lay out plenty of unadvanced, undefended remotes; either the runner runs them and risks the snares, or they ignore them and find out the hard way that you've laid out two or three Encryption Protocols, by which time it's financially painful to deal with them.

- Archer is in there as a possible surprise rez to cripple the runner's rig; Levy should never be used to draw it.

Some other notes:
- The addition of Encryption Protocol is an attempt to mitigate the biggest drawbacks of of Levy University: the fact that it's expensive to rez and cheap for the runner to trash.

- On the other hand, unprotected remote spamming, combined with the hassle of running against Replicating Perfection, should help get Levy University into position so that it can be used 2-3 times to get the ICE you need, after which it becomes much less important to protect it from the runner. (I suspect this may be the best way to play Levy – not to protect it, but to use it to get the vital ICE and then let it die.)

Anyway, I'm still not sure the deck will set up fast enough, but I'm keen to try it out!

This is, of course, completely untested, but I think it would be fun to play. It has a very nice strength spread to counter Atman, and without Levy, it's completely unreliable.

ICE (1)
1 Chimera

Built with http://netrunner.meteor.com/

The main strategy is to observe the runner, and dig for whatever ICE will be hardest for them to break. It's not going to be very competitive, but it's at least a good use for Custom Biotics.

This deck uses Levy University to help build a well crafted defense of ice. The Custom Biotics ID is used to give a little more influence to get some heavy hitting ice into play. The ice is scattered in strength to help give Atman some troubles and has a few ice that trashes programs to help even more if setup right.

In play I found that setting up much like a Jinteki Replication Perfection Deck is best. Build troublesome layers of ice on your centrals and play both the many assets bare on the remotes. There are a fair number of traps that need advancement. This compliments the high scoring agendas in the deck. This way an install and double advance can be used and give the runner something to think about it. Into the game you can even give them something else to think about if you bluff an advanced agenda in a server that they can obviously get to.

Agendas - As mentioned before this has all high level agendas. Priority Requisition can be used to also rez some of the high level ice. The high concentration also helps protect R&D slightly.

Assets - Melange and Private Contracts are money makers. Aggressive Secretary and Cerebral Overwriter are traps. Jackson Howard can be used to recyle traps, income or agendas. Dedicated Response team is a potential unexpected tag punishment. And obviously Levy University is used to tutor specific ice you want.

ICE - The ice is purposely varied and scattered of varying strengths. Only 2 of each to give more variety to find and to help the runner not expect something. One ice can easily be tutored and swapped with another ice that was already in HQ to add more mind games for the runner. Much of the ice looks to be heavily taxing on the runner with brain damage, trashing, or credits.

Operations - Shipment from Mirrormorph is designed to help the multiple installs in your remotes. Hedge Fund just adds the much needed income.

Overall this will never be a tournament winner, but it is a fun deck that lets you study up at the University (if it can survive the required research in R&D) and get some experience with some heavy hitting ICE.
